    Part III: Joint Ops

Thank you both! 🤩 @drsawzall yeah, Mack is a real menace to his 1st in command. Like a true brother from another mother. I like their banter and how he keeps refering Parker as alien. @VBlew That's a sharp observation you make there, but it's for their future adventures. 🤫 In reality Brody is way past the retirement age of his unit so he's been lucky and very stubborn.
  2. The rental Tahoe ran with a quiet, generic efficiency as Parker navigated the winding two-lane roads. It was 0530 on a Monday. The world outside the tinted windows was a wall of black pines and humidity. He had flown in late Sunday night, checking into the on-base hotel—another sterile, beige box that felt less like a room and more like a storage unit for government assets. He hadn't unpacked. He hadn't slept well. The silence of his brownstone had followed him here, but now it was mixed wi
  3. Glad to hear you like it. I'm stoked. @Summerabbacat Yeah, Brody being vulnerable and funny are also my favorite moments. I just try to contain myself and remember to keep him as the brooding Operator he is. Those guys are rarely mushy... and far too often what's left is jus a shell... It can be really sad where the devotion and hard work can lead to. So to keep it light, the grumpiness of Koalas fit the bill, operators being cute in their male ways but dangerous. This chapter is now the first one that got bit of the rewrite treatment to dive deeper into the characters.
  4. The view from the third-floor bay window was a wash of gray steel and unrelenting rain. Down on the street, the city was waking up, a mechanical hum of traffic and millions of people rushing to be relevant. It was the kind of international energy Parker had spent his twenties and thirties craving. He used to feed on it—the anonymity of the crowd, the constant noise that drowned out his own thoughts. Now, he just stared at the wet pavement and felt hollow. It had been two months since h
  5. Hey! Yeah, the P&B story is cross-posted on a few sites. I’m just testing out different platforms to see how they operate and what the communities are like. Some of you might have seen it elsewhere, but I’m going to post the first 4 chapters here for anyone who only uses this forum. Just an update on what's next: the 2nd adventure is happening, but it needs a rewrite before it's ready-ready for deployment . Thanks for reading! @Summerabbacat & @VBlew Thank you for taking the time to comment and kind words. 🫡 I don't really care about guns as plot devices or sources of suspence... hence I try to use the military setting just as the frame for this masculine encounter and character study.
  6. The whole cavernous Joint Operations Center at Al Udeid was too small for the amount of ego it contained. The room was dimly lit by the blue screens and low-frequency humming of server racks. The air-conditioning was fighting a battle against the Qatari heat and the collective respiration of the men who had spent the last seventy-two hours watching a geopolitically high-stakes operation disintegrate into a series of expensive and bloody mistakes. Massive LED arrays dominated the front
  7. The exploits of the P&B duo; 1st story. Parker: the ex-officer turned contractor/fixer. Brody: the Tier-1 operator who holds the line. Both men built for impact, with zero tolerance for games. Brothers in arms, partners, and solitary souls searching for a forever home. A military alliance of two against a rotten world. This is the unredacted and rewritten version for adult readers. You can find this full narrative also on other platforms online.
