  3. Well the Great White North is living up to it's name this week. Snow hurricanes in St John's, and in Atlantic Canada. Huge amounts of snow have fallen in central parts and the the Prairies have been gripped all week in -40 weather. Even the nice green lower mainland of BC is covered in snow and the travel is not recommended. Still, Australia is burning in some areas and other areas next door are flooding. Okay, the localized weather forecast is completed and I really should get to wrapping this week up Maybe I should talk about letting me be the GA Weather Person. He'll have to invest in a green screen for me to stand in front of. On Monday, Renee brought us a new feature, a Signature Feature Then on Wednesday, Renee was back with a feature on letting us know about the upcoming Spring Anthology Friday, comicfan was back again with a couple of more prompts. 808 and 809 in fact. 4. Well I'm in a good mood I just finished watching a hockey game that came out the right way I don't know about you, but do you come to GA for a mood change? What am I talking about? Well this week has had me thinking about a lot of things, Australia burning, Eastern North America in tornadoes, rain and freezing rain. The Royal family in turmoil (okay, so I like the Royal Family, shoot me ). A passenger plane accidentally being shot down in Iran and 100's of lives lost. With that all going on, I think about it but I also make a point of coming to GA to check in on some positive engagement week after week. Stories, Blogs, Status Updates, Clubs, and so much more. So do you come to GA to escape some of the real life that we all deal with day to day? Speaking of blogs, on Monday, Cia had the first CSR Feature of the year. Wednesday, Renee got our Sherlock Holmes caps and pipes brought out for the Author Guess Who. Who do you think it is? Friday Wayne was back with a couple of new prompts to get you writing. Saturday, Myr featured a blog about where GA is heading in 2020: And don't forget to check out the Words of the Day from the week. How would you feel if someone called you a farceur ? 5. So shall we start with a weather update Today was the first day this week where it didn't snow. And it was cold 🥶 I'm thinking my Australian and Southern Hemisphere friends need to have a visitor Anyone has a couch I can borrow for a month or two? Shall we look at the Weekly Renee Wrap Up this week. Someone was busy Monday, Renee brought us a Featured Story from @mollyhousemouse on a story by @Mikiesboy Wednesday, who wants to have some fun with Author Guess Who? Thursday brought us all a new releases on the Fall Anthologies Any guesses on how we did the past week on the goals? 6. It looks like this will be the last weekly update before Christmas 🎅. So what constitutes a white Christmas you ask? In Canada it is 2 cm (.79 inch) of snow on the ground at 7 AM on Christmas Day, the US is 2.5 cm (1 inch) and the UK it is one snowflake observed falling anywhere in the UK . Obviously there is parts of the world that won't see or ever see a white Christmas, mainly most areas of the Southern Hemisphere. I'm also thinking about our friends in Australia that are fighting sever fires across a lot of New South Wales . No matter if it is a white Christmas or not in your neck of the woods, on behalf of myself and all the staff here at GA, we wish you in the spirit of season, a Very Merry Christmas!! Even if you don't celebrate know that this means we are wishing you well and hope that you get the opportunity to have some great times between now and the New Year with family, friends, and everyone that makes our lives so rich every day of the year. Now question for you all, are you expecting a white Christmas? Me, the forecast is up in the air. We are supposed to get snow tomorrow, but we've had rain and fog the past two days. Yet an hour West, they are in the midst of getting 1 m (39.37 inches) in 24 hours 😮 So onto the blog this week, shall we? Monday, Cia brought us the December Classic Author Feature. Wednesday Cia was back again with the Classic Author Feature Excerpt. Thursday saw Renee wrapping up the fall Anthology, and not too early, as Saturday is the last day of fall in the North, beginning of the summer in the South. Myr then popped in on Friday with some holiday joy in his year in review for everyone here at GA! I'm so proud to be a part of the world's premier gay literature site which is really made by all of you. Poets, Authors, Editors, Beta Readers, and all the Readers are what make it what it is . 7. Like in Independence Day....Hello Boys! I'm baaaaaaaack Well, also you gurls, actually everyone! Thank you Renee for taking my place last week So I'm dried out from last weekend, which is a good thing! Last weekend I was at a football game, outdoors and it was hovering around 0C or 32F. Quite pleasant football weather (oh, North American Football I should say). Now this weekend, -30C or -22F, and I'm not enjoying this weather 😠 I'm thinking of all of you in Florida, or Australia or elsewhere sunny and tropical (not LA this weekend 🥶). So without any further chit chat, lets get to the wrap up so I can crawl back into my warm bed, fire up the iPad and get down to some serious reading! Monday it was time to have our CSR Discussion Day for the month of November: Onto Wednesday and we had the reveal of the mystery person in the Author Guess Who: Thursday my Christmas wish came true when Myr sneaked in and let us know about the new Reading History. I've been asking for this for decades! Okay, that may be a bit of a lie . But I know a lot have been asking for this and now it is a reality Then there was the really, really, really big news, something to get excited about here at GA! 8. Not really much of a preamble out of me tonight. I will give everyone a heads up that Renee will be returning next week to do the Weekly Wrap up for me, as I know for a fact that I will be indisposed one week from tonight 