I quite enjoyed looking for inspiration for Tate. ;-)There are reasons for both Gavin and Tate's action, though I'll go more into it later on. Tate knows what he wants and goes after it while Gavin is more hesitant.
Thank you for your review. I'll look into the forum and appreciate your advice. To be honest I've never heard of an em dash. I think I need to work on my descriptions also. I didn't quite achieve what I was going for with the 'half stutter, half whisper', or with Gavin's stuttering in general. Your revision looks cleaner and it is helpful to see an example of where I can improve. Hopefully my two chapters look okay for my first story, and I'll try to remember your advice for my future chapters.

Chapter 1
The sun had just come up, and the sky was streaked with breath taking shades or pink, blue and orange. Gavin pulled his back door behind him and made his way to the woods behind his home. His long legs encased in a pair of soft grey pajama pants, his torso and feet bare. With travel mug in hand, he headed for his favorite spot. It was a small area that he kept clean of debris with an outdoor chair facing the national forest that ran along the back of his property.

Gavin has everything...almost. His college loans are paid off, he has a great job, and a house he loves even if it's empty when he comes home.
