I was watching the news yesterday, and saw an interesting poll. It seems that 77% of those polled said they think that there will be a major terrorist attack against the oil supply sometime within the next year. Also, about 80% of people think the world will run out of oil within the next 50 years (and crazily enough, 20% of people think that the world will NEVER run out of oil).
Our economy is so completely dependent on oil that if something like a major terrorist attack were to occur on the oil supply, marshall law would probably be about the ONLY way for our country to go on. I'd hope that the world wouldn't end up in nuclear war over it, but I think that is a definite possibility.
I was, at one time, a very staunch supporter of gun control laws, mostly because of all the gun crime that occurs. But I've seen a lot of interviews with people in prison for gun laws, and basically nonody who is a career criminal or drug dealer or anything like that goes to a store to buy their guns. They get them all on the black market. Most of them also said that gun laws, including harsh penalties for gun crimes, didn't really deter them at all. What scared them a LOT more was the possibility that the person they were robbing was carrying a gun themselves.
I don't really know what to think about all this, but I do know that it scares me, and it scares me a lot. I just hope that my fears turn out to be unwarranted.
