  1. The boys had grown over time. They aren't helpless any more. People are scared, but they still had friends on their side!
  2. Thanks Foster!
  3. Thanks! It's really nice to hear feedback from readers. Sorry for the long wait for the next chapter.
  4. A good guess. But the hint lies in the earlier chapters. Read on!

  6. Thanks so much for the comment! The new chapter is up and I hope you like it
  7. Day 465 First snow came early this year, unless we have counted our days wrongly. Few people bothered to track the dates anymore, only the seasons mattered. For us, it mattered because our winter store would be a few weeks short of crops. But as far as the rest of the settlement is concerned, it only meant tighter winter rationing. It wasn’t too big a problem since no one had hunted or fished much over the last few months. We could easily supplement our food supplies if we get our asses frozen
  8. It's not happily ever after yet, hang on for the ride!
  9. Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence. Glad you stayed on the wagon. Have a great year ahead
  10. Coming soon, happy new year!

  12. Day 440 The leaves were shedding non-stop for the past few weeks. Mark pretty much gave up clearing them from the garden but we had only a few more weeks to grow crops for winter. It’s almost too cold to grow anything, but everyone said it’s going to be a long one this year. I always enjoyed growing stuff. Mom and I used to do that together. But now we need all that fruits, vegetables, meats and milks not just for food but practically for everything – fruit oils to make candles and toothpaste,

    Chimeras

I love reading your reviews cos you really gets the insights and cues that are embedded in the story. So sorry for the long wait. But just to set some insight, Dan's relationship with Mark is an unusual one because of their differences (age, personality, sexual preferences), but circumstances nourished the bond they had. The key theme I wanted to explore in this story is the nature of relationships - how it changes to the time, and how the nature of relationship itself changes. Hope this give you some context to interpret the plot developments!

Thanks for the comments and sorry for the late reply. I've been taking up writing courses for the past few months and yeah... learnt lots of new stuff about writing. Hopefully it gets better. As for the jarring transition - the story was meant to be a trilogy, so I'm kind of into the second book now. The themes and focus will be slightly different from the first. Hope you enjoy it!

Glad to see you again Gary! Thanks for reading:)
  19. Grace climbed into the storeroom and examined the bones. Someone must have extracted the bone marrows from it. That’s how some people survived on corpses when their food runs out. To our dismay, we found that the storeroom was connected to the depot warehouse where our ammunitions were stored. “Were these people butchered?” I asked. “Not likely. There’re still rotting flesh clinging on to the bones.” Grace said they are more like vultures than hyenas. They feed on corpses instead of fresh mea

Dan knows he has to take out the bitten ones. But he felt guilty because they were people that Grey was close to. He also wondered if they could be amputated and saved. He would have reacted differently if Tristan was the one who's bitten.
  22. The night is dense with fog. I can’t see what’s ahead of me. The putrid stench of bodies protected them. The infected can’t pick up their scent. Neither can I. Grace helps the old Nun down the mountain road, climbing over rocks and stepping on corpses. This feels so wrong. I am supposed to protect Sister Latoya from the infected. And Grace is here to protect her from me. For the briefest moments, I had dreamt of a life living with my brother. All I can see now is the image of him unconscious a
