Different Lessons - 1. Different Lessons

Different Lessons

David

You left me for dead,
A tree with out leaves in Spring.
No way to move on from this pain.
After you taught me all about love.
Then changed the lessons.

Now I’m trying to find myself,
When I had been ready,
Ready to enter the unknown,
With you I wasn’t afraid.
Then you became my one nightmare.

A cold that I couldn’t escape,
A sinking feeling that had to be fate.
But it was too deep for me,
I couldn’t move.
And was unable to breathe.

Arms that were warm and strong,
Became foreign and brittle,
You were a man when I met you,
Now you’re just a boy with dreams,
That never will include me.

Now I’ve forgotten my innocence,
Now I look over my shoulder.
My heart now that it’s colder,
I don’t want to protect it.
You taught me these lessons.

Lessons that should remain unlearned,
Trees shouldn’t die in the spring,
I should be able to move,
Looking straight ahead, trusting what’s behind.
But you taught me them, and I learned too well.

Aaron

I like this feeling,
I’m glad you shared it with me,
I never knew I could feel this way.
When I was afraid to.

Now the skies are blue,
Even when rain stings my face.
And I’m warm,
Even when I can see my breath in the air.

Time passes and I don’t hear the ticking,
And I have laughed after crying.
I’ve never been so unsure of myself,
And felt so calm.

I now feel the most alive,
Even in the most simple of things.
Mistakes will be made,
But I’m not afraid to make them.

I don’t care to look foolish,
As long as you’re the one laughing.
And I say I love you,
When you’re too far away to hear me.

I can’t see what’s to come,
But I’m happy with my reflection in your eyes.
I like this feeling,
I’m happy you shared it with me.

Chapter Comments

Excellent. A consideration of life and love. Love found and lost. And love found and cherished. Personified in the two men.

Life lessons are often paid for with hard reality.
