  1. Well a Happy Independence Day to my neighbours to the south Hopefully you were able to celebrate your national birthday this year in a unique but safe kind of way And a belated Happy Canada Day and Happy Somalia Independence Day on July 1st So I was driving down the road the other day, and I had a weird thought, and wondering if any of you have pondered the same thing, or if not? When was the last time you saw a hood ornament? I think someone had a old Lincoln Continental in my parking garage, but it has been gone for years. Do they even make cars with them anymore? I think some semi trucks have them Enough of my musings What happened in the GA Blogs this week? Monday, Cia popped into our blog with CSR Discussion Day: Then on Wednesday, Carlos popped on by with this months edition of Ask An Author 2.0. Thursday, guess who popped in? Renee did with the Spring Anthology Wrap Up! On Friday even though it wasn't featured, I want to call out a blog that Myr who popped in and re-posted a tutorial from Cia. Also, hoping none of you were louts and checked out this week's Words of the Day. How about our pursuit to excellence in site goals? BTW, I have s few great prompts idea rolling in so thank you to all those that have submitted. 2. I saw this Friday night and thought it is such a good song for right now with everything going on in the world! Well it made me smile and who better to cheer us all up than the Muppets! Hopefully it will keep that smile on your face for the rest of the week too I also want to put out an offer to everyone! Our GA resident prompt guru comicfan, or those that love him, Wayne, will be away for a little while as he has a lot going on right now. This means we want you all to try your hand at creating a prompt or two for the next while. If you feel up to the prompt challenge, you can send a PM to @Renee Stevens and/or @wildone and we will try to post a lot of them! After next week's Anthology Wrap Up, we will be returning to our regular scheduled programming of the prompts on Friday. So we need some soon! This is a way to get you name immortalized in the GA Weekly Blog . Now we should get to the wrap up! Monday, Renee featured another great review supplied by our Supercalafragalisticexpialadoshus Review Team! This review was done by @Timothy M. Fast forward to Thursday and Renee was back again with Week of 4 of the Spring Anthology And don't forget about all the words that Myr supplied us with too! He will help us add to our vernacular, even if you want to discuss vermicular. So how did we do last week? 4. Another week, and another week of nice weather. I guess some of our US of A neighbours had a bit of extreme weather, so hoping you all are okay Tonight, I actually sat at my computer and watched 3 completely separate thunderstorms move through the city. Great lightening shows, and thunder that shook the stuff in my place. Won't catch me going outside in anything like that again Oops, let me retract that! Watching the 11:30 local news and our major freeway going through the middle of the city, 4 northbound lanes had only the roofs of cars visible under water. In the NE sector the ground was white with hail up to golf ball sized and holes trough people's vinyl siding and ripped their roofs off too. A lot with flooded basements as well. Guess I shouldn't think of my light show as great, when it seems to caused so much damage . Well I will have a pretty easy job this week as far as the Wrap Up goes Monday, Renee was around to bring us a great story review done by the exceptional Review Team and this time was done by @aditus Then on Thursday, Renee was back with Round Two of the Spring Anthology. Everyday of the Week, Myr was by with a new Word of the Day. Did you check them out? Lastly, lets check in our on story goals. 5. Exciting things happened this week in the GA New Blogs Did you catch them daily, or do you rely on the Weekly Wrap Up to get caught up So last weekend, I played 18 holes of golf on Sunday. We all practiced safe distancing and such. I say played, but I lie . We went to play in the Rockies and some of the tee boxes were quite the climb, and then back down to the carts. Since I don't wear my prosthetic leg much since I've been working at home, I don't get out on it too much during the week. Needless to say by the 12th hole, my friends who were not judgmental or pitying me, noticed I was having trouble climbing up and getting down off the tee boxes, they suggested I play best ball format. So I gave it a try! Having 3 good golfers with a duffer like me, made it so all my so called drives off the tee box were exceptional from then on . Didn't keep score at