    National Tell a Joke Day
    On August 16, make everyone around you giggle, guffaw, chortle, cackle or in other words, laugh, by telling them a joke because it is Tell A Joke Day.

    While the origins of this hilarious day are unknown, we can all safely assume that the creator of this unofficial holiday was aiming to make the world a happier place by encouraging people to tell and listen to jokes.
    Different Jokes
    A joke can be of different types. They can be verbal, as in the case of a one-liner, a whole story or in the form a question and answer, where the answer provides the humor. Jokes can also be physical such as in the case of a prank or a practical joke, where the act rather than the words provide the humor. Either way, the main purpose of a joke is to entertain by providing humor, even though jokes can sometimes be used to make serious commentary like in the case of satire.
    Jokes have been an integral part of human history and many great minds have spent time and energy in trying to understand what makes jokes funny.
    The day is known in the US as National Tell A Joke Day, and not to be confused with International Joke Day on July, 1.
    How to Celebrate?
    Every time you meet someone on this day, tell them a joke. Just make sure the jokes are appropriate to the setting. Pick up a joke book and spend your lunch hour reading it. Watch your favorite comedians do their thing either on TV or on stage and partake in a few hours of humorous entertainment.     The origins of this holiday are unknown, though it is thought that the holiday began as National Slacker Day in Britain.
    In the hustle bustle of their daily lives, most people often forget to slow down and take some time for themselves. This can create stress and other stress-related health issues like high blood pressure and heart problems.
    Take a Deep Breath
    Relaxation Day is a reminder that sometimes it is okay to take a deep breath, slow down and take it easy - not only does relaxation make you feel better about yourself, it can have long-term health benefits too!
    So on this day, do things that help you relax and de-stress. Kick back and enjoy a cold beverage in your backyard, read a book while curled up with a hot cup of tea, sleep the whole day long, or take a warm bath and spend the day in your pajamas watching TV.
    How to Celebrate?
    Relax! Do whatever that you feel relaxes you, even if it is for a short while. Use this day to do a digital detox. Unplug the computer, put away the phone and stay away from all social media. With no work emails to fret over and no social dramas to be bothered with, you will feel the stress melt away. Go to the spa for a day of pampering and some "me" time.     August 13 is Left-Handers Day. Created in 1992 by the Left-Handers Club as a way to celebrate left-handers, the unofficial holiday aims to ‘raise awareness of the advantages and disadvantages left-handers face.’

    The day also encourages businesses and governments to be more left-handed friendly and adapt everyday objects for left-handed people.

    Left-handed people use their left hands to carry out tasks that require the use of hands. About 10% of the world's population is left-handed. Despite this, most equipment and day-to-day articles are designed and manufactured for the use of right-handed people - those who use their right hands to perform tasks.
    The purpose of Left-Handers Day is to make the majority right-handers aware of the frustrations that left-handed people face while using devices designed for right-handed people. The day also encourages designers to think about the convenience of those whose left hand is their dominant hand.
    Left-Handers Day is also sometimes known as International Left-Handers Day.
    How to Celebrate?
    Many organizations and public places in cities around the world create “lefty zones”, where everyday objects are adapted for use by left-handed people.     Middle Child Day
    August 12 is Middle Child Day, a day to recognize middle born children and to acknowledge their place in their families.

    Many believe that the order of one’s birth can affect one’s personality. The middle child, or second born of three siblings, is said to suffer from middle child syndrome, a feeling of isolation and exclusion within the family.
    Some studies have shown that in a family with multiple children, the oldest and the youngest get the most attention from their parents while those in between tend to be left by themselves, often ignored and forgotten. Middle children often have to fight for the attention of their parents and may sometimes feel like they do not belong to the family.
    Independent and Creative
    Being a middle child, however, isn't all that bad. Research has shown that being left alone to their own devices can actually be a positive thing for middle children. The fact they may not receive as much attention as their siblings, some studies suggest, can make them independent and creative. The lack of expectations can also help them develop their personality and life skills without any external constraints.
    The unofficial holiday with unknown origins is also sometimes called National Middle Child Day and International Middle Child Day.

So, take this day to tell your sons and daughters how much they mean to you and that you respect them and love them.

