Hercules enslaved - 14. The revenge

With the help of kind-hearted villagers who provided him with food and shelter, Hercules had taken the time to recuperate and fortify himself, both physically and mentally, to prepare for the pursuit of the pirates. As he meticulously tracked down the cunning pirate captain and his crew. The demigod knew that the confrontation to come would require every ounce of his legendary strength and strategic prowess, and he was determined to be ready.

As the days passed, Hercules learned that Glaucetas and his men had docked their ship in a bustling seaport town, where they were indulging in a raucous celebration, flush with their unexpected riches. This was the opportunity the demigod had been waiting for. Hercules, adorned in a simple loincloth and sandals, with a short stagger in hand, stealthily made his way to the pirate ship in the cover of the night. To his surprise, as he quietly boarded the vessel, he found Glaucetas standing under the faint moonlight alone on the deck, as if he had been expecting the demigod's arrival. Hercules tensed, his muscles coiled, ready to spring into action. But just as he prepared to confront the captain, the scoundrel drew out a long, sinister-looking whip – one that was not made of ordinary leather, but a long chain of human spines interweaved that seemed to emanate a faint, otherworldly glow.

The captain's thin lips curled into a malevolent grin, as if he could sense the demigod's unease. "Surprised, Hercules?" he taunted, his grip tightening on the bone-white whip. "You think I would not buy myself some insurance for another encounter with you?”

The demigod's brow furrowed in confusion, for he had not been aware of this additional weapon in the captain's arsenal. It was then that a realization dawned on him – the pirate must have acquired this strange whip with the gold coins for selling him at the slave market.

Slowly waving the eerie looking whip, the pirate captain proclaimed with bold confidence, “This is no ordinary weapon – it has been imbued with the dark magic of a powerful sorcerer. And now, it shall be the instrument of your downfall!"

Without warning, the captain lashed out with the whip, the bone-white material crackling with an eerie energy as it cut through the air towards Hercules. The demigod's reflexes were lightning-fast, but even he was taken aback by the sheer speed and power of the weapon. As the whip wrapped around his forearm, the sharp bones biting into his muscle, Hercules felt a jolt of pure agony coursing through his body. The dark magic infused within the whip seemed to be sapping his strength, weakening his limbs and making his vision blur. Gritting his teeth against the pain, Hercules knew that he could not afford to underestimate this new threat. He had faced many formidable foes in his time, but the combination of the captain's cunning and the sorcerous nature of the whip presented a challenge unlike any he had encountered before.

Bracing himself, the demigod prepared to jerk the captain towards himself for a close quarter fight. But Glaucetas was both quick and cunning. He swiftly withdrew the whip and circled back with another lash, entangling Hercules’ neck with the devious weapon. Hercules refused to yield despite the crushing power of the sorcerous whip around his throat. As the pirate captain's triumphant laughter echoed across the deck, the demigod knew that he could not afford to succumb to the darkness that threatened to consume him. With a tremendous effort, Hercules pulled against the whip's grip, his fingers clawing frantically at the bony length that constricted his neck. But as the pieces of bones snapped tightly together, the crushing hold was merciless, and the demigod could feel the dark magic sapping his divine strength with every passing moment.

Sensing Hercules' growing desperation, the captain let out a cruel laugh and, in a sudden move, darted behind the towering demigod. With a swift kick to the back of Hercules' knees, the pirate captain sent the mighty hero staggering forward, his balance momentarily thrown off. Seizing the advantage, the captain with a swirling motion, wrapped more of the bony coils around Hercules' neck in a tightening spiral. The demigod let out a strangled gasp as the sharp bones dug into his flesh, the sorcerous power within it draining his strength at an alarming rate. The eerie greenish glow of the bone-white whip became brighter, as Hercules felt his godlike power slipping away. His limbs growing heavy as the dark magic worked its insidious influence. His head spun and his muscles became numb, the mighty Hercules succumbed to the dark magic and dropped onto his knees. The pirate captain stood behind him, his grip on the whip unwavering while he planted his foot firmly on Hercules’ back as leverage.

"Give in, Hercules," Glaucetas hissed, his voice dripping with malevolence. "The power of this whip from the underworld is too much for even you to overcome. You will be enslaved once more, a mere pawn in my plunder."

Hercules fought against the growing darkness that threatened to swallow him, his mind racing to find a way to break free from the whip's stranglehold. He knew that if he succumbed to the captain's will, he would be doomed to a fate worse than death – to be bound and subjugated to an evil worse than Demetrius.

Hercules is my favorite theme.  It sprang from my early fascination with sword and sandal movies from the 60s, where the muscle bound hero had to overcome monsters, sorcerers, sadistic kings/queens and the inevitable feat of strength challenges before he triumphed eventually.  I hope you like these stories too.  Comments and feedback welcome.