all. Interesting how much more fun golf can be if you take out the competition of scoring. Now I'm interested, what fun outdoor (or indoor) things have you done on the weekend and were you able to practice safe physical distancing? I saw from status updates, @Daddydavek was having a blast this week cutting his ever growing lawns. Well enough about me and onto the update! Monday, Cia launched the Can't Stop Reading Feature for June. Wednesday was the 1st one of the month, so Mr. Hazday was back with another edition of Ask An Author. Remember please, send him questions to keep this feature going!!! Thursday, Renee took over the blog to announce the first round of stories on the Spring Anthology. Make sure to check them out!!! I want to give a shout out and also give kudos to Myr, for getting us 7 new words we can try to work into our vocabulary or writing! Are you a student still in skool? Well news for all of you, you all are in GA Skool and lets check your grades The people who were 133% or A++++++++, please stand up and say your name Anthologies 2020 Fall Anthology - Shadows - Due by November 15th, 2020 2020 Fall Anthology - Bridges - Due by November 15th, 2020 Author Anthology Questionnaire - Click here to participate Anthology 101 - New in the Anthology Forum. 6. Well excusssssse me Seriously, I need to apologize ahead of time. I've been on a wee bit of a vacation this past week and I wanted to take tonight off, so I can do some social distancing visiting with some friends. We will be 6 feet apart in his back yard with a fire pit between us. All of us are on the bit shy of meeting up, but as a group, we decided lets give this a try but practicing everything we can, which is a heck of a lot more that what I see others doing in the grocery stores So there apparently is a lack of people to do the wrap up this weekend 😮! Renee is relaxing by the lake on a post skool vacation, Cia is occupied, Graeme is a busy enchilada (I'm going to leave that as that is what my spell check put up :P). I should have asked either Reader, Dr.P, Talonrider or Gene to help out, but I left this to too late. I figured since the lights are out and the doors locked with only Myr minding the store, I wouldn't bother him The apology is that I'm running the story query about 6 hours ahead of time. So if you are a Premium, Classic, Signature or Promising Author and I miss you on the wrap up below, make sure you leave a post of what I forgot Really, we didn't have a lot go on this week with the GA Blog. Cia was in on Monday with the May CSR Discussion Day: Not fast forward to Friday, and we finish off the week by Wayne sharing some prompts. So how did y'all do on the goals this week? Well let me show you Oh, I nearly forgot , here is the words of the day that Myr keeps coming our way: Now before I continue writing more and more in a skimble-skamble way, shall we wrap this up? 7. Happy Memorial Day to all our American friends!! As Elen said, it is time to pull out your bikinis and use them as face masks Now, I am not suggesting that you put the tops on your top and your bottoms on your face You might get arrested and for me personally, I don't need to see that . What about your neck of the woods, is it bikini weather yet? I'd ask everyone to post pictures of themselves in their bikinis but I'm scared what I would get sent in Shall we move on from bikinis and onto more pressing matters Well maybe not pressing, but a look back at what happened at the GA Blog this week! Monday, Cia dropped in with the May Classic Author Feature. So that meant on Wednesday Cia followed up with the May Classic Author Excerpt. Finishing of the short week in Canadia (we had Victoria Day on Monday ), was Wayne in with the Weekly Prompts. Oh, don't forget to check out all of Myr's Word of the Day if you didn't catch them all this past week! Does that look like a pint of beer on the right side or am I needing a drink in a bad way ? 8. So lets have some fun Over in the Games and Humour section, there is a topic called Last Post Wins! Recently two or three participants tried to find earworm songs to drive the others crazy You know what I mean! The type of songs that you hear and then can't get out of your mind! No matter how hard you try! Well how about everyone share an earworm song to keep us going through Sunday to leave us all stark crazy. Wednesday was definitely a WOW Wednesday. Carlos, who is still desperately seeking questions for Authors, had one of the most responded to Ask An Authors...EVER! Now send him some questions to keep this going Then on Friday, comicfan, aka Wayne dropped in with a couple of though provoking prompts for everyone to consider tackling. 