    If you have young kids, take them on a fun outing to let them know you care about them. Give your kids a big hug in the morning and tell them how much you love them. Make them a special meal and let them eat treats reserved for special days. Don’t have kids? Shower your affection on your nieces or nephews if you have any.     August 10 is Lazy Day. Celebrate your inner couch potato by giving up all your daily chores and doing nothing the whole day long!

    While we really don't want to tell you more about this awesome holiday, we are feeling lazy, you see, we will, so that you can make the most of trying to be dull for an entire day.
    Also known in the United States as National Lazy Day, this unofficial holiday of unknown origins honors sloths, slackers, layabouts, idlers, and lazybones. It also provides an excellent excuse to those among us who are stressed and over-worked to take the day off and recharge.
    How to Celebrate?
    Do we really need to spell it out? Laze around, do nothing, goof-off, slack, and procrastinate. Refuse to do any chores - you can always do them the next day. Order food in instead of cooking and spend the day on the couch watching back-to-back episodes of your favorite TV show. Go to the spa and get a well-deserved "me-day."     I was sitting behind an enthusiastic mom at my son's Little League game. Her boy was pitching for the opposing team and she cheered as he threw wild pitch after wild pitch. The poor kid walked every batter. It was only the first inning and the score was 14–0. Then one batter finally smacked the ball.

    "Oh no," the mom wailed. "There goes his no-hitter."

    Standing on the sidelines, during a game being played by my school's football team, I saw one of the players take a hard hit. He tumbled to the ground and didn't move.

    We grabbed our first-aid gear and rushed out onto the field. The coach picked up the young man's hand and urged, "Son, can you hear me? Squeeze once for yes and twice for no."

If you are a book lover, take the day to show your books some love. Clean your bookshelves and rearrange your books – may we recommend by color? Get into your most comfortable clothes, curl up on your couch with a cup of hot tea, and take yourself on a great adventure with your favorite book. What about throwing a book themed party? Have everyone wear costumes from their favorite books and serve food featured in some of your favorite books. For example, serve tea and scones for an Alice in Wonderland themed party or apple pie and ice cream if Jack Kerouac is your favorite author. Visit your local library.     Created by the Secret Society of Happy People in 1999 as Admit You’re Happy Day, this unofficial holiday encourages people to be open about their happiness and to share it with others.
    Unlimited Happiness
    The holiday is based on the premise that happiness is unlimited and contagious and that sharing one's happiness and can bring a lot of joy in other people's lives. In addition, the unofficial holiday commemorates the day the first member joined the Secret Society of Happy People. In 2000, the Society expanded the celebration of happiness and declared August as Happiness Happens Month.
    How to Celebrate?

    Sister's Day
    The first Sunday of August every year is celebrated around the world as Sisters’ Day.

    The unofficial holiday honors the strong bond that people share with their sister(s). Sometimes called National Sisters' Day in the United States, the holiday encourages people to celebrate the special relationship between them and their sister(s).
    This is a day to acknowledge the joy and love that your sister brings into your life and to make sure that she knows that you cherish all that she does for you.
    Describes Many Different Relationships
    While sister is usually used to refer to a female sibling, the term can be used for a variety of relationships. In many cultures, the term is used to address a female nurse, a woman who is in religious service, like a nun, or any other unrelated woman who shares a person's religion.     Several years ago we headed to a nearby town to visit some relatives. I had a new car and was having fun driving fast on the twisty country roads. As we zoomed along, I noticed a three-legged chicken keeping pace with me. I slowed to get a better look at the speedster when it turned and went down a dirt road. I stopped, turned around and followed it.
    After a short ride, we came upon a house with an older couple sitting on the porch and dozens of three-legged chickens in the yard. I asked them, “Are these your chickens? They’re the fastest I’ve ever seen.”
    The old man said, “Yep.”
    So I asked him where they came from, and he replied,
    “When the kids were younger, they always fought over the chicken legs, so we decided to breed a three-legged chicken.”

