  1. Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend. Just a reminder that tomorrow is the CSR Discussion day of The Rainy Day by Graeme. Now, with that reminder, let's see what happened in the GA News Blog this last week. For our featured story, Timothy M provided us with a review of Prophylaxis. Wednesday, Cia took over the blog to discuss something that had once again struck the site: Plagiarism. Cia gives some great tips on how to search for your story to make sure it's not posted anywhere that you didn't authorize. All authors should definitely check this post out. Friday, Comicfan brought new prompts to the blog. Want to see what prompt responses were written? Comicfan provided snippets from all of them. Last, but not least, we had a Saturday post this week in which Cia announced A Grim Fairytale by K.C. as the October Signature Background. Anthology Announcements: ***NOTE: All Deadlines are for submission to the Anthology Proof Team** 2015 Winter Anthology: Blackout - Due December 3rd By our Promoted Authors: The Degan Paradox by Rob Colton; Book 3 of Galactic Conspiracies *Premium* Toy Soldiers by Dabeagle Gay Metal by carringtonrj Innocence & Carnality by Mann Ramblings Destiny - a novel by AC Benus Sword of Kings: Tempered by Fate by Bill W Book 3 of Sword of Kings Avery & Matt shorts by craftingmom A prompt a week by comicfan Lie of the Serpent by craftingmom Reece's Choiceby Renee Stevens Twenty-Two Early Poems by AC Benus; Book 3 of Verse Cosmic Inception by Cia Lost & Found by aditus Don't forget.... 2. It appears that Renee is living up to her name this past week and is actually being a Crazy Mountain Lady. So if you were looking for her, you need to look up in the Mountains to find out where she is being crazy First thing I want to do is an announcement for all. Make sure you don't forget to read Graeme's "The Rainy Day" short story for this month's CSR Discussion Day taking place Monday, September 28th. He'll be answering your questions on the blog at 6 PM New Zealand time (GMT-13) so make sure you get your questions in early if that's not a convenient time for you! Starting off last week Cia brought us a new Featured Story for the week. Rob Colton's Noah's New Plan was this weeks story. Cia asked several of our Members to provide some reviews that were accumulated and all included in the blog to entice your reading! Kind of different to see various peoples' opinions about one story. Tuesday had Myr take over the blog and give us the information about the new Political Forum called The Pit. This is a place that has been designated to discuss topics such as politics that have previously not been allowed on site except for the blogs. There are some strict ground rules and you do have to buy a $0.00 membership to post. Hoping it will keep the highly controversial topics off the rest of the site. Wednesday was a great Interview with the author of Noah's New Plan; Rob Colton. A bit different interview in that Cia asked him about his Wednesday Briefers flash group. I know many of our Authors participate in them, and it is great to see Rob has put out some great stories, and more to come, using this method. Friday, the prompt Guru Comicfan posted directly to the blog for Prompt Me! The first prompt was a creative one using the words; notebook, pen, coffee, a crystal and a broken light bulb. The second one was using the tag of The Gift. Check out both of them and hopefully will get the creative juices flowing. Finally Wayne shared not 1, nor 2, or 3, but 10 briefs of different authors contributions to the prompts. Lots of them to check out this week. 3. We're going to get right up into the wrap up this week, and guess what, we're even going to go backwards! Have you been looking for something new to read? Something short maybe? With the release of the 2015 Fall Anthology, you have 16 brand new stories to check out. If you check Thursday's blog entry, you'll find links to all of them. Don't forget to leave the authors a review to let them know how much you appreciate their work. Have you thought about doing a story review for the blog? Maybe you just don't know how to go about it? Or maybe you even wonder if it is open for everyone. Any member of the site can write a blog review, and if you're looking for guidelines, make sure you check out Wednesday's post! The Rainy Day by Graeme was announced on Monday as this month's CSR choice. At 7,598 words, it should be a quick read and hopefully the Discussion on September 28th will have lots of participants. 