🍻 🍹 🍷 So be gentle to with her, and especially you, @Valkyrie, if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say it at all. That should apply to you regarding me but for some reason I know it will be a freezing cold day in hell when that happens On Monday, Cia popped in with a Featured Story: Then Tuesday, Renee came by with what is turning into a popular blog, Author Guess Who: On Thursday, Myr was bringing us all the 2nd of the 3 installments of a past Anthology : Also on Thursday, Myr told us about the Story Archive update and a really neat new feature: On Friday, Wayne was by with some new prompts for you to run away with: Now for our weekly check in on how we did on our goals last week. 9. Every week we have different blogs featured here on the GA News Blog. For the past month and a half, Thursdays have been used to feature a past Anthology or Contest with new stories from that feature spread out over a month. This blog is done by the omnipotent one, the big kahuna, the big cheese, the master of all, the seerer of all things GA, aka @Myr Well I didn't happened to notice this past Thursday that Myr's anthology blog wasn't featured on Thursday 😮 and not until Thursday night. Then on Friday I featured @comicfan's previous weeks Prompt Blog instead of this weeks So I thought I would get ahead of all the other Admins Resume for Steve Wildone Looking for work as an online community Admin. I am a 51 year old, washed up, and over the hill former Admin at a large gay writing site. Assets I believe I have are a great sense of humour and more than a 100 Chicken Crossing the Road jokes that I'm willing to share. Areas to work on include spelling, punctuation and grammer, even though I worked at a writing site. I tend to be forgetful of late. I have over 100 Chicken Crossing the Road jokes that I'm willing to share. Looking for at least 3 times my compensation at my previous site. References and more information available upon request. So shall I do my last wrap up? Monday, Cia held a CSR Discussion: And on the eve of Halloween, Cia was back with a list of Scary Short Stories! Then on Thursday, it actually did happen, Myr looked back at a Halloween Contest from 2017: On Friday, we finally got the right Prompts posted We had a great week at meeting our goals this past week! 11. Today is a day that I was not looking forward to If you look at the little pictures at the top of this blog, you will see who has posted in this blog, and how many times, I have been dreading this day for about six months, maybe more. I told Renee that it would be hard to surpass Trebs and move ahead of him on this blog. So who is Trebs? For those of you that have joined over the last five years here on GA, Trebs or Robert, was a Admin and on the board of CDEJR Services, he was the R. We lost Trebs to cancer just over 5 years ago. I wanted to pay tribute to a great man, and a friend that was there when I needed him, and was there for so many more in his life. He was the epitome of what we would expect to have in a friend. Loyal, caring, great listener, someone with sage advice and always fun to have in our lives as well. He, I believe was planning ahead for the inevitable when he asked me to come on as an admin from my previous role as a moderator. Although he never said it, he seemed to be giving me advice over the time from when I became an admin to his passing. Sadly, we don't always get to say a proper goodbye to our friends. Although he choose to pass quietly, I fully respect his decision. I can't help but feel that Trebs was one of the cornerstones of our current GA community and he gave freely and enthusiastically to make GA what it is today. Now as I post this blog, I shall go to 106 and pass my friend, but I know that he is happy that I'm still around and contributing to the site in my own ways much like the rest of the site from readers, to authors and poets, to staff and everyone in between. I can't help but admit that I am crying as I write this, just knowing that he will always be missed in my life but always will be just a memory away. In case you want to see what he meant to so many, pop by this blog entry when he passed. So shall we see what happened at the GA Blog this past week? On Monday, a great story was featured by @Puppilull on @Mann Ramblings story Innocence and Carnality: On Tuesday, Renee came back to let us all know about the final Anthology themes for 2020. 😮 oh my, that is only 3 months away! Onto Thursday, where Myr wrapped up the month of September with the final installment of Anthologies for this round: Friday was our usual day for Comicfan to drop in with a couple of new prompts. 12. So am I normal? Now before the usual peanut gallery jumps in with a resounding YES (or is that NO), let me explain. Today, for a Saturday I was bored. I played on the computer, I cleaned the condo, I took the car for a wash, and still was bored. So I flicked on the TV and started going through the hundreds of channels and nothing really appealed to me. Next I turned on Prime Video, nope, nothing caught my fancy. Then it was over to Netflix. Well they are featuring a movie that I have never seen as I don't really care of horrors. Not for the usual reason though. So I decided to make a bowl of popcorn, grabbed a Diet Coke with Lime and sat down to watch the 1990 classic IT. Like most horror movies, I found it hilarious. I was giggling throughout at how they try to scare you with the surprises, the building of tension, the flashing lights and such. I mean, I know some people are afraid of clowns, but now I have to find out if I can get a Pennywise doll to cuddle with I wonder what our IT fan @Wesley8890 thinks about the movie? What do you think about the movie? Have you seen the new movie? That is another week of musings to start off the weekly wrap up On Monday, Cia took on the week to make introductions to the Classic Signature Author for September: Then to continue on Classic Signature week, Wednesday was the Excerpt day: Onto Thursday, when we had the 3rd round of stories for this month's Anthology Flashback, and a reminder about the November 19th deadline for the upcoming ones: Finally on Friday, even after eye surgery, our prompt guru Wayne brought us a couple of new prompts: So how did we do last week on our story targets? 