    SORRY!! - I spent several hours today trying to to put a photo of my Trans Am into my album, it was 2.2 Mgs, 2 Mgs is the maximum allowed. I tried so many different things that now I can't even copy a joke or picture to this post, from anywhere. If the same thing happens with my 'Did You Know' and 'Spiders' you will know shortly after I do. If so, bear with me until I figure it out.
    I am sure it is a simple solution, I'll try my best. I keep getting, Insert existing attachment or Insert image from URL.

    Because of its high water content, watermelon is a good thirst quencher. In fact, in the Kalahari desert, where they are called tsamma, watermelons are one of the main sources of water during the dry, hot season. In the past, people crossed the desert only during a good tsamma season.
    Some studies have shown that the antioxidants in watermelon - carotenoid and lycopene - can reduce the risk of some types of cancer.
    All parts of the fruit are edible - its flesh can be eaten as is, cooked or juiced. In many parts of the world, the rind or the thick green outer covering of the fruit is stewed, fried or pickled. In some parts of in the China, watermelon seeds are dried and roasted and enjoyed like nuts.
    How to Celebrate
    Celebrate the holiday by having watermelon for all your meals. Have a big glass of watermelon juice for breakfast; make a lovely watermelon, feta cheese, and mint salad for lunch; and for dinner, make watermelon salsa to go with your fish.     Single Working Women's Day
    August 4 is Single Working Women's Day, a day reserved to recognize the important role that single working women play in our communities and societies.

    The unofficial holiday was created by Barbara Payne who realized that despite the important economic and social contributions of single working women, there were no holidays that celebrated their achievements, creativity, and courage. And thus, Single Working Women's Day (SWWD) was founded in 2006. SWWD falls with Single Working Women's Week, a whole week devoted to celebrating happily single women who are gainfully employed.
    No Longer a Stigma...
    As societies around the world have progressed, the age-old stigma associated with single and/ or working women is slowly but surely disappearing. Today, women do not have to be married and stay-at-home to prove their worth. Successful and accomplished single women can be found in every walk of life and they contribute to their workplaces and communities on par with their peers who are married or in relationships.
    ...But Still Many Challenges
    Despite this, there are many challenges that single working women still face in the workplace and in society. SWWD raises awareness about these issues and encourages people to find equitable solutions. The day also attempts to eliminate singlism - the stereotyping and discrimination of single people. It acknowledges that singlehood does not preclude happiness and satisfaction with life and that some people prefer going through life solo than with a partner.
    How to Celebrate?
    Honor all the single, working women in your life. Let them know that you admire them, respect their decisions and are inspired by what they do. In many parts of the world, being a single woman is still considered to be a shameful thing. Volunteer your time and money to organizations that work towards helping single, working women stand on their feet and be self-sufficient in these countries. Did You Know...
    ...that studies have shown that single people are much more social than married people? People with spouses and partners tend to spend less time with friends and more time with their families.

    The first Friday of August every year is International Beer Day. The unofficial holiday celebrates the art and science of brewing beer and encourages people to try out new flavors of beers.

    International Beer Day was created in 2007 by Jesse Avshalomov, Evan Hamilton, Aaron Araki, and Richard Hernandez, in San Francisco, United States as a way to bring friends and strangers together over pints of beer. Between 2007 and 2012, the holiday was celebrated on August 5, but due to popular demand that the day be held on a Friday, the organizers changed the date to the first Friday of August.

    Many theories exist on how lasagna became one of the traditional dishes of Italy. According to one theory, lasagna came to Italy by way of Greece. The word lasgna is close to the Greek work lasana, which means a trivet for a pot. Another theory suggests that the dish owes its origins to an English dish called Loseyn.
    Wherever lasagna originated, however, it is clear that the addition of tomato sauce to the dish did not occur until the late 1500s. It was only after Christopher Columbus reached America in 1492, that tomatoes reached Europe.

