GREEN Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 (edited) I have a question for you guys. I am trying to write a story. The story is about normal people experiencing their fears and phobias, and I was wondering what kind of fears or phobias do normal people have. So I'm asking what are your fears or phobias? Please answer only if you feel comfortable sharing. I personally have a fear of blood. I can't look at it without getting extremely uncomfortable and it ,makes me stay away from places where I can encounter it, including hospitals. Thanks Green Edited January 29, 2005 by green

Thanks Green <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know that you'd call some of my phobias normal, but here goes. Needles. Hate them. Blood I'm okay with, but show me a needle and you have to pick me up off the floor. Macaroni noodles. Don't ask. Trains. Won't travel on them. Especially ones that go over steep drops. Flying's okay though. And cows freak me out too. Good luck with your story. Smiles, Dom
Bill W Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 Well, I don't know how normal mine or either, but... 1. Homophobes... obvious reasons 2. Drowning... can't swim, even though I took lessons. Have been saved from drowning 3 times in my life. 3. Burning to death... hope the CO gets me first, because that has to be a painful way to go. 4. Spiders... maybe not a fear, but a strong dislike. Came about after a guy I knew got bit by a Black Widow and had an allergic reaction to the venom. The results were not good. I hope that helps.
Crackerwriter Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 heights - yes. Unless I've got something solid under my feet. I'm sometimes tempted to sleep UNDER the bed if it weren't for the possibilities of spiders or other creepy crawlies. I have abject fear of something crawling up my nose or in my ear when I'm asleep. I've watched too many late-night movies. Oh, and wasps. I don't LIKE being stung. The only sad one is dying alone and no one caring. OMG! where's my therapist? Oh. I asked a friend about this just out of curiosity. The reply was 'cotton wool and David Bowie. I guess there's no helping some of us.
GREEN Posted January 30, 2005 Author Posted January 30, 2005 Thanks guys. I'm also afraid of heights, and cotton wool is a good one. I used to fear aliens when I was younger. Yet I was addicted to that show sightings. I needed to know LOL. But blood is definitely my biggest fear. I can deal with heights but not blood. Till this day I can't watch the shining.
ethan thorn Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I have only two heights and the unknown. As for blood no fear high speed love it there is not much i fear but then again what horror move buff has fears i tend to laugh at them.
BillM Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 Human phobias tend to be caused by bad early experiences with certain objects/animals/situations. Some common ones are open spaces, heights, storms, needles, enclosed spaces, blood, being alone, germs, darkness, crowds and fire. But there are many more
Umbathri Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 Lets see, Blood tends to make me a little queasy, which is odd given my proclivities... but maybe that little extra tang I feel is part of it. Not needles thats for sure =) Arachnophobia, I dont know if this constitutes a strong fear or a weak fear, but when I see a spider I just have to kill it. Im definetly scared its in my presence and dont want it near me at all, but I dont cower or run, I charge. If I cant find a shoe or a book or somthing to squish it with in a few seconds ill start to panic, but I cant wait Ill lash out with my hand if I have to. Ive left a couple imprints and holes in the walls... Dogs.. a fairly rare one I guess givin our society, but its easy to explain. A bite to the face from a little yap yap dog when I was young. I even had a dog myself at the time, poor thing lived through a lot of neglect. crowds, hieghts, ya... ~Umabthri scared of the masks too

I still smile and laugh at parts that make many cringe, but maybe It makes it more of a rollercoaster ride in the process. ps watching Cujo shortly after the incident above, had a lot of meaning for me... ~Umbathri Chomper, sick mask Edited February 3, 2005 by Umbathri
GREEN Posted February 3, 2005 Author Posted February 3, 2005 thanks you guys for answering my post. I'm not afraid of movie blood Its just when I see it in front of me. My favorite movie blood scene is in the shining when it gets off the elevator. That was aweosme. Thanks again Green
GunRunner Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 thanks you guys for answering my post. I'm not afraid of movie blood Its just when I see it in front of me. My favorite movie blood scene is in the shining when it gets off the elevator. That was aweosme. Thanks again Green <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Shining ... Good movie ... Filmed at the World Famous Stanley Hotel in Estes Park Colorado ... Right up the road from me ... As for Fears and Phobias .. Spiders ... Had a jar of them dumped over my head when me and a buddy were sleeping in a tent in the backyard when I was 7 ... Older brother got his but whooped by dad for that one. To this day, I see a spider and I have a flashback. I too have left numerous holes in the wall just to ensure that the dang thing is thoroughly dead. Clowns ... A Very bad experience ... Actually molested by one at age 8, ask sometime and I will tell the story ... Therapy ya know Claustrophobia ... I need breathing room Like Cracker above .. Dying alone Rejection ... Why did I ever become an Author?? Ice ... I fell through the ice at a local pond when I was 15 ... Got right out, but soiled myself from the experience ... Wont ice skate ever again That is about it, with the exception of fearing that I forgot something -Gun

I used to work in auto body and i have seen what a suv can do to a car. But i guess thats a hate more then a fear.
