    The Party

You hit the nail right on the head. Our overly PC society fails to recognize personal relationships all too often. That woman would have been appalled if she heard some of my black friends call me 'n-word' even though I'm white. I don't think I need to comment on what the orange buffoon says or does. That man needs to die and be forgotten or remembered as one of our most inept leaders (using the word loosely.) EDIT Damn, Google. I had to use 'n-word' instead of my original choice. Appropriate considering I just complained about an overly PC society.

Did anyone notice how I was able to include my homage to Kobe Bryant into the chapter? This writing in the future crap's a pain. So much going on in the news I could milk for good drama.

I figured you'd like this. Aside from delving into the dads, it's Miles' third appearance in a story (Singer and Ranger) so I figured he deserved a little more exposure too. He'll be back in the next chapter. I think we have a new permanent cast member. I enjoyed writing about grownups in this book.

I've known a couple of individuals who donated entire art collections to museums; admittedly, they were older than Brett. Priceless art isn't covered by homeowners insurance, but since they have artwork in their Washington home, I'm certain they'll manage to arrange for coverage if they do take anything back. They can afford it. LOL

We'll definitely get more insight into him in the upcoming chapters. I don't think he was ever a teo-dimensional character, but I'll round him out a lot more.

Soooo many ways I could turn that phrase around. LOL

Thanks, Parker! Two easygoing chapters setting the stage, before we plunge into the excitement of bankers, attorneys, and foreclosures. LOL The only time I've rented a JEEP was while on a trip to Puerto Rico. Beaches one day and the rain forest the next. It was the perfect vehicle.

While CJ and Owen are busy with their daughter, and Ritch's locked up at the academy, the dads get to play. They've always been part of every CJ-verse story but may show up on a more frequent and significant basis in the future. Thanks!

Yes! Having my choice of restaurant validated is a great feeling. Particularly considering I've never been there. LOL In the end, it was a choice between WP24 and Michael's Santa Monica. Mikey's place I decided to save for a future story. Thanks, Wolf.

Thanks, Gary! Remember reading the first story years ago? I think my writing has improved a bit. LOL

You can use me as an explanation any time! I do like to share interesting stuff in the stories. I think a lot of authors miss the mark by skimping on atmosphere. Things like the food mentioned here. Most of the time, I avoid giving recipes, but I like my characters to eat well and enjoy varied cuisines. I admit I'm addicted to the TV show Top Chef and have at times relied on it for inspiration. Anyway, I read through a bunch of menus at different restaurants in the area until settling on WP24 because of convenience and tradition just like Brett said.

I love to mess with his laid-back, California surfer dude image now and then. Beneath all the jolly is a hard as nails man.

@WolfM is my go-to guy for all Marines' items these days. We'll have to see what he thinks. BTW, at one point Wolf pleaded I not turn B&C into a typical Malibu Ken and GI Joe couple. I kinda liked that. LOL

Thanks, Dave. Let's see if I can keep you as entertained with the rest of the story. I think this chapter pretty much represents the style of the remainder. I wanted to show Brett and Cesar as the affluent power couple they are and tried to give both moments to shine.

He's six years younger than Cesar and in the last chapter kidded Chipper about his sneakers. Maybe you're right. LOL

Oh, please... Now, if a book ended with the main character being arrested, a friend and their family being in a crash, or a relative being shot, THAT would be a cliffie. Not that I'd ever do that, of course.

The kids were cute but didn't interest me. I'll take a man any day. And a blond, surfing Marine is right up my alley.

I blame my inability to write a chapter a day on social isolation. I need to be around people so I can steal borrow lines for dialogue.

I started with Warhol inspired by an article I read on his soup cans. From that point on, it was simply fun to envision a couple more modern artists to include in the collection. Keep the thought about the cameras alive, we'll find out a few moire in a future chapter. It feels like 2020 will be my 'origins' year. PRIME recounted the opening of the bar and gave us a little insight into its owner. Explosions allowed me to revisit the shifter dolphins birth, and Malibu will give us insights into Brett. So far it's been mostly snippets I've shared about his background and the Davenport family. We'll get a house tour next chapter.

I've had a crush on Brett since I first envisioned him.

I tried to recapture the attention to detail I used in the early CJ stories hopefully with better results thanks to the experience.
  23. Note to newer authors- Start writing something for the next anthology NOW! Some readers are more likely to take a chance on your work if it's part of an anthology collection. You don't need a long saga, as a matter of fact, I think short stories work best to give people a taste of what you can do. I know participating in them when I started helped me build a following. Write, find yourself an objective beta reader, then look for an editor. If you submit a decent piece of writing, those new readers are more likely to read whatever you publish next. My thanks to @Renee Stevens and @Valkyrie for all their hard work.

CJ's home binge reading the anthology offerings. We all know he's a GA member, right? Thanks, Terry.