4. Sorry for the lateness of today's wrap up. Since I'm running so late, let's get right to it today. On Monday we had the CSR Discussion day for Becoming Real by AC Benus. AC also joined us on the blog for a live Q & A. There were some great questions asked. If you missed it, go see what readers had to ask and what AC had to say! Wednesday was this month's Ask An Author feature. Dark had questions for Andrew Todd, Sasha Distan, and Headstall. It was a busy day for commenters! Curious as to what they were asked, and what their answers were? It's not too late to go check it out. Thursday was a Special Anthology Announcement day where I announced the themes for the 2016 Anthologies as well as announcing a special anthology for next year. We finished out the week with new prompts from the prompt guru, Comicfan. For the featured story, we featured one of last week's prompt responses by Puppilull. 5. I hope everyone has had a great weekend! Don't forget that the deadline to submit your anthology entries to the Anthology Proof Team is just a few days away. All entries need to be to the proof team no later than September 3rd to give the team time to proof your story and get it back to you. Also, don't forget that tomorrow (August 31st) is the CSR Discussion Day for Becoming Real by AC Benus. AC will be live on the blog from 7-9 PM eastern. Now, let's take a look at what happened this past week. If you're looking for a new story to read, check out Monday's review. Atruefan has shared his thoughts regarding Future Imperfect by Bill W. If you've never read anything by Bill, at just over 3,500 words, Future Imperfect would be a great one to get you started! For the Wednesday blog, we took a look at Premium Stories. If you'd like to help support the site and keep it going, a Premium membership may be the way to go. Not only do you help the site, but you get access to some great stories, including Rob Colton's newest story in the Galactic Conspiracies series, The Degan Paradox. Friday brought a couple of new prompts meant to inspire you. Instead of only sharing one of the prompt responses, we shared the first few lines from all prompt responses posted since last Friday. Hopefully you found something you enjoyed! But wait, the week wasn't over yet! Cia took over the blog on Saturday to bring us the Signature Background for September. This coming month, we're featuring Noah's New Plan by Rob Colton. If you haven't already done so, make sure to download the background! 6. I hope everyone had a great weekend. As we get ready to start a new week, it's time to take a look back at what happened this past week in the GA News Blog. There was a lot of great things going on, and if you haven't already checked out the past week's post, now is the chance for you to get a glimpse and maybe go read up on the posts you missed. We started out the week with a review of JohnAR's story MetaOrigins. If you haven't already checked out Puppilull's review, then what are you waiting for? You might just add the story to your reading list. Tuesday brought an anthology announcement that the voting for the 2016 Anthology Themes is now open. You have until September 2nd to get your votes in. After that, I'll be announcing the four themes for next year and also have a special announcement for next year. (Oh c'mon, I gotta build up the anticipation somehow!) Wednesday we took a look back at a previous writing tip that was supplied to us by Libby Drew. Have you ever wondered whether conflict is necessary in your story? Well, Libby answers your question! Once again, we finished out the week with some new prompts. Hopefully they'll spark some ideas and we'll see some new prompt responses before next week. This week we featured a response by Aditus. 7. Wow, what a great week. Hoping the weather was great where you are, we hit 3 record breaking days for the past 10 years here so enjoying being indoors for a while and working on the wrap up. First off, the voting for the first round picking the 2016 Anthology Themes is now closed. A very big thank you to everyone who contributed to narrowing down the number of great ideas. GA relies on you the Members to help drive the direction of these special events, and sincerely appreciates your input. The week started off with the blog reviewing our Feature Story. This week it focused on our month's Signature Author, Dolores Esteban's story Cold Case. Cia contributed a great review which has now piqued my interest and I have added it to my reading list. Also there is the link where you can download the Signature Background for the month as well. Check the story out and make sure you leave a review. Wednesday was a followup with Interview Wednesday with Dolores Esteban. Dolores agreed to sit down in the dark and dank interview room at GA, with a single light shining in her face, a dripping noise coming from the corner, handcuffed to the table and the smell of second hand smoke in the room....okay, got carried away there . Cia asked Dolores some interesting questions including where she got the inspiration for Cold Case. Surprising to me, Cold Case spun out of a Prompt Friday prompt from Comicfan. Great to see that what started as a prompt response turned into a full story. Friday, Cia took over the blog for Friday's Prompt Me. Comicfan this week presented us with two different prompts. First Creative prompt was for all the Anne Rice or Stephanie Meyers fans out there; Vampires. If you think you can do better than the two them, why don't you give a stab at upstaging them . The second one was creative as well with using the following words; a clown, a motorcycle, vacation tickets, chocolate cake, and a ring. Sounds like a good horror story theme. Lastly, Cia featured James Savik's response to Prompt 437. Great job James!! 