Ice Cream Sandwich Day
What is better than a scoop of ice cream on a hot (or cold or rainy or snowy) day? A scoop of ice cream sandwiched between two layers of cookies or cake. In other words, an ice cream sandwich!
Celebrated every year on August 2, the unofficial holiday is also known as National Ice Cream Sandwich Day in the US.
Many countries around the world have their own version of the ice cream sandwich. In Iran for example, rose or pistachio flavored ice cream is sandwiched between two thin wafers, while in Vietnam, street vendors sell ice cream stuffed between two layers of bread.
How to Celebrate?
- Visit your local ice cream shop and treat yourself to an ice cream sandwich.
- Make your own ice cream sandwiches and share with your family and friends. All you need is some wafers, cookies or biscuits and some ice cream.
- Experiment with different kinds of ice cream flavors and outside layers of the sandwich. What about making a chipwich, for example? It is an ice cream sandwich made of ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies.
Did You Know…
…that according to the International Dairy Food Association, chocolate mint ice cream is the second most popular flavor of ice cream in the United States, after vanilla?

My sister is a know-it-all who bristles at anyone's well intentioned advice. But when our older sister gave her several clever tips, she was impressed.
"I have to hand it to Pat," she told me.
"She really is smart. Not Jeopardy! smart; more Wheel of Fortune smart."

My mother was away all weekend at a business conference. During a break, she decided to call home collect. My six-year-old brother picked up the phone and heard a stranger's voice say, "We have a Marcia on the line. Will you accept the charges?"
Frantic, he dropped the receiver and came charging outside screaming, "Dad! They've got Mom! And they want money!"

My cooking has always been the target of family jokes. One evening, as I prepared dinner a bit too quickly, the kitchen filled with smoke and the smoke detector went off. Although both of my children had received fire-safety training at school, they did not respond to the alarm. Annoyed, I stormed through the house in search of them. I found them in the bathroom, washing their hands.
Over the loud buzzing of the smoke alarm, I asked them to identify the sound.
"It's the smoke detector," they replied in unison.
"Do you know what that sound means?" I demanded.
"Sure," my oldest replied. "Dinner's ready."

Q: The man who made it doesn't want it.
The man who bought it doesn't need it.
The man who needs it doesn't know it.
What am I talking about?
A: A coffin.
