Terra Vitae - 3. Chapter 3
Another warning for horror, and gore.
Silas opened his eyes, which were now struggling to adjust to the light overhead. He hopped off his bunk and landed lightly onto the flooring of the ship. Eyes instantly scanning the area for Jenson, only to come to the conclusion that he must be outside. Walking over to the hatch, that was now sealed, he started inputting the code to break the seal.
As soon as the hatch opened, a hand shot through the opening, violently pulling him through. He struggled to fight against the force pulling him outside, grabbing onto the handles as hard as he could, but felt helpless as another hand latched onto his wrist in a painful lock. He tried to kick his assailant with his other foot, but to no avail. His attackers hand that was harshly grasping his wrist did several small and unnaturally fast pivots from left to right ending which resulted in a resounding pop throughout the room as his wrist was dislocated.
As his grip on the handles failed he was jerked back until he was hanging upside down, his eyes locked on the attacker's chest. The chest was a mere mess of wires and tubing running into what looked like the chassis of a mechanical miner. The tubes were a deep red, to show that there was indeed a fluid similar to that of blood pumping into and out of this mech's chest. He tried to catch a glimpse of the technological monstrosities face, but was incapable of raising himself up enough.
Then the creature threw him into a nearby wall, hard. He hit the metallic surface with a painful thud and immediately scrambled back away from the monster that was attacking him. He looked up to see it was crawling towards him on all fours and frantically he began feeling about his uniform for a weapon. Only to come up empty handed.
It was then that the creature stopped, at the very most nine feet from him. He glanced up and what he saw unsettled him to the core. It was a human head crudely connected to the robotic construct with wires and metal plates. As it cocked its head to the side he got a better look at it. Its head was horribly mangled; the eyelids were missing, along with the eyes, and the entire lower jaw. It remained stationary, its eyeless sockets aimed straight at him.
He was unsure of what to do. If he moved he feared it would lunge for him, but if he remained in this position it would likely come for him eventually. So he decided to run. Picking himself off the floor as quickly as possible and running. The creatures footfalls grew loud, and it began making garbled screeches. The door to the elevator had been shockingly torn apart, but he charged toward it, intending to escape the monstrosity which was tailing him.
The opening was nearly within reach when he felt a body ram into him, knocking him through it. Panicking he began swinging his arms around in an attempt to save himself. Only to realize that it was indeed not the creature that had tackled him, as the emergency gates activated and locked said creature outside. Then looking up to see Jenson’s eyes staring back at him.
“Silas, are you alright?” Jenson asked with a concerned tone of voice. Silas just stared at him. He felt angry all of a sudden, so he reared his fist back and punched Jenson in the face. Jenson recoiled and landed on the ground near the elevator entrance, and Silas gripped his hand as pain shot up through his arm from the punch.
“You asshole! Where the hell were you when I was being chased around by that… thing?” He yelled angrily at Jenson, glaring holes in his head.
“I was attempting to find a way out of this hangar.” Jenson replied. “Though it seems that my exploration was not required, because it seems this creature has given us the exit we need.”
He just looked at Jenson with a disbelieving look on his face. His jaw clenched, and his anger flared back up once again.
“You really are an emotionless piece of shit aren’t you? I almost died, and here you are looking like you don’t give a damn!” He yelled at him, emptying all of his fright and anger into the outburst. His eyes were beginning to fill with tears, and his one properly functioning fist clenching hard at his side.
Jenson just stared at him with a blank look, saying and doing nothing. They both just sat there for what felt like hours, just staring at eachother. Silas remaining livid as he waited for some sort of a response from the other, while he sat there attempting to process the situation.
Silas though, grew tired of waiting and began walking off towards the elevator. He approached the door and began once again searching for a control panel. Eyes scanned along the walls of the dimly lit room and he eventually came to the conclusion that there was no panel to be seen. He glanced back over at Jenson, who had remained where he was with the same blank expression on his face.
“Are you just going to stand there, or are you going to help me find a way out of here?” Silas asked. Jenson turned to look at him. His face still blank, but his eyes now scanning the room. It was soon that he began emitting a blue beam of light from his eyes, to scan for any possible interfaces for him to interact with.
He then moved towards the other side of the room, and put his palm against the wall. The wall immediately lit up with a blue glow as a holographic interface sprung to life. Fingers beginning to swiftly type away, and it’s not long before the elevator door hissed open.
Silas then began moving slowly towards the door. Preparing for the worst possible outcome, he peaked around the doorway. What he saw made him sick, all throughout the elevator decapitated corpses were hanging from hooks, that were lodged into their necks. The smell was horrible, and he doubled over releasing the contents of his stomach all over the floor.
“Jenson, I think I need…” He began, but trailed off as the blackness consumed him.
I know it has been a while. But hey look, I posted! :D
