Reflections - 1. The Rose

A short poem written about a friend.

A Rose, a flower, a gift from earth of beauty untold

Its gentle smell and delicate frills tell us all

This is a splendor alone to behold.

Pink, a colour, an attitude of peace,

When one feels safe, and always at ease

This symbol of hope in world of war

Makes me think of days of happiness and joy.

A friend, a companion, a shoulder to lean on,

Something we seem to take for granted

Till distance does take us apart,

But through all this, true friendship is like a rose

Dressed in pink, for all too see.

It is proud and defiant and says “Look at me”,

For even am I gone, a memory holds me.

So even now, you’re in my thoughts

My little pink Rose even time cannot thwart

And though I may not see you, I know you will blossom,

Forever in your glory, whole in your bloom.
