Adventures of Hercules - 5. The oracle
Hercules thought he must have been down in that cursed spider-infested labyrinth for what felt like days, yet the world outside seemed to have changed little in his absence. "The sorcerer must have made good use of that time," Hercules muttered to himself, his brow furrowing in frustration. That treacherous villain had eluded him once again. Steeling his resolve, the hero set off towards the temple of Zeus to offer thanks to his divine father for guiding him through his perilous ordeal. As he strode through the bustling streets, Hercules was completely oblivious to the awestruck stares and whispered murmurs of the mortals around him. His immense, muscular frame and rugged, chiseled features drew the admiring gazes of everyone he passed, but Hercules paid them no heed. His mind was laser-focused on tracking down the sorcerer and bringing an end to his wicked schemes.
Entering the temple, Hercules approached the mighty statue of Zeus, his footsteps echoing through the cavernous space. Sinking to one knee, he bowed his head in reverence. "Father, I offer my humble thanks for your divine guidance," Hercules intoned, his deep voice rumbling like distant thunder. "Though my quest to vanquish the sorcerer has been delayed, I shall not rest until he is brought to justice." Rising to his feet, Hercules turned and strode out of the temple, his determination renewed. The people parted before him, marveling at the hero's sheer presence and power. But Hercules remained oblivious, his eyes scanning the horizon as he plotted his next move against the elusive sorcerer.
Determined to finally put an end to the elusive sorcerer's schemes, an idea struck Hercules' mind - he should seek the guidance of the Oracle of Delphi. Without delay, the hero set out on the long journey to the sacred temple. Days passed as Hercules trekked across the rugged terrain, his powerful legs carrying him with unwavering purpose. At last, he arrived at the gates of Delphi, the imposing structure looming before him. Hercules strode through the hallowed halls, his very presence commanding the attention of all who bore witness. Finally, he stood before the revered priestess, her penetrating gaze meeting his unwavering stare. "I have been expecting you, Hercules, son of the gods," the oracle intoned, her voice rich and resonant. "You seek guidance in your quest to vanquish the sorcerer who has eluded you."
Hercules nodded solemnly. "Yes, priestess. That villain has proven most elusive, and I fear he grows ever more powerful with each passing day. I come to you now, in my father's temple, to beseech your wisdom."
The oracle's expression darkened, a look of grave concern passing across her features. "The path before you is a perilous one, Hercules. The sorcerer's power is formidable, and he has aligned himself with dark forces that even the gods struggle to contain." She paused, her eyes piercing into Hercules' very soul. "He has delved deep into the forbidden arts, conjuring abominations beyond mortal reckoning to use against you. You must take the utmost care in your pursuit, for the sorcerer's wrath knows no bounds." Hercules felt a chill run down his spine, but his determination remained unshaken. "Tell me what I must do, priestess. I will not rest until this evil is vanquished." The oracle nodded solemnly. "The sorcerer's lair lies deep within a cursed land where horrid creatures dwell. To reach him, you must brave the treacherous paths and face your own greatest fears." She raised a gnarled hand, her eyes gleaming with an otherworldly light. "Go now, Hercules, son of Zeus. Fulfill your destiny and bring an end to the sorcerer's reign of terror. But be vigilant, for the darkness you will face is unlike any you have ever known."
With a renewed sense of purpose, Hercules turned and strode out of the temple, his mind racing as he plotted his journey into the cursed land, determined to confront the sorcerer's abominable creations and emerge victorious.