    Native to The Americas
    Chocolate is an edible treat made from the extracts of the cocoa (cacao) bean found in the cocoa pod. Native to the Americas, each pod on a cacao tree has up to 30 to 50 seeds that are fermented, dried, and roasted to make cocoa solids. Chocolatiers then mix the cocoa paste, also known as chocolate liquor, and the cocoa butter with milk and sugar to make milk chocolate.
    Types of Chocolate
    Dark chocolate is usually made with little or no milk and has less sugar than milk chocolate. White chocolate on the other hand only has sugar, milk and cocoa butter.
    It is believed that milk chocolate was first created as a drink in the mid-19th century in Germany. The first milk chocolate in the form of a bar that we all recognize today was created by Swiss chocolatier Daniel Peter in collaboration with Henri Nestlé, the founder of the chocolate company Nestlé.

    Here are some ways you can celebrate this sweet holiday:

    July 25 is Culinarians Day, an unofficial holiday that honors all cooks and chefs who bring good taste and great food in people's lives.

    Culinarians are experts in the art and science of cooking and serving food. They can be chefs, cooks, home cooks, bakers, and anyone else who is involved in the process of preparing and serving meals. Professional culinarians tend to work in restaurants and commercial kitchens.
    While the origins of Culinarians Day are unknown, we can all safely assume that the holiday was invented as a way to thank all the culinarians who make our experience of eating out fun and special.
    How to Celebrate?
    If you personally know a chef or a cook, send them a thank you note and a thoughtful gift. Make a special dinner for the person who cooks for you every day. Go out to eat and thank the chef and the cooks for laying out a good meal for you. Did You Know...

    A few weeks back, I went to the hardware store and bought an ax to use on an overgrown shrub. I put the ax in a bag and went a few doors down 
to the grocery store, where I bought two bottles of wine.
    As the clerk placed the wine in the bag, he spotted the ax.

    Cousins are fun to be with – they are almost like your siblings but you don’t have to share all your prized possessions with them all the time. Celebrate them on Cousins Day, an annual celebration of the special bond you share with your cousins.

    Celebrated every year on July 24, the unofficial holiday is also sometimes known as National Cousins Day.
    Shared Ancestors
    In general, cousins are relatives with whom we share an ancestor, though in many cultures the term is commonly used to refer to the children of our aunts and uncles. In genealogy, which is the study of families and their history, a relationship between cousins - two people who have a common ancestor - is named after which generation they belong to.
    The Many Different Types of Cousins
    When cousins are from the same generation, they are known as first, second or third cousins. For example, first cousins are children of siblings - your uncle and aunt's children will be your first cousins. The children of first cousins are second cousins, and the children of second cousins are third cousins.
    On the other hand, when two people are not from the same generation, their relationship is described by adding the word removed. First cousin once removed, for example, is used to describe the relationship between a person and the children of his or her first cousin - your first cousin's child will be your first cousin once removed. First cousin once removed can also be used to refer to a parent's first cousin.
    Confused? One easy way to remember is that once removed means that there is a separation of one generation between the two relatives. Twice removed means there are two generations between them. The same logic applies to other degrees of cousinhood.
    How to Celebrate?
    Send a note or message to your cousins wishing them a happy Cousins Day. Tell them that you love them and you care about them. If you live close to your cousins, why not get together with them and their families and do something fun?     Pi Approximation Day
    July 22 is Pi Approximation Day. Also known as Casual Pi Day, the day is dedicated to the mathematical constant pi (π).

    Pi denotes the relationship between a circle’s circumference and its diameter and is denoted by the fraction 22/7 which calculates approximately to 3.14. One of the most widely recognized mathematical constant, π, is an irrational number, the digits of which repeat in a random fashion and are never ending.
    Depends on Date Format
    People in countries that write their dates in the date/ month format celebrate Pi Approximation or Casual Pi Day on 22 July or 22/7. On the other hand, those who write their date in month/ date format celebrate Pi Day on March 14 (3/14 or 3-14) because the first three digits of the date correspond to the first three digits of pi - 3.14.
    Move to Replace Pi
    In recent years, some mathematicians and physicists have argued for the replacement of the π by tau and to celebrate Tau Day on June 28 instead of celebrating Pi Day or Pi Approximation Day.
    How to Celebrate?
    Here are some ways you can celebrate this irrational, but fun holiday:
    Celebrate the day with lots of pie – remember a pie is also a circle so not only are you learning something about math, but also having fun while eating it! Have a pi contest. Whoever knows the most digits in the number takes home a pie. Did You Know...
