Breakfast Social - 1. Breakfast Social

I am not a lover of Jams:
too sweet a pressure on
delicate toast.
Rip their way along the
Bread.
(soft bread;
toast unfinished)
Rough, callous hands pull down the spread.

greedy,
hungry hands.
They must have their meal.

The knife, now whetted,
pulls loose.
It drips a heavy crimson
(age old favorite).

They sit, name-place set
and they unhinge,
roughly shove in,
devour their meal

(crimson remains running down smiling faces).

Their bread gone -
all gone -
they leave the table.
The table is cleared,
name-place switched
and set.
Lunch is served.

The hunger never stops.