9. Help So, did I get your attention ? Seriously, we need help from as many members as possible! I have been in conversation with @Carlos Hazday and he has 1 question left to ask an author(s) for Ask An Author. Needless to say, no questions, no Ask An Author . Your question could be about anything you want to ask. You can specify an author or authors you want directed to, or just ask the question and Carlos will put it out there still. If you click on his name above and then click on the click on the Message button to send him a PM. Either you do that, or Carlos is going to get a whole bunch of questions from me, which nobody wants What's your favourite colour (I snuck in two u's in those two words ) , are you a briefs, boxers, or boxer brief kind of gal or guy So please, please send in some questions, for all our sake Now what happened at the GA blog this week? 10. Soooo, The other night I woke up with my pillow on the side of my face and I had hair in my mouth and in my nose I've never had a beard for more than a week before in my life, but I let it grow out over the past 5 weeks. The unibomber had nothing on me And the eyebrow,s even Albert Einstein would be jealous So enough was enough and woke up today and got out the cordless waterproof clippers and got rid of the damn beard! Next, got out the actual hairdresser clippers and started to use a #2 to start on a fade. Went well until I got the hairdressing scissors out next I was trying to blend the sides into the clipper cut and took off just a bit too much No problem, I just did the same the other side to even it out . So when I took after pictures I was impressed with my 100% self haircut. There won't be any pictures of the back, no matter how much anyone begs, pleads or asks. Not going to happen When I look over my head I have decided to give myself a resounding grade of F-. Now to distract you from my salon skills, here is what happened at the GA Blog this week. Monday, Renee brought us a new Feature Author. Wednesday, our Featured Author dropped in and provide us with a Site Technology and Software Update. Anyone have a saga or two in them? Friday was the day that comicfan returned with a couple of new prompts for y'all, or is it ya'll I checked in today with how we did last week on the story goals last week, which I have been remiss in doing the past few weeks. 11. Has the past month flown by for you too? It seems like only a little while ago that we were being told to baton down the hatches and start practicing physical distancing. Work days blend into supposedly days off and daily chores and tasks are being done more. As even one member commented, her Dad was washing walls, walls!!!! I see the blogs are starting to really take off. Interesting reading how so many people are dealing with the times as well as their thoughts on it too. Some of your status updates have me laughing my butt off . Seems like GA is becoming more and more a place to come to get swept away for a little while So what did the staff get up to this week with the GA Blog? Cia was on Monday, with a new CSR feature for the month of April. Tuesday was another feature of Author Guess Who Who are you, who, who, who, who? 12. Well, I'm kind of tired of asking the usual question at the past 3 or 4 updates As I was looking through the blogs and activity this week, I noticed a couple of things that I thought I'd mention. First off, for anyone reading @Dabeagle's story Corners you will see really high numbers of reviews and likes and overall interaction. I think that with so many of us home bound, Dabeagle has found for the lack of a better expression, a captive audience and growing audience. I also noticed it with other authors as well, @Mark Arbour posted a chapter of Northern Exposure also the likes and comments are flowing in too. With Mark having his own Club, he has also had a lot of people joining his club! Sorry, there is so many more, but these were just two of the many, many that I've seen this past week. To all of you contributing new works, on behalf of all of GA, THANK YOU!!! Second thing I saw was the Prompts that @comicfan graces us with every Friday, might be under utilized. I'm thinking I might do something totally different and actually express myself though a prompt response Keep the booing and the throwing of rotten fruit and vegetables at me to a minimum. I'm kind of fragile . Now shall we actually see what great blogs we had this week? Monday, Cia brought us all the CSR Discussion day for March. Wow, where did that month go? Wednesday was a favourite around these parts . Carlos was back with another rendition of AAA. Friday the