  1. GENERAL PIGNOUF

    Chapter 4

Unfortunatly i'm afraid these things go both ways. Tried my best to put in words an idea that was stuck in my head for a while, i was gonna use it for another story, but in the end i realised it would fit better with this one. Glad you like it
  2. Constantine looked up at his replica, seeing the compassion in his expression. “I still don’t understand,” he said, his voice trembling. “How can you say such things? I would never.” The replica crossed his arms, his gaze steady. “Yes, you would. You just refuse to admit it. Everything I’ve said, you’ve thought before. The only difference between the you of now and the me you see is that I’ve accepted it.” He spun around and snapped its fingers. The boundless white void dissolved, rep

    Chapter 3

Well religion most than anything else is subject to interpretation, I think everyone has their own view of what it is and what it means. For me, no matter how you look at it, especially in a medieval society where it dictates nearly every aspect of life, letting go of it can only bring freedom. And I guess it had changed a lot since then as religion is a lot less codified and strict (at least Christianity), but when I see what religion still causes around the world I can't stop myself from thinking it's a prison more than anything.
  4. Constantine collapsed onto his bed, desperate to ease his tense muscles. The lack of sleep was beginning to take its toll, wearing him down to the bone. The moment his head touched the soft pillow, his eyelids grew impossibly heavy. All he craved was to surrender to sleep, to rest for an entire day and awaken in a world free of worries. But he knew escape was a fantasy, his responsibilities weighed on him like a millstone, slowly grinding him down. Now, with his brother’s death, he would soon be

    Chapter 2

I don't think they really have a choice, but who knows First thank you a lot. Secondly, in 1444 Rasgusa is indeed independent, but I choose to show it under venetian control, for simplicity sake as it's hidden in a corner of the map, I also showed Georgia fully united when in reality it a lot more complicated for the same reason, same goes for the two Qoyonlu. And while I like precision I think its only necessary to a certain extent in relation to the story
  6. Heavy clouds lingered over Constantinople, the Queen of Cities, late in the morning, their gloom mirroring the dark imperial palace's council chamber, faded mosaics of saints glimmered faintly under the light of many candles. Constantine and his council had been working hard all morning, signing and drafting decrees and dispatching them across the empire’s territories. Within the regent’s inner circle, only Stefan softened the mood with his unwavering optimism, a contrast to the others, beaten u

  9. A faint cloud of water vapor curled upward in the frigid January air as Constantine exhaled, his breath visible against the biting chill. Leaning on a weathered stone railing of the Blachernae Palace’s terrace, he gazed absently over Constantinople, once the radiant heart of the world. The city lay cloaked in near-total darkness, pierced only by a scattering of faint lights flickering in the night. Constantine often sought solace here, watching those distant glimmers, each one a strong echo of t
  10. In the shadow of a crumbling empire, Constantine XI Palaiologos stands as the last hope of Constantinople, a city teetering on the edge of oblivion. As the Ottoman army, sixty thousand strong, masses beyond the walls with cannons poised to shatter the city’s ancient defenses, he grapples with a faltering faith in the God and the weight of a two-thousand-year legacy. Will Constantine’s resolve to fight for the souls of Rome, noble and commoner alike, defy the inevitable, or will history remember him only as The Last Of The Romans, will The Purple Phoenix rise once more, or will it remain a pile of lingering ashes.

  13. Rook gently placed his beer on the glass-top coffee table and stood to retrieve his bag from the house’s entrance. It felt heavy in his hands as he carried it to the living room, dropping it beside the half-empty beer bottle. He sat next to François and pulled out a thick book with a leather cover, engraved with the coat of arms of the Order of Poliakov, the only organized group of Venators in Belarus. Unlike French and most Western European groups, which typically bore the “House” prefix and we

  17. Scorching rays of sunlight bore down on the burning tarmac of the regional road just outside Oloron, the air thick with a shimmering haze. On the second to last day of August, the road lay desolate, its silence broken only by the faint drone of cicadas hidden in the dry grass. Rook’s aging Twingo struggled up the steep slopes toward town, its engine groaning under the strain, overheating in the relentless heat. He drove with care, easing the gas pedal to coax the car along, but the sun’s oppress

  19. Huxley struggled to focus as the ambulance tore through the winding streets of Pau, its sirens a faint, distant wail, nearly drowned out by the urgent chatter between the paramedics and his father, Jeremy. His muscles refused to obey, heavy and unresponsive, as if weighed down by an invisible force. His vision blurred with each passing second, the world dissolving into a haze of shapes and sounds. The pain from his bandaged left hand pulsed, images of the shattered bathroom mirror back home, the

  21. Huxley laid sprawled on his bed in his new room in his new town, bored out of his mind. He had tried watching a sci-fi series on Netflix, but he couldn’t focus on the laptop screen, the images blurring into a meaningless flicker. The reality that his old life in Georgia was truly over was sinking in, heavy and unrelenting, like a weight pressing on his chest. His thoughts kept drifting to his friends and extended family back home, the faces and places he’d left behind. His best friend, Tom, espe
  22. “I’m sorry, Jamie, but I’ll be out of town for a handful of days,” Rook said, taking a sip from his coffee as he braced for his brother’s reaction. The living room was quiet, light filtering through the blinds, casting long shadows across the worn wooden table. Jamie slid off his seat to turn on their old PS3, his small frame moving with a purpose that mirrored the disappointment in his eyes. “Oh,” he said softly, his voice tinged with a hint of sadness. “We’re not going to the beach
  23. Finally, Rook had the guy in front of him, his eyes locked on Huxley since he’d entered the gym, his presence a magnet for Rook’s trained instincts. He’d been tracking him for hours, ever since the energy spikes first registered on their device, their intensity unmistakable. But now, standing mere feet away, Rook pushed his mind to its limits, probing for the spiritual energy he’d expected to radiate from Huxley like a beacon. Nothing. The absence was jarring, a void where he’d anticipated a sto

  25. Huxley followed his parents into the house, stepping into an entrance hall where wooden stairs curved gracefully toward the second floor, their polished surface gleaming under the soft light of a wrought-iron chandelier. To the left, an arch opened to an enormous living room, its modern design a surprising contrast to the house’s ancient stone exterior. He’d expected rustic stone walls and heavy wood everywhere, picturing a cramped, medieval space, but instead, sleek furniture and clean lines do
