Alarms - 1. Alarms

Alarm goes off, I get out of bed.
Go to school, work, go out of my head.
Always waiting, counting the minutes,
Then finally the day is finished.

Back to bed, slip under the blankets,
Suddenly eager, ready, anxious,
One little pill, one sip of water,
Back to the perfect world of slumber.

Alarm goes off, I drag myself up,
Prepare for the next push, the next snub.
Go to school, go to work, home again,
More mental bandages for the pain.

Another pill and turn off the lights,
Hoping for dreams to come through the night.
No taunts, no shoves, no harsh words to chafe.
In my dreaming life, I'm home, I'm safe.

Alarm goes off, jarring and raucous,
Morning routine, go out to the bus,
School and work, the same as every day,
What's the point of living this way?

But when I'm sleeping, while I'm dreaming,
When I'm there, I can be anything.
I can be the best, be strong, be free.
Most importantly, I can be me.

Alarm, I'm up: life changes today.
Skip work, skip school, got no time to play.
My plans are made, I've got things to do.
Say bye to people without a clue.

The stage is set, there's no last appeal.
Tonight, dreams will be forever real.
The car is running, the windows closed.

My little cup of pills calls.
