  1. Bix was among the early-morning crowd, standing over the six corpses of the Fallandish nobles. She could not believe her eyes, but there they were, dead. She knew each of their names. Bix did not know how long she stayed with the other onlookers beneath the rising sun, but she eventually turned away and wove back through the crowd, making her way onto a quieter street. A moment later, she was alone. “Tawni, where would you go? You didn’t know how to find the dungeon.” Bix took a brea
  2. It had still been early in the night when Tawni left Bix asleep in their shared bed and silently made her way from the pleasure dungeon out into the dark streets. Tawni may not have known the Alphabet District at all, but she was a very skilled hunter, and she was on the prowl. These so-called nobles were easy to identify with their uniforms; Tawni just needed to find them. “I’m not going to let them take Bix back to that horrible king and queen,” she whispered. Tawni did not t
  3. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I like your train of thought!
  4. Pan Cakes finished shaving, and she escorted Tawni and Bix to a door with a little sign that read AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY. “This area is not for guests,” Pan stated. She pulled open the door and stepped back for Tawni and Bix to enter. There was a small hallway with four more doors. “These two rooms have beds in them, and there are snacks in this room… help yourselves.” She indicated the final door, which had the word EXIT printed on it. “This is the back entrance that we queens use to co
  5. I'm so glad you're enjoying their interactions :'-) I adore writing them
  6. haha there's a lot more of her story to come 🙂
  7. She can't help but make friends everywhere she goes, and usually that's a good thing, but you're right; it's not a good quality for a fugitive haha
  8. It was late evening but not quite night yet as Tawni and Bix crept through the darkening streets of Stonespire toward the Alphabet District. Bix had insisted on going back to see how bad the damage was, and to offer help if it was needed. Tawni was adamant that she was not going to leave Bix’s side. Before they made it to the destruction, they spotted a pair of uniformed nobles from Falland. Bix’s arm shot up in front of Tawni, stopping her in her tracks. The Fallandish outsiders app
  9. Rain was pelting down on the building that contained the poisonous plants. Tawni and Bix were on the eighth floor. They were seated close together by a large window, watching as the rain fell and the fires burned. The attack by the royals had ended, but the warship was still anchored in the harbor. The storm had begun battering it, but the buoyant vessel bobbed in the waves and did not look like it was going to sink. “Who are the royals?” Tawni asked. Bix groaned. “This par
  10. hahaha I tend to write really long chapters in my first drafts, and I end up cutting them in to smaller chapters where they seem to make sense for breaks in the story.
  11. Over an hour had passed since the deadly encounter with Captain Dakrin, and Tawni finally turned onto the street where she had been leading Bix. “We made it.” Tawni pointed at a building. Its sign was illegible. However, a large skull and crossbones had been painted on the wall above the door, and there were warning markers at the corners of the structure with KEEP OUT printed in red letters. “This looks ominous,” Bix commented, even though she could not read the words on the sig
  12. “Who’s after you?” Tawni asked as the pair headed to the stairs. “The royals,” Bix replied flatly, “didn’t think they’d come here though.” Tawni did not understand. “What royals? There aren’t any royals on Stonespire.” Bix shook her head. “No, their palace is far inland on the mainland, and they don’t have the military reach to establish a stronghold here.” Tawni held up the parchment with the yellow seal. “But this note implies they’re here for you! And whoever left it can
  13. “We need to rebandage that hand of yours,” Bix stated, glancing at Tawni’s wound. “Soaking in the seawater was good for it, but we need to protect it again.” The fingers of Tawni’s uninjured hand were interlaced with Bix’s. “Do you have gauze and stuff at your place?” “I don’t,” Bix replied, “but there’s an aid station here in the Alphabet District. It’s only a few blocks over. We can head there first and grab our grub after.” The women arrived several minutes later, and a jolly
  14. A lot of my books have female lead characters! "The Mantis Variant" is the beginning of my five-book grimdark series, and most of the main characters throughout are women. "Clown Wyrm" has two leads, a woman, and a gender-bending guy. Both are available to read here on GayAuthors
  15. There were a few other people enjoying the secluded cove. Two men in very small bikini bottoms were lying together in the sun, and a trio of children frolicked at the far side of the calm pool under the watchful eye of a woman. Bix turned to Tawni. She had not replaced the shirt they had used as a bandage, and she now thrust her shorts to her ankles. She kicked them away from her feet and did not wait for Tawni. “Come on!” Bix headed toward the water’s edge. Great, Tawni though
  16. hahaha from chapter 1: She had never known electric lights or motor vehicles, but the remains of such things were everywhere in the city where she lived I feel like the unusable old tech is commonplace, even if I haven't put much focus on it so far...
  17. Tawni’s voice was strong and confident as she recited her poetry. Walking on a wire With my head plugged in I just can’t imagine Cooperating And watching it all happen again Traded in my guts for gears Let go of all my fears Countless years upon this planetary sphere And the skies have never been this clear ’Cause you charged up my batteries And walked away from me Oh I Drink and smoke and cuss But I don’t mean to mak
  18. Once Tawni had finished her last bite, she and Bix headed back out into the sunny city streets, but Bix grabbed Tawni’s good hand, and she bounced up and down as she started to beg. “Please, please, pleeeeze, Tawni, tell me what you love to do!” Bix’s silliness made Tawni laugh. “Alright, alright, I’ll tell you.” She took a breath and quietly revealed, “I like to write.” Bix’s reaction was not what Tawni expected. She looked astonished. “You can write? I can’t even r
  19. Tawni felt put on the spot. She thought she had no idea what to ask Bix, even though many questions had swirled in her mind about the fascinating woman. “What happened to your cheek?” The words came out of Tawni’s mouth before she could stop herself, and she cringed as she heard her own voice. She was worried Bix would be offended at having her scar pointed out, or that there would be some traumatic memory associated with it, but before Tawni could apologize, Bix answered. “Isn’t it so
  20. I had the story set to "Temporary Hold" and i think that's what messed it up, but I've changed the status to "In Progress"
  21. Oh no, I'm so sorry the chapters got mixed up!
  22. Tawni and Bix had been walking for over half an hour, and the pair was still holding hands. Tawni asked Bix about different places she had visited, and Bix regaled her with stories about distant lands. “We’re finally at the edge of the Alphabet District,” Bix eventually declared, and she pointed at an intersection ahead of them. The plague that ended eighteen years ago had decimated the population and left the human race spread thin across the face of the Earth. So many people had die
  23. Two young women living on an island meet and begin to fall in love. A plague has ravaged the population, but it ended before either of them were born, and they only know the world as it now is.
  24. It had been eighteen years since the world came to an end, or so people liked to say, but Tawni had only known the world as it now was. Life had not ended at the end of the world; only the conveniences that society was accustomed to had ended. Tawni knew that many people died in the plague that had ripped through the population during the fall of civilization, but the information eighteen years later was vague and sketchy, and those people’s lives had been lost before Tawni was born. Worldwide c
  25. Again, thank you all so much! To give you an update on what's next... I'm in the middle of co-authoring a 50s-style big bug invasion movie as a novel that takes place in the near future, and I'm writing it with an insect expert! I also have written a sapphic romance set at the end of the world. My editor and I have begun working through it.
