  1. Glaster called the six boys together in his room. “Are you all satisfied with your teachers and the men you have hired to protect us on our journey?” Prince Klandon shook his head, “I don’t see why I have to get a female wench to teach me magic.” Glaster glared at the boy with a withering stare; “If you continue to speak like a peasant I will have you dressed as one.” The prince started to respond but a quick nudge from Lylan allowed him the extra second he needed to control hi
  2. The king rushed into Glaster’s chamber. He spoke as soon as he saw his friend holding Mylan, “Are you all right?” “Have not been this good in many decades my Highness.” Glaster smiled raising one hand, then the other, while making sure to keep one arm cradling Mylan, who was still recovering for the spell he had completed for Glaster. The king took a step back in shock, “The pain I felt was a healing then?” “Yes.” Glaster lowered his head, “I am sorry. I should have warned you
  3. Gablon looked over his men. The attack against the Orc enclave had been a complete success and it showed in the eyes of all his hired guards. Although physically exhausted, a sense of pride and satisfaction could be seen in facial expressions, their attitudes, and their swagger. Those who stayed back to guard the wagons were in no way excluded, nor were those from the swamps who joined in the original defense of the caravan and their homes. Gablon made it a point to have his Healthmen tend
  4. Emroc stood on guard duty with one of the adults who had taken over his training since Gablon had bribed the day slave overseer in Junsac. Like the rest of his partners in crime, he didn’t like the idea of being forced into a caravan. Unlike his companions, he was thrilled with the idea of not having to train under the man who had originally started teaching them the skills of a Swordsman. The other three boys were all Lockmasters, a kind way of saying thief. Of all the Guilds, the Lockmas
  5. Aster walked back toward the inn with a small package of clothing for the youngster he would have to fight for in less than a day’s time. Already a few lads were moving up and down the streets announcing the Challenge of Ownership at the gladiatorial arena. Aster recognized one of the boys from the orphanage. “Hontel!” The young teen glanced around finally seeing Aster, “Hey! Long time no see.” “Yea, well I got hired for an expedition. I doubt I’ll be around for a long while.”
  6. The merchant sat huddled in his tent allowing a pair of slaves to keep him warm as snow and wind battered at the sides. Thinking over his situation, he should have agreed to pay some of the slum-building owners to house him and his men. At least they would have been able to have a central fire pit to keep warm. As it was, only the animals had buildings. He rented them as soon as it became clear this was not going to be a quick storm. In some ways he found it sad that so many people would agree t
  7. Wind gusts started battering at the window as Kandric ordered Jamon to wash his back. He had been in warm water springs plenty of times with Glaster and had servants wash him before. He had never been waited on hand and foot by a pair of slaves while he took an indoor bath before, however. It seemed like a pleasant dream to the young Halfelf who was normally only pampered when Glaster decided to give him a break from normal duties. He still felt quite guilty about taking over as Jamon’s tr
  8. Kandric moved out of his hiding place right about high sun. The stolen rations and sleep replenished his energy and a quick search turned up a freshwater spring trickling out between some rocks. With his thirst quenched, he set off in pursuit of his prey. An hour into his search he picked up the trail. The man finally made a real mistake. The captives had left easy to follow tracks through the forest as they struggled to maintain their balance. The long branches the man had lashed to their
  9. Vondum hated the pace he had to ride. The pair of Orc children and the two captive human boys really slowed him down. It truly aggravated him, but what could he do? He needed the Orcs to show his town why he had been gone, and the boys, well they were strictly fringe benefits. Besides, the boys were not holding him up any more than the Orcs already were. When he really thought it over, it wasn’t all bad. If Monarch had not ordered the Orcs to give him a pair of kids, he would have had to s
  10. An Elvin blacksmith apprentice at the Bronze Axe Metal Smithy noticed a pair of wagons come through the east gate of Junsac. The trailing wagon had some obvious damage to its front and right side. The animals pulling it seemed to be straining just to keep its wheels turning. Four warriors all in blood tarnished chain armor kept both wagons surrounded. This told everyone on the street not to get in the way. All four warriors rode Warsteeds of a very high caliber. The horns sticking out of the hor
  11. Kandric brushed tears out of his hazel-green eyes as he walked down the combination dirt and cobblestone street with slumping shoulders. For three days now he had tried to find a way to earn a copper or even a loaf of bread, but all to no avail. No one wanted the help of a puny Half-Elvish eleven-year-old equivalency boy. As he turned down the road leaving the village of Slome, two boys stepped in front of him. It was clear they had every intention of making his life even more miserable tha
  12. Note to all possible readers: This is a story containing descriptions of physical love and sex between adults and youth. If such things do not sit with you, then do not read it. If you are younger than the age your area’s government judges to be acceptable, you probably will read it, but be aware I have told you that it is a no no… If the idea of this does not sit well with you but you read anyway, I do not want to hear complaints, because this means you wanted to read my story. Understand
  13. The story follows Kandric and his brothers through a world of magic and danger. Monsters of all sorts dominate this story in a very gritty world full of slavery and other things not mentioned in polite society. Kandric makes his own path. Dare you follow?