prompt guru, Comicfan was back with a couple of intriguing selections for you to partake in. 13. So what is new in your neck of the woods? Well I know that the news is something we are watching closely or avoiding due to the nature of it. When I log into GA, I think of all our members in all the different hot zones and hope that all of you are safe, if you in there or anywhere else . I was noticing over the past week that a few pop up topics have arisen in the Lounge to lighten the mood. Maybe pop into the hilarious topic, Make Us Laugh #2. Or you could go old school and check out where it all started with @jamessavik kicking it off with Make us Laugh, but be warned some of the pics have disappeared or hard to see behind watermarks. Or do you want to get something of your chest? You joys, fears, happiness, frustrations or whatever is on your mind. Why not post a personal blog. I know for sure that you will find people that can relate to you, and it is also cathrtic to just get stuff off of our chests . In case you don't know how to post a blog, check out this help topic that was created by Renee. Lastly, for those of you that work in healthcare, work in grocery stores or any of the other essential services that we are so dependent on during these times, we appreciate what you do and the risks you are taking to ensure we are as safe and can stay safe as possible . Now what did the staff get up to this week on the Staff Blog? On Monday, Renee featured a great Review Team Featured Story by @Parker Owens on a short but great story! Then on Wednesday, Renee was back with another timely reminder of the upcoming Anthology deadline coming up. I was impressed some have their entry(ies) in all ready Then on Friday, reliable Wayne, aka comicfan was back with a couple of new prompts for you. I thought we would look at the reading Stats! Needless to say I had not. So here I am well past my bedtime and thinking if there is anything for a preamble. Since I'm in shut down mode already, I guess not. I don't even have a knock knock joke for you all So why don't we jump into the wrap up right away! Monday, Cia was out with a new Classic Author Feature for the month. Tuesday was the big reveal on the new family favourite guessing game, Author Guess Who! Wednesday, Cia was back with the Classic Author Feature Excerpt. 15. Ho Hum So is there such a thing as the February Blahs? I mean, the shortest month of the year is going to be one day longer this year and it just means another day of meh. Sorry if your birthday is in February, I'm not calling you boring or anything of the such . Maybe it is because the anxiousness of waiting for spring to be sprung for the Northern Hemisphere. Like some things are better, I'm not going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark, so the Earth is tilting itself in an attempt to appease me . Maybe I'm blah because I heard that March is the snowiest month in my neck of the woods So, are you suffering for the February blues? What are you doing to combat them? How about those in the Southern Hemisphere peeps, are you having blues knowing your autumn is coming and your summer is coming to an end? Well something that should put you in a good mood is the GA Weekly Blogs. So shall we see what mood lifting things happened this week? On Monday, Cia brought us another Classic Author Feature. This month it was @Andrew Q Gordon. (I've met him ) Then on Tuesday, Renee put the entire community out of their suspense and revealed the last Author Guess Who, @Brayon. (I've not met him ) Wednesday, Cia was back with the Classic Feature Excerpt (did I mention I met him ) Finally on Friday, a guy I've never met, comicfan had our weekly prompts: And did you check out the words of the day this week? 16. So, what is new in your neck of the woods? I'm sure that you all have some stories, some frustrations, some concerns, some fears and and lots of other things on your mind. With the pandemic in full swing in basically the whole world now, it has to be affecting everyone in at least a small way. My heart goes out to those that can't work, or are laid off, and don't have some kind of social safety net to lessen the blow somewhat. Lets hope that this blog finds you all safe and sound and taking care of yourself and those that you love and care for are doing the same. Usually I try to add some jocularity (maybe a word of the day for @Myr) but not really feeling it today. Last night I called my dad up, as my sister was on her way over to the seniors lodge my dad resides in. He was not opening the door for homecare when they arrived and when they got the door opened, he was only wearing a towel