Topics can be locked for a variety of reasons. Locking a topic prevents anyone from posting to it. They may be locked if the discussion has devolved to personal attacks, off-topic responses, etc. Topics may also be locked to give the Site Moderation Team time to discuss the topic and may or may not be reopened.
