Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden Plans To Run for Governor

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden Plans To Run For Governor

I would have been excited about this before, because I love the Bidens and I had a lot of respect for Beau for his handling of the Earl Bradley case, but his defense of the lenient sentence for the Du Pont heir who molested his children really, really deflated a lot of my enthusiasm for this emerging political dynasty.

It would take a lot for him not to get elected, though. There's the Biden name, and the fact that Delaware hasn't had a Republican Governor since 1993. The only way I can see him not becoming Governor would either be him having more serious health problems, or people being so sick of the Jack Markell administration that they vote in a Republican governor.

It'll be interesting to see how this all unfolds, though. Honestly, I would have thought he'd try and become a Senator.

There are two things I don't like about Beau Biden.

1.) His last name is Biden.

2.) He came to campus when I was a sophomore to give a talk. He came across as the most insincere, automated politician I have ever heard speak. He got asked a couple of tough questions by those in attendance, and completely deflected each and every one of them. It was pathetic.

Even if his dad is a douchbag with a big mouth, at least he is sincere in what he says and what he stands for. Obviously that quality didn't get passed down through the gene pool.

I am disinclined to vote for someone that comes from a politically powerful family.  Whether their last name is Bush or Biden, I think American politics and both parties have become dominated by those that have inside connections to the powerful and wealthy.  Beau Biden will likely win solely because of his father's name and prestige.  Elections seem less about a candidate's expertise or position on key issues and more about name recognition, party affiliation and personality.

When I see polls like "Which presidential candidate would you like to have a beer with?" I wonder if the modern electorate is still capable of choosing the best person for the job.

I only know the Bidens by what I see on the national media and Delaware doesn't draw much press here in the Midwest.  At least Biden served in the military so he has some idea of what service actually means.
