The Sin Pot - 1. Chapter 1

The Sin Pot

We gathered in front of the old Gothic church.
In a giant clay vessel, our leader lit the fire.
With a prayer and a blessing, the sun set and the flames grew hire.
We each wrote down our sins and gathered forming two lines.
Two by two we walked down the unpaved isle.
We looked at each other, friend at friend, child at mother,
husband at wife, sister at brother, you at me, and I at you.
We put our lists in the fire two by two.

The white paper burned and the smoke floated away.
With the barrier removed, people reunited.
The couple before us kissed, their passions no longer divided.
Then we approached together. I burned my anger and my lies.
You may have burned the same, in its white paper disguise.
Our hearts were pure; our intentions true,
as you burned me and I burned you.
The bitter black smoke reached for the heavens but our leader fanned it away.
He knew that we were gay.
