I agree with LittleBuddha. Your friend has done the typical insensitive male thing of opening his mouth without thinking. The only way you'll know if he was being daft or serious is to talk to him.

Yeah, at least if you tell him how you're feeling you won't always be wondering what would have happened if you'd talked to him about it.
