I sat alone at Micah's favorite diner, anxiously waiting for him to arrive. I'd managed to snag a corner booth, so at least we'd have some measure of privacy when we had the conversation I'd been rehearsing over and over in my head. Despite having agreed to meet at five, I was such a nervous wreck that I'd left work well before the appointed time. I slouched there, playing out what I planned to say while mutilating sugar packet after sugar packet. Although Novak's advice had set me off on a

Distraction reins supreme thus far. Of course, red herrings are also distractions. Just saying...

I stared at Chris while trying to decide what to say. She'd caught me off guard by demanding the whole story. After a few minutes of silence and internal debate, I made up my mind. If she was going to be my partner in this investigation — and I really hoped she would be since it seemed we worked well together — then she had a right to know the truth. All of it. Especially if I had another one of my "psychic friends" moments in front of her. She needed to be prepared. If she couldn't ha

Hmm...perhaps it isn't too much of a spoiler to confirm that there is, indeed, a link between Killian's two cases...
-
It's coming...just not in this book... LOL A red herring? In my books?
-
So would you say the key is...wait for it...key to the investigation?

Chris is a smart one... She doesn't miss much.

What had just happened? Had I somehow experienced Paul’s attack? Were my gifts manifesting again? The thought that I might have actually felt Paul dying — not just imagined it, but physically and viscerally felt it — made my stomach churn. But to what end? The police had already determined he’d been strangled. I didn’t need a front-row seat in some psychic horror show to confirm that. So what was the point? What was I supposed to learn from this...replay? Maybe nothing. Maybe

Many questions...but the answers will come in time.

It's early days just yet...there's plenty of time for guesses. And red herrings...
-
To be fair, my work on this is finished, aside from uploading the chapters. It's all on you guys now...

Just the first?? I must be slipping...

I froze where I was and slowly raised my hands. This was definitely not good. Getting caught was not part of my plan. Assuming I survived long enough, Chris and I were clearly going to have to work out a better way for her to warn me. As my eyes adjusted to the light, I began to get a better look at my assailant. To my surprise, they turned out to be a small, slender Asian woman with long, glossy, black hair. And in her hands was a deadly-looking pistol, aimed directly at my chest.

Who? Me? Hiding something? Never! 😉 To be fair, you'll know all by the end of the book...

I love that photo! The Little Rascals?

All will be explained in the next chapter, out tomorrow!

I can tell you that at least one of you guesses above is correct. (And Tad did tell Killian that Tad is short for Thaddeus.)

When Razi blew through the door, I was afraid it was going to be the worst-case scenario. "I really wish you didn't lock this place up like fucking Fort Knox. I can't even let myself into my own home. Feels like a jail with all those damn locks. Oh—" His verbal barrage came to a screeching halt when he spotted me standing awkwardly by the chair. He quickly rearranged his expression into a semblance of pleasantry. "I didn't know we had company. Hello. Wait, I remember you. You're M

I think my favorite novel is (the renamed) And Then There Were None (and the 2015 ITV mini-series, which was excellent...amazing cast, with the beautiful Aidan Turner. Highly recommend, if you haven't seen it.). Geraldine McEwan from the TV series Marple is probably my favorite Miss Marple, but they're all so good.

I was a BIG Nancy Drew fan as a kid, though I discovered Agatha Christie first, which somehow led me to Nancy Drew. I read some of the newer (at the time) Hardy Boys books in the '90s, but was always a much bigger fan of Nancy, George and Bess. The very first "book" I ever wrote was a blatant Nancy Drew rip off when I was about 12. LOL Funny story...I do fundraising for a library system for my day job, and I recently planned an event with Erik Larson where I learned that he also was a big Nancy Drew fan, and didn't care for the Hardy Boys at all! Do you have a favorite Agatha Christie novel? Or adaptation?

@drsawzall @Summerabbacat @Seraph28 @Philippe The Detective Club is off to a strong start! A random killing wouldn't make for a very interesting mystery, now would it?

This made me laugh out loud.