    Chapter 11

In the base command center just outside of London, a Royal Air Force officer continued to monitor the weather phenomenon and the havoc it was creating over much of Unified Britain. The normally calm operations center of Northolt Air Station was now a beehive of activity, as real-time reports from one end of the country to the other were put up on a map showing temperatures, wind speeds, wind directions, rain totals, and barometric pressures. Across the room, members of the RAF weather service

    Chapter 10

Bryan pulled into the hotel determined to have it go better. This time, the attitude he got at the front desk was totally different as he tried arranging for adjoining rooms, offering to pay a hefty, only partially refundable, damage assurance fee so the three boys and the dog could have their own room. At first the desk clerk balked at the request, saying she could lose her job. However, after Bryan offered to talk to the manager and even pay double if need be, the very polite woman quickly sum

    Chapter 9

Across London, the storm had not let up in the slightest. While Alex and Ryan moved closer to the holographic projector in the lobby to look with wide eyes at the sights of power spilling out of ancient spots throughout the world, Bryan forced himself to calmly attempt to pay for a pair of suites with an adjoining door. The woman behind the desk glanced over the man with a frown, “Hotel policy says there must be an adult in each room.” “They will be right next door.” Bryan argued. “Sir

    Chapter 8

The devastated streets of Dublin, Unified Britain, were all but deserted, and had been for the last three and a half years. What had started out as a grey drizzly late fall morning quickly became something straight out of the worst possible nightmares. The cowardly attack leading to this had come just as the day was getting started for the million plus unsuspecting people of the once proud city. The nuclear blasts from the twin, French terrorist detonated, weapons instantly turned the once vibra

    Chapter 7

Alex and Ryan sat in the back of the new hover van while Bryan filled out the paper work and made a quick statement about the events leading up to the near destruction of the one he had originally rented. When he mentioned the fact they had seen the aircraft go down, he then went through a short debriefing from airport police as well. Alex, then Ryan, was also interviewed by the pair of investigators before the trio was able to finally pull out of the rental lot and head into the city. It

    Chapter 6

Alex turned to watch Stan lead the new security men back to the COSAM transport helicopter. He couldn’t help but admire how easily Stan managed to power the bird up and lift off. As he watched he mimicked the hand a feet movements needed to take the aircraft airborne. He frowned as it floated off the landing pad and turned toward London proper. Ryan watched his friend, “What’s wrong?” “Nothing,” Alex smirked, “except I couldn’t take off like Uncle Stan does if my life depended on it. I alw

    Chapter 5

Ryan watched as the COSAM transport helicopter landed. His stomach had plenty of butterflies over the meeting to come. Although he considered Alex his best friend, he hadn't really seen him in over a year. Sure they constantly talked to each other by videophone thanks to the free up-link to the COSAM communications satellite system, but it talking over a videophone was not the same as living with him. He was surprised to see Alex climb out of the pilot's seat of the large helicopter. He knew

    Chapter 4

Ryan was in the middle of another terrifying dream. This one picked up right where the last one left off. His lungs were filling with water when, suddenly, a hand reached into the water and dragged him out. It was a friendly looking man with graying hair and a wrinkled face. The man’s blue eyes twinkled with an inner kindness that radiated outward. Carefully the man turned Ryan around and held him up while he coughed up large amounts of water. “Don’t try to move yet,” started the man, “That w

    Chapter 3

Alex woke quite early. The dream from earlier in the morning was quite fresh in his mind as he came forward to check out the data on Metal Find. He punched up a three-dimensional graph on the holocube and replayed the past day’s search at high speed. The graph showed nothing but wavy lines. It looked like this area was particularly low in metal content. He then double checked their position and made sure the autopilot was working correctly. After verifying all major ship systems were working wit

    Chapter 2

Bryan and Alex cleaned up, had red snapper for supper, and headed down to the launch-area. Bryan took note that two of the SACs were not in the bay and looked over to the status board. The lower left corner of mission board had the current missions of SACs one and five as “Hunting Frenchman”. He immediately knew Stan was behind it. He pointed it out to Alex. Alex’s face broke out into a wide grin, “I sure hope they bag a few.” “For mom?” “Yea. And for the pirate activity they are involv

    Chapter 1

Bryan Caldwell was a fairly short, slightly overweight, man. His hair was a sandy colorwhich matched the color of his glasses rims. His eyes were a dark brown and seemed to always be questioning the world around him. He worked his way up from the research and development station deep within his ship, Cynthia. The ship was huge, much larger than the aircraft carrier Nimitz which had been the flagship of the Free Federal Navy of the U.S. during WW III. The ship had a new fusion power plant and was

    Prologue

The year 2017 was a bad one for the world as a whole. Lawmakers in the United States finally went too far and succeeded in passing laws that the people could no longer live with. It got to the point where even the simplest forms of discipline to one’s own child could land them in trouble with the law. The new laws had been in response to growing race and religion pressures. The last of these ordered the military in step in and arrest anyone who produced material against any other race or belief.
