The Arrival Of Mr. Godot? - 2. Scene 2

Scene Two

Same. Estragon enters.

Estragon: Something that must be done.

Vladimir Follows.

Vladimir: We cannot do it.

Estragon: Something to be done.

Vladimir: Waiting.

Estragon: Nearly dying.

Vladimir: Waiting For God.

Estragon: I thought it was Godot.

Vladimir: I thought it was Pozzo.

Estragon: Pozzo?

Vladimir: Doesn’t matter

A rope can be seen appearing onto the stage through Dionysus.

Couldn’t. It just couldn’t.

Estragon: What are we waiting for?

Vladimir: We are waiting for Pozzo.

Estragon: Godot.

Vladimir: Pozzo.

The silent figure enters. It is Lucky. It collapses with a letter in his hand. He squirms, defeated.

Vladimir: What does he hold?

Estragon: The chance of recognition?

Vladimir: It is in the middle.

Estragon: Missing something.

Vladimir: Needing something.

Estragon: What he holds?

Vladimir: Our life.

Estragon: A message from somewhere?

Vladimir: The end of the play.

Estragon: End of life.

Vladimir: Shall we look?

Estragon: It’s from Godot.

Vladimir: It couldn’t be. Just waiting.

Estragon: Waiting for what will never come.

Vladimir: Shall we read the letter?

Estragon: We should.

Vladimir: Yes, Lets.

The lights dim. A figure enters carrying a boot. This time it pauses by Estragon. Estragon coughs. The figure drops the boot in front of Vladimir. It leaves.

It was not Godot.