8. I hope everyone has had a great week so far. Before we get to this week's wrap up, I'd like to remind everyone that the first round of voting for the 2016 Anthology Themes is currently going on. Voting is open until August 15th at 11:59 pm MST. There hasn't been too many votes as of yet, so if you haven't voted, go to the Anthology Forum and vote! Whether you're a reader or author, we'd love to have you vote. If you're a reader, vote for the themes you'd like to read about or the ones that might inspire you to try your hand at writing. If you're an author, vote for the themes you'd like to write about! Now, lets see what happened this week in the blog! We started our week off with the announcement that AC Benus' story Becoming Real is this month's CSR choice. If you haven't already done so, you have until the 31st to read it so that you can participate in the CSR Discussion. In other news, on Thursday, AC Benus was announced as our newest Promising Author! Dark's feature, Ask An Author, returned on Wednesday with some great questions for AC Benus (who was very popular this week in the blog), Ricky, and Wanda Walker. Check out their questions and answers! Friday gave us brand new prompts. This week we had the newest poetry prompt on top of the regular two new prompts. Check them out and see if any spark an idea. For our features, we had a prompt response by JohnAR and a poetry prompt response by Headstall. 9. I'm going to get right into the wrap up, but this week we're going backwards and starting with Saturday. If you haven't already done so, make sure to go and vote in Round 1 of the 2016 Anthology Theme Voting. This first round of voting will go from now until August 15th. We had two Saturday posts this week, the second one was the August Signature Background announcement. This month we're looking at Cold Case by Dolores Esteban. Friday brought two brand new prompts and a prompt feature of Cazpedroso. This past Wednesday we had a Grammar Rodeo from Cia which was sort of a part 2 from last weeks Grammar Rodeo. These are very informative and hopefully everyone checks them out. We started the week out Monday with the CSR Discussion of Frozen Heart by Dianjin. It's not too late to go and share your thoughts on the story! 10. Hope everyone has had a great weekend so far. It's almost time to start a new week, but before we do that, we get to look back at what happened this past week. Also, don't forget that we're currently taking theme suggestions for the 2016 Quarterly Anthologies. If you have an idea that you think would make a great theme, don't forget to share it in the Anthology Forum topic. Please make sure to read the theme guidelines in the first post. To start our week off, Valkyrie provided us with a review of AC Benus' story "Bound and Bound: The Curse and the Captives". If you haven't already read Valkyrie's review, check it out. For our Wednesday post, Cia provided us with a new grammar rodeo. These grammar posts are a great help and I recommend everyone check them out. There's always new stuff to learn! After last weeks "Second Chance Prompts", this week we brought back the regular prompts! For our featured story, we featured Greg_A's take on one of the prompts from last week. 11. Sorry all, I'm a little behind on the wrap up for this week! It's time to look back at what happened this past week, but before we do that, a quick reminder. The 2016 Anthology Theme selection is going on now. If you have a suggestion for next years themes, please post them in the 2016 Theme Suggestion thread! However, please read the quidelines I've posted. Now, let's get on to the Wrap Up! This past Monday started the Signature Week off with a review of Adam Phillips' story Crosscurrents. Tyler gave us a great review and based on the comments, I'd say many of the members agreed with his take on the story. We continued our Signature Week on Wednesday with an interview Cia did with Adam Phillips. We learned a lot about Adam and I hope you enjoyed his answers as much as I did. Friday was prompt day, but we did something a bit different. Rather than doing two new prompts, we decided to give some other prompts a second chance to be noticed. For our featured story, we featured Valkyrie's short story response to Prompt #431. Wednesday, as a treat, I provided a new word search for you to have fun with. It's a bit bigger than the other ones so it might take a little longer. Friday was our regular prompt day, though this week we also posted the new poetry prompt. We had two features, one was by RomanRomaan and the other was by craftingmom. 