Sapphire Blue - Prologue. Prologue
He blinked at the brightness, yawned, and stretched; his hand searched the bed for his partner. But the space was cold and empty. He raised his head wondering where that man must be. Was he having one of those early breakfast meetings? He recalled the scent of his lover who earlier had woken him after his shower, but he had no idea what he had said. He looked around for a note and his eyes fell on a blue envelope lying on the pillow next to his.
Today was his birthday. He opened the envelope and found a simple white card with two intricately woven hearts. He looked at the card smiling to himself. Elegant. Simple. Just like his lover.
“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”
His man always professed he lacked the ability to write beautifully. But here it was. He had no idea how the man had managed to find a book with such words; words that could melt his heart. He traced the words with his index finger and lifted the card to press a kiss on the signature.
I love you too.
He told the empty room.
