    To add to that, I'm not even sure if John thinks gay people exist... Homosexuality is so vilified in Greece that one assumes (especially a younger rural man) that if you are not some weird obvious freak then you can't possibly be gay. Its in fact because of his naivete over what desires Peter might harbor that John is so callous and free about his nakedness.