13. I hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July. We went to the stock car races, watched 2 fires burning, and then watched the fireworks. How did you spend your 4th of July? For those who don't celebrate the 4th, how did you spend your Saturday? While you contemplate answering that question, here's what happened this past week on the GA News Blog: Monday was the CSR Discussion Day for Where Life Takes Us By Kuragari129. Cia did an interview with Kuragari, and then the comments were opened up for readers to ask their own questions. Myr took over on Tuesday to bring us a blog about tagging. He's given some great advice and I've even started using the tagging system for the GA News Blog. Wednesday was this months Ask An Author feature from Dark. These entries are great because they give the members a chance to ask their favorite authors a question, without having to ask it themselves. Friday once again gave us a couple of new prompts from Comicfan. For the featured prompt response, I chose to feature Valkyrie's response to prompt #426. Don't forget that tomorrow, Monday the 29th is the CSR Discussion for Where Life Takes Us by Kuragari. Also, another reminder, the theme selection for the 2016 Quarterly Anthologies will open on July 1st, so make sure to get your thinking caps on and post some suggestions once the topic opens. On Monday, we had a review of Twisted_Dreemz story Denn's Mobile Circus. The review was provided to us by AC Benus. Tuesday, Myr took over the blog for his Tech Tuesday. This week he talked about the drop in forum usage as well as discussing the forum layouts. He also asked for suggestions regarding what the members think we should do to help solve the drop in forum usage. Wednesday, Graeme took over the blog with a list he compiled of stories that are about Marriage. If you're looking for something to read, these would be great for you. Friday brought us two new prompts from the prompt guru. For the featured prompt response, we featured an older prompt done by Dolores Esteban. Saturday, Cia joined us on the blog to announce the July Signature Author Background, Crosscurrents by Adam Phillips. If you haven't already done so, you can go and download the background that was created for Adam's story. Bulletin ..................... Bulletin ..................... There's also all the information you need if you'd like to become a premium member. Tuesday, Myr took over the blog to share some site info and ask for suggestions from members to help increase participation in the forums. Have an idea? Go read the blog and leave a comment. Wednesday, I announced some changes for the 2016 Anthologies as well as giving a heads up as to when the 2016 theme selection will start. 16. Renee's off enjoying some family time in the summer sun, so today you're getting the weekly wrap up from me! This is a crazy busy time of year for me too, as summer returns and the kids get out of school. This month we have a lot going on at GA with the summer anthology, our Gay Pride Month contest, and the general shenanigans happening. Let's see all the happenings this week: On Monday I reviewed the featured Signature Author story, Crash Landing, by Bill W. This story was written as part of the 2011 Aftermath anthology, and it really took me in directions I wasn't expecting. Have you read it yet? Wednesday let us learn more about Bill W in his author interview. Did you know he identifies with the underdog and originally came to GA upon a personal invitation from Myr, way back in the day? Learn more about Bill and Crash Landing by checking out the interview here. The Gayauthor's Summer Anthology, Road Trip went live on Thursday and has remained our featured blog entry for the last few days. This anthology saw stories from 8 site authors including Aditus, Renee Stevens, Cole Matthews, Valkyrie, Comicfan, Krista, Cia, and Carlos Hazday. Special thanks go to the proof team: Rec, Andy78, Valkyrie and Cia, plus Mann Ramblings for his great anthology banner, and AJ for his invaluable tech help getting the anthology live! Bulletin ..................... Bulletin ..................... Bulletin Wow, everyone's been ripping right through these! Are you playing along with the scramble contest? Well you should be! You can go back and hit weeks 1 & 2 if you haven't already, but then enjoy this week's scramble. 