  1. Thank you, friend. I don't mean to interpret the story for others, but I like to think our three leads each did get their own happy ending.
  2. Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I don't know anything you don't know, but I think Danny hasn't forgotten that Prosky and Rossi were going to kill Drew. He is, in his own way, quite loyal.
  3. Thanks, buddy. I do like to leave some openings for readers to fill in. That's a good call out, though not one I intended. Maybe a bit of the villain you sort of cheer for (speaking for myself!).
  4. Chapter 21: The Call Connor paced the length of his scuffed hardwood floor in his boxers and an oversized gray t-shirt. He hadn't slept. His bare feet tracked the same anxious groove from the kitchen counter to the sofa, back and forth through the quiet Sunset District apartment. When his phone buzzed against the coffee table, he jumped, lunging forward to snatch it up. Drew: I’m sorry about yesterday morning. At the cafe. About everything. I didn't want you to think I was playing
  5. Understood. We've got Chekhov's opera set!
  6. I'm glad you think so! I spent most of a decade waiting to write it. Thank you. The curtain will close tomorrow. I hope you'll let me know what you think.
  7. There are three movies that influenced this story, but no Godfather counts among them. Perhaps you've seen Manhattan Murder Mystery? Re: CM, yes. My characters do not always have a visual inspiration, but CM is by far the most frequent. He turns up in Straight to the Morning, Bearding the Lion, A Runner's Knot, Bringing Up Himbo and the upcoming The Saturday Boy.
  8. Thank you for sticking with it. The final act is coming soon. Wish I could say more.
  9. Danny would be so glad to hear that.
  10. Thank for sticking with it. We'll finish tomorrow with a night at the opera.
  11. Chapter 9: Dive Bar By the bottom of his second IPA, Drew had forgotten the stun gun resting in his jacket pocket. Out on the back patio of El Rio, the night was clear. String lights cast a warm glow over the crowded picnic tables under the dark San Francisco sky. Despite himself, Drew was relaxed. They had been sitting near the back for over an hour, clicking with a heady ease. Connor leaned forward, his forearms resting on the table as he laughed at Drew’s story about a dis
  12. It's really killing me to say nothing here.
  13. You would think someone in Danny's line of work would be very discerning.
  14. Sometimes we can't be warned from out own fate!
  15. Canem, bruh, I got you. A whole story soundtrack.
  16. Buddy, you are FAST. One of your many virtues. Prologue and Part One out today. Part two tomorrow, the conclusion on Sunday. I hope you'll stick around.
  17. Thanks for reading the first installment of Love, Death & Lattes. If you made it this far, here's a larger version of the cover art by 77tsutsu.
  18. Chapter 1: The Regulars The brass bell above the cafe door jingled, a bright, thin sound at odds with the two men pushing through the glass. Officer Prosky walked in first, resting a heavy hand on his duty belt and exhaling as the smell of roasted espresso hit him. "Morning, citizens!" he called out. Pushing sixty and snug in a uniform that never quite fit, Prosky was a Tuesday and Thursday morning fixture. Trailing right behind him was a walking disaster area. Officer Connor
  19. Prologue: The Professional The penthouse flat was a monument to terrible taste: all glass, chrome, and cold white leather, hovering high above the rain-slicked streets of San Francisco’s Rincon Hill. The target was a venture capitalist who had dipped his toes into the wrong unregulated import markets. He lived in a world far removed from Danny’s usual territory. But as Mr. Rossi’s personal driver, Danny went wherever his boss required. Sometimes that meant navigating Bay Area grid
  20. A sharp-tongued barista finds himself caught between two very different men: an intense mafia hitman and a clumsy, sweet beat cop. Sometimes dating is murder. (A complete series in three installments.)