and shaking uncontrollably. She got him dressed but he wasn't making too much sense. When I called she was still there, but had to take off but was concerned with my dad. She put me on the phone and I asked dad why he didn't open the door. He replied that he was stuck in the bathtub (he doesn't have a bathtub) and the Edmonton Oiler got slashed by the damn American and all hell has broken out on the ice. I'm sure everyone knows there is no hockey going on, but in addition my dad absolutely hates the Oilers . I knew right away that he is being affected by a infection and suffering from delirium. I told him that I'd call him back and immediately call 9-1-1. I told them what was going on and they immediately dispatched the fire department and an ambulance. He wouldn't answer the phone again and my sister arrived shortly after the paramedics and firemen did. So they were concerned with the his mental state, when they asked him when he was born, he felt 1759 was correct 😮 They thought he was suffering from a urinary track infection, which he has had in the past, but didn't really want to take him to the hospital with the Covid concerns. Well, they did detect something just not right with his breathing too. So where is this story going? After arriving at the hospital they tested everything on him and he did have the UTI, which is being treated. But they still don't know about the lungs. He has now be tested for Covid-19 and is in complete isolation in the hospital for at least the next 2-3 days awaiting the results. Sadly, no one is allowed to visit. My sister that went over has sons aged 8,11, and 13, and older sister has a bit of a cold and I am considered immunity compromised since I've had diabetes since I was 4 . So we are all hoping it is the UTI, and that he doesn't have Covid-19, as he is not in the best condition to fight infections, bacterial or viral. Long story short, take care of your loved ones and let them know that you love them, as with this pandemic, you don't know what will happen tomorrow. And whatever you do, please take this as serious as you possibly can. Follow the best directions out there, once again maybe defer to the World Health Organization, and be safe I have to admit, I've escaped from real life by coming here and enjoying pictures of @Valkyrie's hash brownies, @Renee Stevens' strange dreams, and @clochette's return to infancy All have been great comic relief and making me feel better about things. I've also been reading @Tiff's story that was featured on Monday and Wednesday on the blog So for everyone contributing, on behalf of myself and all the staff, thank you . Now as mentioned, Cia had a new Classic Feature on Monday: Wednesday, Cia was back with the Classic Feature Excerpt: On Thursday, @Graeme and the Author Promotion Team announced our latest addition to the Promising Authors: Friday, Wayne dropped in to give us a couple more prompts! 18. Well the Great White North is living up to it's name this week. Snow hurricanes in St John's, and in Atlantic Canada. Huge amounts of snow have fallen in central parts and the the Prairies have been gripped all week in -40 weather. Even the nice green lower mainland of BC is covered in snow and the travel is not recommended. Still, Australia is burning in some areas and other areas next door are flooding. Okay, the localized weather forecast is completed and I really should get to wrapping this week up Maybe I should talk about letting me be the GA Weather Person. He'll have to invest in a green screen for me to stand in front of. On Monday, Renee brought us a new feature, a Signature Feature Then on Wednesday, Renee was back with a feature on letting us know about the upcoming Spring Anthology Friday, comicfan was back again with a couple of more prompts. 808 and 809 in fact. 19. Well I'm in a good mood I just finished watching a hockey game that came out the right way I don't know about you, but do you come to GA for a mood change? What am I talking about? Well this week has had me thinking about a lot of things, Australia burning, Eastern North America in tornadoes, rain and freezing rain. The Royal family in turmoil (okay, so I like the Royal Family, shoot me ). A passenger plane accidentally being shot down in Iran and 100's of lives lost. With that all going on, I think about it but I also make a point of coming to GA to check in on some positive engagement week after week. Stories, Blogs, Status Updates, Clubs, and so much more. So do you come to GA to escape some of the real life that we all deal with day to day? Speaking of blogs, on Monday, Cia had the first CSR Feature of the year. Wednesday, Renee got our