    Chapter 1

It Must Be Me By P. M. Dacey When I emerged from the elevator there was a nurse in white, unoccupied wheelchairs and color coded stripes on the walls and floor: Follow green for oncology, follow red for emergency or follow yellow for obstetrics. I briefly wondered if there is a colored line for the mortuary, but I decided the people that are going there already know where it is or they are already beyond caring. I have an aversion to hospitals and most things medical. Maybe it is bec
  2. I am getting ready for it. I figure this is my best chance for actually finishing something . The husband has even agreed to make dinner all month. We will see if I survive that.
  3. A friend gave me fresh figs so last night for dinner we had an herb salad (the one from Trader Joe's) with fresh Asian Pear, Honey and Mission Figs, red onion, grilled chicken, and blue cheese with olive oil and basalmic vinegar dressing.
  4. I am a muffin-maniac, but I will have to adjust it to be gluten-free so my husband can have it too. Not an easy task really, but looks worth doing.
  5. Made Chicken and Red Lentil Curry tonight with Basmati rice. Oh, and some fresh mango on the side. All very simple and tasty.

    Chapter 6

Thank you for the wonderful story. Recently I was able to enjoy some wonderful Puerh tea because of this story.
  7. I usually double it and I add some meat like sauted chicken or pork. It would probably be really good with lamb too. I will also frequently add some other vegies that I have on hand I am always playing with the amount of spice. I also like to substitute vegetable broth for the water. 1/2 onion, diced 3 garlic cloves, minced 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced 1/2 small sweet potatoes or 1/2 small yam, diced 1/4 red sweet bell pepper, diced 1 teaspoon olive oil 2-3 tablespoons red lentils 1 -2 teaspoon tomato paste 1 cup water 3/4 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground fenugreek 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger Directions saute the onion, garlic, ginger and yam in olive oil at medium heat until the onions are almost translucent. add the red bell pepper and saute for an additional minute. add the lentils, tomato paste and water. bring water to a boil. add the paprika, coriander, allspice, fenugreek and ginger. lower heat slightly and allow the stew to simmer for 20 minutes or until the lentils are tender and all the water absorbed.
  8. It changes a little each time I make it, but I can share the basics.
  9. I made something that is called Ethiopian Red Lentils and Yams. At least it started out that way, I've tinkered with it a little over time. It is great in cold weather or when it is hot with a wonderful spice mixture including ginger, cinnamon, fenugeek, allspice and coriander.
  10. I use olive oil for everything. I use high quality extra virgin for fresh dressings and frying (it has a much higher smoke point than most other oils) and regular (sometimes called light) olive oil for everything else.
  11. You are lucky they didn't stone you.
  12. I was introduced to my first hard alcohol by my stepfather, Glenfiddich Scotch, which kind of ruins you for anything less. I don't drink it a lot, but I really appreciate a good Scotch or whiskey. On a regular basis since I live in the unofficial beer capital of the USA with more breweries than any other city, I like beer, mostly dark beers, a good Porter or Stout. In the summer I am drinking some lighter IPAs an the like, but I really don't drink that much, maybe one or two beers a week.
  13. Currently and maybe this is because we are getting older, but our favorite gay movie is Patrick 1.5. Once upon a time it might have been My Beautiful Launderette (which still ranks up there). Another favorite is Strapped.

  17. I love Dolly, but I agree, Mindy Smith's version is amazing.
  18. I feel slighted. I posted this first
  19. Tonight it was BBQ chicken in the oven, we don't have a grill or anything because we live in the city. I found a good gluten free BBQ sauce called Stubb's Honey and Pecan sauce. My husband has Celiac and can't have have any gluten, so we have to read labels very carefully. You would be surprised how many sauces (and even drinks) have gluten in them. We also had some corn on the cob, but that wasn't really very good. Topped it off with a salad of mixed greens with onion, grapes, and Cremini mushrooms topped off with balsamic vinegar and olive oil with some cracked pepper. Not too fancy, but tasty.
  20. I have no idea how fast I write, but I know it is not fast. That is because I always write everything out in long hand first. I guess in this era that makes me a little weird. After that I type in, usually with a lot of changes in the process, followed by wasting paper by printing it so that I can edit it. I have never got the hang of composing directly on the computer, not only that but I do a lot of writing when I am not near a computer and I only have a notebook and pen.

  22. I just joined NaNoWrimo. We will see about the July Camp, this is a busy time of year for us.
  23. So I have posted my first real story to GA. It is called Inspiration. It is based and inspired by some of the art work of my husband, Chuck E. Bloom. His work is very surreal, so is this story. It was originally made into a chapbook for an art show in 2012. I look forward to hearing feedback. This is not necessarily indicative of my writing, but it is a special story.
