Life in notes - 3. Chapter 3
Over the course of the next week things changed drastically. Instead of Luke's constant silence there was laughing and endless conversation. Luke's music could be heard from every corner of the house. It impressed Cathy to see Luke's passion and persistence. The two of them were a family again and the house, for once, felt at peace with itself.
The only scary thought in Cathy's mind was now that she had Luke back, she would have to give him up again for college. It was a bitter sweet thought. Cathy would back up any decision Luke made no matter how far it would take him away from her. Luke on the other hand was afraid of making the wrong choice in picking a school. Separately the two struggled with their anxieties.
Luke's new found interest in life was noticed by his classmates. He was more sociable and energetic. People who looked over him before, began taking notice of him. Where he used to blend into the wall now he called attention to himself. His teachers quickly took a liking to the new Luke. Life finally looked hopeful for him.
It seemed like Luke had become quite the ladies man. He always hung out with girls. His lunch time consisted of a packed lunch and being surrounded by girls. He was only seen talking to the ladies. At least that's how Skylar saw it. With Luke's sultry gray eyes, perfect brown hair, handsome face, and style it wasn't a wonder how he swept any girl off her feet.
Skylar was also popular with the ladies. Every week he had a new one hanging on his arm. He believed that Luke and he shared a lot in common. He was drawn to Luke with out knowing why. All he did know was that he wanted to be Luke's friend.
“Hey, is anyone sitting here?” Skylar asked Lukeas he plopped his book bag down on the table beside Lukes.
“No I don't think so.” Luke answered snapping out of his tired haze. It was early in the morning. Both Skylar and Luke shared home room together.
“You're Luke right?” Skylar asked already knowing the answer to the question. There wasn't much else Skylar new about Luke. Until this point Luke had only been the kid that sat in the back of his home room class.
“Yeah I am.” Luke smiled. He felt awkward talking to Skylar. He always noticed skylar but never in his life did he think that they would be talking. Skylar was known as the big man on campus. He wasn't a jock he was just popular.
“I'm Skylar but everyone calls me sky.” He said returning Lukes smile. Something about Luke made Skylar happy. It was almost as the lights had been turned on in his head and everything was bright.
“Yeah, I know who you are. Every one knows who you are.” Luke said knowledgeably. There wasn't much Skylar wasn't involved in at school. Student class president, anchor for the school news, editor of the year book, skylar was involved in everything.
“Don't hate me cause im popular.” Skylar joked.
“So whats up man?” Luke asked skeptically.
“I wish I were asleep, that's whats up.” Skylar answered taking his seat.
“I know what you mean. I didn't get much sleep last night. I kept my aunt awake till two in the morning practicing my piano piece for my recital tomorrow.” Luke said dreamily. Part of Luke's piano teachers course was to preform at a recital every 3 months.
“Wow, you play the piano?”Skylar asked interestedly.
“Yeah I read music and everything. I'm a legitimate musician.” Luke stated proudly.
“Well maybe you and I should play together sometime.” Skylar interjected.
“Oh, you play piano too?” Luke asked floored. He never considered Skylar a musician. It was almost irritating to think about. He was popular, super involved in school, and now he played an instrument.
“No I don't play piano. I Play the violin. It's kinda lame but I have been playing since I was 6.” Skylar quickly searched Luke's face for a reaction. He never really told anyone about his musical ability. It was kinda nerdy to him. If everyone found out he was a classical violin player he believed he would lose his popularity.
“That is awesome Sky. I don't think I've ever met a violin player my own age. How well do you play?” Luke was hooked. Skylar was blowing his mind. It's not everyday you meet someone who plays music and has study as long as he had.
“I sent my application and audition tape to Berklee a few months back and I got have been accepted pending a face to face audition. I would say I'm pretty ok.” It was true. All of Skylar's life he dreamed to be apart of an orchestra. When he was old enough he began practicing pieces to audition for his dream school. Berklee was the only school in his head to go to.
“Me and my aunt actually just started filling out my application to Berklee last night. We're going to use my recital as my video audition.” Luke said excitedly. It was also Luke's desire to attend Berklee.
“Where is your audition? I think It be cool to see you play.” Skylar asked.
“It is going to be at Mrs. Pokrats studio. My instructor is apart of her staff there.” Luke was amazed at Skylars interest. The last time Luke preformed at any recital his mother was there. It was nice to imagine Skylar there. It excited him and made him want to preform even more.
“Really!?!?! Mrs. Prokrat is my violin instructor.” just as the words left his mouth the bell rang for class to start.
“Thats so cool.” Luke whispered.
“Yeah we should meet up at lunch.” Skylar said quickly and was hushed by their homeroom teacher. Luke shook his head in approval as skylar smiled inwardly.