17. Hope everyone has had a great weekend! This past week wasn't near as busy as the last, but there was still plenty going on. The deadline for the 2015 Summer Anthology has now passed and we are working to get the anthology ready to go live. We'll also soon start the 2016 Anthology theme selection, so start thinking about what you'd like to write about for next year. Cia took the opportunity on Monday to announce this month's CSR selection. If you haven't already read Where Life Takes Us By Kuragari and want to participate in the discussion, you have until June 29th to read the story. Seeing as how this past Wednesday was the first one of the month, we had our monthly Ask An Author feature provided to us by Dark. Some great questions and answers, so make sure to check it out. 18. Wow, what a busy week here at the GA News Blog. I don't have time to be my witty self today We had one of our busiest weeks since we went to our new format. Monday we kicked off the week with the CSR Discussion Day with the Author of Penguin joining everyone in the blog for a live chat. Valkyrie participated in a grueling interview with Cia earlier where we learned Valkyrie dressed up for the questions in a pair of jeans and a purple t-shirt . Several Members weighed in later in the day to ask her some questions which she very promptly answered. We took a breather before Wednesday when a popular feature reared its ugly head (notice no apostrophe in its) The Grammar Rodeo #4 appeared where Cia tried to convince everyone that grammar is fun . Although the blog was meant to feature Singular and Plural Subject/Verb Agreements, this lead to interesting lessons on different topics including its versus it's. Make sure to check out all the other topics brought up in the discussion. Fun, eh? Thursday we had a Special Announcement where craftingmom was named as our newest Promising Author. There is now two pages of Congratulations in that blog if you want to add your name, or, you can visit the Forum Announcement too. Friday we rounded up the week with the Prompt Guru Comicfan presenting this weeks Prompts. Two new ones were presented; Creative First Line of 'He put his hand where?', and one with the tag 'The Interview'. Finally in recognition of craftingmom's promotion, Cia featured her Prompt response from the week before. Usually that would be enough, right? Well no, we didn't stop there!! Saturday we learned that the Signature Author of the Month will be Bill W and his story Crash Landing. Also included was a quick accolade from Foster as well as the desktop background. Make sure you download it for the month of June. Bulletin ..................... Bulletin ..................... Bulletin The month of June here at Gay Authors we are celebrating Pride Month. 19. Sorry for the delay this morning y'all. I hope everyone has had a great week. Just a reminder that tomorrow, Monday the 25th will be the CSR Discussion for Penguin by Valkyrie. If you haven't finished yet, there's still time so that you can come and ask Valkyrie your questions at 8-10 PM eastern time. Now, let's see what happened in the GA News Blog during this past week. Monday's feature story was Gaymer by Dabeagle. If you're looking for a new story that isn't too long, this could be the story for you. If you're curious and need help deciding, check out the review, it may just make you want to add this little gem to your "to read" list. Wednesday our focus shifted to story tagging. 20. Renee is away for the weekend attending a wedding. Since she isn't here, you are all stuck with me. Let me say that for a small fee, I will be selling pictures of Renee in her Bridesmaid dress On Monday for our Featured Story, it was for our Signature Author for the month of May, Krista. We had her 2008 Anthology "Finding Alex" featured. Suvitar wrote a great review of this story and I believe enticed a few of us to go back and read it for the first time or maybe the second or third times. One interesting part of Suvitar's review was her second last sentence; "This is one of those stories where characters and the plot left me wanting more." Well, in a departure from the usual way of doing things for the Signature Author Wednesday Post, Krista took some time to write us a great Extended Scene to give us a glimpse at what happened after the story concluded. Quite a few of us were brought to tears with this gripping look into the future. One last thing about Krista, does anyone know what 232 days is to her? Friday was another couple of prompts from the ever popular Prompt Me! Comicfan supplied us with another two to get our creative juices flowing over the weekend. This week the first Creative prompt was Bombshell. I'm sure we have all lived though one of those. The second Creative prompt was to feature the first line; "But why would you want me to meet you there?" In addition, Renee featured a sample of two of the previous weeks prompts as penned by John AR as well as Atruefan. 21. First off, let me start by saying to all the mother's out there.... HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! I hope you all have a wonderful day. Also, just a reminder that there is less than a month to get your Summer Anthology entries sent to the Anthology Proof Team. The team is standing by, ready to complete your final proof. The theme for the Summer Anthology is Road Trip. