I had only seen a person turned once. Adam’s dad when he was bitten. But even then, I didn’t stay and see how the process is like. But it looked really painful from all that convulsions that he was having. But then, he could also be squirming because someone is feasting on his flesh. Mark is convulsing throughout the night, on and off. When he asked me to take away the pain, I had no idea what he meant until it hits me. The pain is indescribable. Thanks for the comments!You raised some really interesting and valid point. Some of your questions are answered in later chapters. And also you will find in subsequent chapters that the narrator isn't all knowing - meaning that what he sees and observes isn't necessary true. His POV and perspective does change over time, as he matures and comes out from his isolation. Hope this clarifies for now!

Things will become clearer as the story unfolds (I hope). Thanks for the reviews, now I know the bits that aren't so clear. The Colonel's part of a bigger plan (not necessarily a conspiracy). War is ugly, and there is never a good side to it. One of Dan's struggle is between doing what is right and doing what to survive. And the scariest part about war is that everything is grey (no pun intended).

Haha, thanks for that. You are right to point out that nothing can be taken at face value when it comes to war. There are more rumours and confusion than facts, unfortunately. They are in a canvas covered truck, sitting among boxes of supplies (sorry for being unclear!). The story follows Dan's POV so the narration goes where his attention flows. Felicia slides in and out of the shadows, both physically and emotionally. You are right that she had suffered greatly, but she will come out stronger and tougher.
