Jason locked the door to his office as he finished his day. The rest of the place was empty as expected. It was his second time leaving that day. He had left earlier to pick his son up from summer practice and spend some time with him. With a wave to the guards on duty he walked to the parking lot towards his car which for once was having elite company. The only other vehicle in the lot apart from his Honda was a brand new BMW SUV. The fact that he had not seen it in that place before made him t

“We run a very tight ship here. I, Detective Smith, Officer Sawyer, Officer Edmunds and now you Officer Johnson, we are the core of the Homicide investigations team.” Jason had called a meeting of his unit to introduce the new member. They were all standing in his office which was not very different from Tom’s. If anything there was more clutter and the whiteboards were covered with writings and pictures. “We obviously work closely with other divisions, but this team here, we are a family and

It was a busy Monday inside the Detective Division of Portland Police’s Investigative Unit. The Commander of Homicide Cell occupied a simple office that had a glass topped desk, a think-pad laptop, few book cases and a tropical plant. He was sitting and waiting for someone, drumming the table top with his fingers. After a knock the door opened and a suited up, tall, dark haired man in his early-thirties walked in. His hair was wet and brushed back. Neither the close shaven cheek nor the dapper s

Even for the best detectives, some mysteries are difficult to solve. Especially those involving the course of their lives.

Chapter 22 – Why

Thanks Lisa. Fixed it. Lemme know if it works -
Sun was shining brilliantly on Oregon’s beautiful hills as Kent and I drove on the winding roads of its wine making country. It had been a long drive from Seattle and I was hot and testy. “Man I hope they have a nice bubble bath to go with the bottles of bubble.” “Seeing as I am doing the driving, I believe those would be for me?” Kent supplied. “Us both”, I blew him a kiss. “You’ll wash my back.” “Ha ha. You’ll wash my back, which by the way is stiff because we took your little car.” “Aww,

I knew this me. Jenny and Clinton both tried to understand what I meant. They wanted to know if I had asked Carter up or if he had invited himself. Who cared? No matter how drunk I was, I was ready to spend the night with a random guy. Granted, I had lusted after him for long. But I had a boyfriend! What did it say about my resolve? I had slept with countless men I wasn’t interested in, just because I needed an itch scratched. It was that same lack of self-respect I had demonstrated on Thursday

Chapter 21 – Despair
meanderingsNmusings commented on meanderingsNmusings's story chapter in Chapter 21 – Despair
Well, Carter was obviously getting interested in Jon. They must have agreed on something in the cab . You know how these things happen. It's not always decided based on a deep discussion. -

My heart was so heavy; it seemed to outweigh my body. First when Kent left I just sat down on the floor and tried to think. It was easy, very easy to feel sorry for myself but I tried to fight that. After a while, I lost that battle and finally hauled myself into the comfort of my bed with a bottle of wine in hand. On Saturday, I only got up to take shit, to grab water and get bread & cheese when I felt hungry. I channel surfed some, but mostly just stayed awake till alcohol induced sleep to

well I was wondering where you were , so you finally caught up with the story. Jon's lack of insight is catching up. Dunno if Kent is doing the right thing by stepping away though. It would not be easy on him. -
There are days when we wake up and although the mind is numb, there’s a foreboding that something is not right. So we decide to lose that fleeting tranquility ourselves, ruing its loss as soon as it vanishes. My head was exploding at the time my eyes opened to daylight on Black Friday. I was comfortable, yet the familiarity of waking up in my own bed, under my own covers, wrapped in the arms of my own boyfriend felt unreal. Wait a second, whose arms were around me again? I sat up jerkily to ta

As I came back that night, I went straight to a bar to drown my sorrows. Jenny was out in Idaho, visiting family. The bar was empty, and the kid serving drinks gave me a surprised look. “Hey there Jon. What are you doing here? I thought you’d be celebrating Turkey Day with family.” “Clinton, could you spare me the interrogation until after I’ve had some alcohol in me?” “Are we doing scotch tonight?” “Yes please. Can I start with vodka shot first?” I placed the card on the counter, “Keep it o

Chapter 18 – 'The' Thanksgiving
meanderingsNmusings commented on meanderingsNmusings's story chapter in Chapter 18 – 'The' Thanksgiving
Thanks Joann -
“Mom! This is Kent. Kent, Mom.” We were picking my mother up at the San Francisco airport on the morning of Thanksgiving. “Hello!” she said, giving my boyfriend a cursory smile before ordering, “put the bags in the trunk, Jon.” I rolled my eyes and gave Kent a ‘told you’ look before putting her (unreasonably heavy) bags in the trunk while he went back to take the wheels. As we pulled out of the airport Kent tried to make conversation, “How was the flight, M’am?” “It was long.” “Eh, Kent, y

I had been waiting for it, looking out for the signs. Finally, it had arrived. I was in love with Kent, he was in love with me. If you asked me how I knew, I wouldn’t have been able to answer. After all, love is a much abused term. It’s just that I could not find another explanation for the emotions associated with Kent. With acceptance came the reality check. Whether I wanted it or not, the ‘future’ was in the reckoning. We were together, in it, to make our relationship last as long as it can;

We have all been dragged through our parents’ lives. That ordeal is generally very real for us. We pass through it kicking and screaming and recall it again at short notice through the rest of our years. Seeing Lydia and Pat, I came to realize there are so many things we imbibe from our parents that become our personality which we never credit them for at all. I could see the sturdiness of Kent's character come from Pat, while Lydia must have forced him to think and speak clearly or else she wou

Chapter 15 – A serious affair
meanderingsNmusings commented on meanderingsNmusings's story chapter in Chapter 15 – A serious affair
I think Jon in this case isn't entirely wrong to be pissed off. Kent, even though he's sweet, never waited to ask if Jon agreed with his plan .