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! Now, let's see what happened this week in the GA News Blog. Our May CSR Book Club story was announced on Monday. This month we're taking a look at Penguin by Valkyrie. At under 15,000 words, there is still plenty of time to take a look at this great story and be prepared for the discussion day on May 25th. For those who enjoy the Ask An Author feature by Dark, Wednesday was the day for you. This month's Ask An Author featured Mark Arbour, Andrew Q. Gordon, and Rob Colton. There were some great questions asked of these authors and if you want to know what their answers were, make sure to check it out! Friday brought some brand new prompts for you to play with. Not only were there the regular prompts provided by Comicfan, but this week we also had the next Poetry Prompt given to us by AC Benus. For the featured prompt responses, we took a look at Cazpedroso's response to prompt #412 and totallyy's response to Poetry Prompt #8. 22. We started the week out with the CSR Discussion on Rumors of War by Cynus. There was a great interview and then Cynus joined us in the blog to answer readers questions. Wednesday had us looking once more at grammar, with Grammar Rodeo #3. If "affect" and "effect" or "ellipses and em dash's" confuse you, then make sure to check out Cia's Grammar Rodeo. It's full of great information on how to determine which to use. On Thursday, Cia posted the May Signature Background. This month's feature is Finding Alex by Krista. If you haven't already done so, go download the background! If you're looking for some inspiration, check out the brand new prompts that were posted on Friday. For the featured prompt response, I featured Atruefan's response to Prompt #410. 23. Hoping everyone here has a super week! With the release of the 2015 Poetry Anthology it's time to start looking forward to the 2015 Summer Anthology and the 2015 Fall Anthology. Pop by the Anthology Forum for all the details, the theme for the Summer Anthology is Road Trip! This week we're going to go a little bit backwards in our look back at the week. Friday of this week we put aside the Prompts for a week as we had a much awaited Anthology, the 2015 Poetry Anthology! There is four entries from four different authors. Don't forget to leave the authors a review to let them know what you think! Working backwards again..... Wednesday was a fun day with the 2nd of the Word Searches brought to us by Renee. Although inundating to look at the first time with all those letters, somehow you will find a lot of the sites Promising Authors hiding within. Monday started off the week with Savory, Bitter and Sweet by Percy as the Featured Story of the week. TimothyM shared with us his review of a story that caught his attention and wanted to share it with all. If you are looking for something new to read, why not give it a look. 24. I hope everyone had a great week! I think today I'm going to get right into the Wrap Up for the week. Monday and Wednesday were all about Andy78, the author of Magic In The Air, which just so happens to be this month's Signature Author Background. On Monday, Cia wrote a review for the story and then on Wednesday she interviewed Andy78. If you haven't already checked them out, they're sitting there waiting. Friday brought us a couple of new prompts from the prompt guru Comicfan. This week he gave us a word list and another prompt having to do with Spring. Unable to choose which prompt to feature, I did a short feature of all the prompt responses that had been written for Prompt #208. 25. I hope everyone has had a great week and a great weekend. It's time to take a look at what happened in the GA News Blog over the last week. Also, a huge Thank You to Cia and Wildone both for their help with the blog last week while I was so sick. On Monday, Cia took over the blog to announce this month's CSR choice. If you haven't already started one of the three listed stories, I'd suggest you start now so you can join in on the discussion that will happen on April 27th. Tuesday, Wildone took over the blog to talk about the Forum Moderation Team and how it works, as well as sharing some insights on Former Members. There is a lot of great info in this blog on how things are decided and it's well worth the read. Thursday, Cia shared with us Grammar Rodeo #2. There was a pasting issue, but as soon as the readers informed Cia, she quickly got it fixed. It was a great writing tip regardless and all authors should take a moment to peruse it. Friday was a great day for prompts, as always. Not only did we have the latest prompts from Comicfan, but AC Benus supplied us with Poetry Prompt #8. We also featured two prompt responses this week, a poetry response from Jamessavik and a regular prompt response from Carlos Hazday.
