2011 - Spring - People Are Strange Entry

The Last Toast! - 1. The 'IT'

Jeremy wanted to die…

You see, in the end, it doesn’t really matter!

In the vast and deep ocean of 6 billion filthy creatures, no one will notice if his insignificant presence ceases to exist. No one will bother if his body rots in the murky waters of the gutter along with the carcasses of poisoned rodents; just like no one cared or bothered, or to be more precise, understood (or even tried to), how his mind, his heart, his conscience, his love, his emotions, his intellect and his whole purpose of having a life has been rotting for decades.

He thought to himself, ‘The world must come to an end, Enough is enough! Every two legged bastard must climb on top of the Empire State Building, and for God’s sake, jump!’.

Grabbing the last peg of cheap whiskey, he promised to himself that he should start this noble act--

In his heart, he felt responsible for cleaning up the mess created by the human race for thousands of years.

Erase the history of torture and cruelty that started long before Romans could see the light of civilization; annihilate the natural instinct of rape, murder, violence, betrayal and treachery that was embedded in every human soul. It was his responsibility to take charge to show them… show the world that humanity still exists: Mankind still has hope!

And the only way to revive that hope is to destroy the whole existence of it! Destroy all the evidence of inhumanity since the day when Adam had bitten the bloody apple, pinned Eve down, and fucked her like a mad dog!

And, then start afresh…

A new day… A golden dawn…

Birds will fly, butterflies will sing, chimpanzees will dance and then there will be a new set of Adam and Eve to start all over again --- in a better way!

So he stood up, with half his body leaning over the counter, his left hand trying desperately to hold something in a firm grip, he murmured, “Next stop, Empire State Building. Someone needs to set an example!”

And then suddenly, he felt like the room was spinning, faster than the Earth, or the Sun, even faster than a damn Pulsar… He couldn’t feel his legs, seemed like there was no ground beneath his feet – “Is it time already? Is this the end?”

But, by then it was too late…

He could see the world turning upside down in front of his eyes – bottles started breaking, glasses being shattered, high stools trying to do the Tango in a peculiar style… And then there was blood…

“Is it blood? My blood?!”

Then he saw the floor turning over and hit him hard.

A blinding pain in the head… then there was darkness…

The darkness took him and he thought he heard a faint familiar voice coming from the other side of the universe;

“Leave him, son of a bitch is dead drunk… Again!!”

Hahah! This was a good taster of your skills. A story this short is a hard one! I think it captured well the selfpity that comes to the surface when staring the bottom of the bottle for too long. Do write more!
Thanks Maria. :) yeah, that feeling of self-pity comes from what philosophers call... ummmm... experience - both personal and second hand... ;)
