Welcome to Your Eternity - 1. Welcome to Your Eternity

Short Stories

By Lugh

Standing outside the pearly gates, waiting for admittance, I consider my life and think, "How boring." Saint Peter comes up to me with the keys in his hand, "Welcome to Heaven, your destination for Eternity. You have been Judged and found worthy to enter," he says as he unlocks the gates and bids me to proceed through.

Hesitantly I step through and look around. Incorporeal beings, such as I now find myself to be, gather around various things of their interest. I find myself marveling at the streets of gold and the many houses that line the streets. Cherubim approach me in a group; one has a clipboard.

"Welcome to Eternity, we have for you your assignments." The one with the clipboard hands me a sheet of paper, "to housing and other important scheduling. Please try not to be late to the praise and worship sessions, we don't want to make the rocks cry out."

"There is a map on the back, enjoy your Eternity," a second called out before the group left me alone there with the paper in hand.

I wandered around looking at the people who I would be spending eternity with, gazing at the map occasionally until I find my housing assignment. It is generous, too generous as there is only one of me. There are so few people here... Absently I wonder where my family is... why they were not there to greet me... then I realize -- In heaven, all the interesting people are missing.