13. The first week of September has arrived and things are a changing! I've notice a bit of a uptick in the forums and stories and also feeling a change in the weather and length of days. I never understood how people who live closer to the equator have little to no deviation in the length of days. Just seems strange to me . Then the further you go south or north towards the poles, you get longer days/shorter nights and visa versa as the equinoxes are reached. But then again, it would be strange to have 24 hours of light, or dark . Currently here, the sun is fading out at around 7:30, but by the end of October, that will probably be 5:00 pm. So are any of you affected by SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)? I personally just want to curl up and sleep more as the days shorten. Maybe I really am a bear and just want to hibernate So shall we take a look at our slightly busier week? Monday, Cia lead off the month with a new CSR Feature. Did you check it out? Then on Wednesday, Carols took a great approach and gave us a new and ever popular Ask An Author 2.0: On Thursday, Myr revived the weekly posting of Anthology Thursday. 14. So I really have nothing to talk about this week in the Weekly Update preamble, so I thought I would throw out a joke and some useless trivia Why did the chicken cross the playground? Did you know that giraffes only need 5 to 30 minutes of sleep in a 24 hour period They often achieve that in quick naps that may last only a minute or two at a time! Now, onto what happened around these parts this week! Monday, Renee gave us a great story review from @Puppilull: Wednesday was the last day to get in the 2020 Anthology Theme Selections, so Renee revisited the blog from a couple of weeks earlier: On Friday, Wayne popped by to give some new ideas to get some new ideas flowing from our heads to paper: Anthologies 2019 Fall Anthology: Fall From Grace - Due November 15th 2019 Fall Anthology: Raincheck - Due November 15th Blog Opportunities Ask An Author: Send your questions for your favorite authors to @Carlos Hazday (no questions = no Ask An Author) Guess the Author: Open to all GA authors. 15. I had an idea today I think we should start a swap your life club here at GA! Why you ask and how? Well, we all live in a area that seems to be effected by the weather right now around the world, so what if you could trade lives with another member that wants your weather for a bit. So @Slytherin for example says she is too cold in the wild north of Scandinavia and @Daddydavek says he is burning up in the Mid West of the US. Well, those two will swap places for a week or two But this means for everything! Daddy will have to go to work and perform LBO's occupation and in turn she will have to do all Daddy's yard work and such and chase around his grandson on a daily basis! So what do you think? It seems like weather is something that ties us all together, so why not . So let me know who you want to swap lives with for a bit. Well enough of that great idea, but bad logistical one and move onto the wrap up. Please also remember you have until August 14th to get your submission in for the 2020 Anthology Themes!! Monday, Cia graced us with a new CSR Feature for the Month of August: Then on Wednesday, Carlos dropped in with a great new Ask An Author 2.0: Wednesday we also had a Announcement and Technology Blog that wasn't featured, but was still a good one to check out. 16. So no surprise this week. Hopefully you all have been keeping up to date with Shark Week I have a lot of respect for all the parents out there, I just got back from 5 days of camping in the Rockies with my 3 nephews under the age of 12 with no power or internet or even cell phone coverage Well now that I'm sure that some of you are digesting that horror of that last statement, shall we see what has happened while I was out playing with bears, mountain lions, and cougars (and 3 kids). 19. So I was down at the Stampede tonight to about 12:30 am and I met this nice couple from Australia. I asked if they knew @Graeme, but surprisingly they did not They decided to come over here for their winter and our summer When I asked them where they were from, they said Wagga Wagga, NSW . I thought to myself, self, why does Australia have such funny names? Then I thought it my be Aboriginal names, and who am it to judge? Here in the Great White North, we have Moosejaw, and here's a tongue twister, Saskatoon Saskatchewan so do you have any strange named towns/cities in your neck of the woods? And onto the wrap up, after my strange musings... Monday, Timothy M. did an excellent story review to hopefully get us to check out another great story here at GA: Wednesday, Cia popped in to solicit feedback from you, the members. 23. We are now a week into the month of June, and a lot of places around the world celebrate Pride in June. How about your neck of the woods? My city actually does Pride the first weekend of September, but I don't know why . I've heard some chatter around the site about good, and unfortunately some bad, already happening. Tell us all about the good! Did it seem like a short week in the blogs? That's because there were no anthologies posted this week due to Renee ending up hospitalized Thursday morning to have her appendix out. She assures me that barring any complications anthologies will resume this coming week. Oh, I'm also going to put out a request for all members to PM me some of your story suggestions to feature in the weekly update. Some of you might be shy, but I'd really like to hear from you!
