The End of An Era - 1. Poem

The End of an Era

By WL

My time has ended

Yet I am alive and young

Why do I feel dead and old?

Tick Tock! Tick Tock!

Time doesn’t stop

Progress knows no bounds

I see a world full of wonders

Yet I hear no joyful sounds

My heart aches to feel

No man will offer sympathy

Our lives are too full

Things and goods, man consumes

Yet, they consume us in turn

Leaving an empty world of objects

Where is God? Where is our Messiah?

Man has killed him twice before

Once with a Cross

Only to be reborn by a memory of fallen hopes

Through words and books for a noble mind

With rather little to offer my kind

Once with neglect

Only to be recreated by a guise for idiotic dopes

Through glorious temples and electronic testaments

Showing for their faith only dollar signs

Now, we are at the third death of God

We no longer care for prayer

For man has reached this new age beyond hope or fools

The world has changed

Another era of man has dawned

Hatred is dying

Fools are dying

Yet, the emptiness and loneliness of man remains

Eternal and infinite in this new age

For love is cheapened without hate

For knowledge is deprived without fools

And I have lost faith