Sherlock Holmes caps and pipes brought out for the Author Guess Who. Who do you think it is? Friday Wayne was back with a couple of new prompts to get you writing. Shall we look at the Weekly Renee Wrap Up this week. 21. It looks like this will be the last weekly update before Christmas 🎅. So what constitutes a white Christmas you ask? In Canada it is 2 cm (.79 inch) of snow on the ground at 7 AM on Christmas Day, the US is 2.5 cm (1 inch) and the UK it is one snowflake observed falling anywhere in the UK . Obviously there is parts of the world that won't see or ever see a white Christmas, mainly most areas of the Southern Hemisphere. I'm also thinking about our friends in Australia that are fighting sever fires across a lot of New South Wales . No matter if it is a white Christmas or not in your neck of the woods, on behalf of myself and all the staff here at GA, we wish you in the spirit of season, a Very Merry Christmas!! Even if you don't celebrate know that this means we are wishing you well and hope that you get the opportunity to have some great times between now and the New Year with family, friends, and everyone that makes our lives so rich every day of the year. Now question for you all, are you expecting a white Christmas? Me, the forecast is up in the air. We are supposed to get snow tomorrow, but we've had rain and fog the past two days. Yet an hour West, they are in the midst of getting 1 m (39.37 inches) in 24 hours 😮 So onto the blog this week, shall we? Monday, Cia brought us the December Classic Author Feature. Wednesday Cia was back again with the Classic Author Feature Excerpt. Thursday saw Renee wrapping up the fall Anthology, and not too early, as Saturday is the last day of fall in the North, beginning of the summer in the South. Myr then popped in on Friday with some holiday joy in his year in review for everyone here at GA! I'm so proud to be a part of the world's premier gay literature site which is really made by all of you. Poets, Authors, Editors, Beta Readers, and all the Readers are what make it what it is . 22. Like in Independence Day....Hello Boys! I'm baaaaaaaack Well, also you gurls, actually everyone! Thank you Renee for taking my place last week So I'm dried out from last weekend, which is a good thing! Last weekend I was at a football game, outdoors and it was hovering around 0C or 32F. Quite pleasant football weather (oh, North American Football I should say). Now this weekend, -30C or -22F, and I'm not enjoying this weather 😠 I'm thinking of all of you in Florida, or Australia or elsewhere sunny and tropical (not LA this weekend 🥶). So without any further chit chat, lets get to the wrap up so I can crawl back into my warm bed, fire up the iPad and get down to some serious reading! Monday it was time to have our CSR Discussion Day for the month of November: Onto Wednesday and we had the reveal of the mystery person in the Author Guess Who: Thursday my Christmas wish came true when Myr sneaked in and let us know about the new Reading History. I've been asking for this for decades! Okay, that may be a bit of a lie . But I know a lot have been asking for this and now it is a reality Then there was the really, really, really big news, something to get excited about here at GA! 24. Every week we have different blogs featured here on the GA News Blog. For the past month and a half, Thursdays have been used to feature a past Anthology or Contest with new stories from that feature spread out over a month. This blog is done by the omnipotent one, the big kahuna, the big cheese, the master of all, the seerer of all things GA, aka @Myr Well I didn't happened to notice this past Thursday that Myr's anthology blog wasn't featured on Thursday 😮 and not until Thursday night. Then on Friday I featured @comicfan's previous weeks Prompt Blog instead of this weeks So I thought I would get ahead of all the other Admins Resume for Steve Wildone Looking for work as an online community Admin. I am a 51 year old, washed up, and over the hill former Admin at a large gay writing site. Assets I believe I have are a great sense of humour and more than a 100 Chicken Crossing the Road jokes that I'm willing to share. Areas to work on include spelling, punctuation and grammer, even though I worked at a writing site. I tend to be forgetful of late. I have over 100 Chicken Crossing the Road jokes that I'm willing to share. Looking for at least 3 times my compensation at my previous site. References and more information available upon request. So shall I do my last wrap up? Monday, Cia held a CSR Discussion: And on the eve of Halloween, Cia was back with a list of Scary Short Stories!
