  1. “He’s gonna be here any minute,” Parker mumbled to himself as he raced around the room trying to fix last minute touches. He fluffed the pillows on the couch for the tenth time. Stan and Buck were helping decorate the mess hall in the common building for Colton’s birthday. Well, Parker and Stan were decorating. Buck was sitting at the long table drinking a beer and scratching his belly. “Calm down,” Stan said, pulling Parker away from the couch. “It’s fine. Those pillows are going to fall apar
  2. As Parker pushed his way through the crowded hallway on his way to class, his phone started to vibrate in his pocket. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled it out and looked at the display. Expecting it to be Colton, the name and picture on the screen surprised Parker. He hadn’t really spoken with Shell in a couple of weeks, not since the pack split. And then it was just a mumbled “hi” as they passed in the hallway. Parker moved out of the way of the other students, and ducked behind the door of
  3. Parker rolled over and groaned. His body ached in places he didn’t even know could ache. When he opened his eyes, he found Colton lying next to him, watching him. They were back in their bed, and the sun was shining brightly through the cabin windows. Just how long had he slept? “How do you feel?” Colton asked. He ran his fingers over Parker’s forehead, pushing his bangs to the side. “Like I got hit by a bus.” “Your body is adjusting to the shift. Tonight will be much easier.” “Tonight?” Pa
  4. "I love you, Noah." Now that Eli had actually gone and said the words aloud, Noah was trying not to freak out. Especially given the fact that the bigger man was on top of him, ready to slide into his body. There was nowhere to run. He didn't know how to respond. Should he say it back, despite the fact that the thought of telling another man he loved him was terrifying? And if he didn't say it, would Eli be upset? One of Eli's hands moved around Noah's head. Using his thumb, he began to massage
  5. “What on earth is wrong with you, Parker?” Kate looked across the dining room table at her son with furrowed brows. Parker had barely touched his lunch. He was bouncing his legs under the table, while chewing on his thumbnail. He was restless. The sun hadn’t even gone down yet, but he could already feel the pull of the full moon. “Parker. Your father and I have been talking. Are you on drugs?” his mother asked. His father glanced up from his BlackBerry to listen to the answer. It took a momen
  6. Colton pointed to an empty parking spot, signaling for Jed to pull in. Jed parallel parked his truck in front of the sheriff’s office in downtown Timber. The village was part of Colton’s pack territory. Standing on the sidewalk in the middle of the village, Colton now understood why Forrest wasn’t so interested in keeping it. If you blinked, you’d miss the small town with a population of less than two thousand. “Well, fuck. Is this it?” Jed asked while looking up and down the street. There wa
  7. Parker sat in class, only half paying attention to the teacher as she drew equations on the board. It had been over a week since the disastrous playoff game and things weren’t any better. He hadn’t spoken to Shell at all since then, and that was the worst part of it. He became aware of an odd sensation, a sort of tingling, that started in the back of his head. Parker rubbed his hand against the base of his skull. Colton was upset. Somehow he just knew it. He glanced up at the clock and watche
  8. Dinner with Eli's parents was quite nice. After cutting himself with a knife, Noah thought the evening couldn't get any worse. He was right. With dinner plans abandoned, they had enough fried chicken delivered to serve an army. Maybe that helped, because once they sat down for dinner, things became a lot more casual. Noah liked Eli's parents. His mother was outgoing and chatted constantly throughout dinner. While his father was a quiet man, he did have a dry sense of humor. Noah could see aspec
  9. The next morning Colton accidentally slept in, and was late picking up Parker for school. It was understandable. It seemed that his new half-shift used a lot more energy than his full wolf shift. Colton needed the rest because this was the start of a big weekend. Today was Friday and the school was holding a huge pep rally in the afternoon. Then tomorrow the team would be heading by bus to play the final state championship game at the pro arena. It was going to be a good weekend. Colton drove
  10. After Colton got dressed with the change of clothes he had in his trunk, the pack-mates drove to their new pack grounds. Colton watched Jed and Parker build up a fire in the big firepit while Trey “supervised.” He looked around the abandoned campsite and cringed. What the hell had he just done? It was one thing to accept his own exile, but he had just ruined the lives of the three people he cared about the most. “Your dad looked pissed,” Jed said to Trey as he pushed a log into the fire using
  11. Colton was in the middle of setting up a surprise for Parker when he got the call from his father about the pack meeting. He had to abandon his plans so that he could pick Parker up to get to the meeting on time. His old pack put down turned humans if they were felt to be dangerous. There’s no way anyone could ever think Parker was a danger. He wouldn’t even entertain the idea that Alpha would do that to Parker. The worst possible thing he could imagine was that the pack would reject Parker and
  12. "What are you doing?" Noah tried to dodge Eli's hand, but he wasn't quick enough, and there wasn't enough room in Eli's truck to get away. The big man pulled his glasses off, folded them up, and set them aside. Eli pressed his index finger between Noah's eyes and began rubbing it up and down, pressing, massaging. "There that's better," he said softly. "Your brows were all furrowed. I was worried they might be stuck together." Noah rolled his eyes. He had every right to be stressed out. They w
  13. Every step Parker took away from Colton tore at his heart. The further away he got, the sicker to his stomach he felt. He kept wiping the tears away with the sleeve of his sweatshirt—Colton’s sweatshirt. Once he couldn’t run anymore, he slowed down to a walk. His legs burned and the walk home took an hour or so, which gave him time to think. Unfortunately, his mind was utterly blank. He was like a zombie, wandering on autopilot towards his home. But something kept pulling him back to Colton, t
  14. Deputy Carlton Butler watched his son interact with his friend from school, a small human male. His son was concerned about what might be a rogue wolf shifter in the area. The ‘rabid’ wolf had attacked Colton’s little blond-headed friend in the woods behind his house. Carlton had sent some pack deputies to the scene, but they were unable to identify or track the stray wolf. If what Colton was saying was true, the news was very disturbing. They couldn’t have rogue wolves going around attacking
  15. When Colton picked up Parker for school the next day, Parker dragged him up to his bedroom without so much as a “hello.” Parker’s uninhibited desire turned Colton into a beast, and Parker loved every second of it. Colton pinned Parker down on his bed and fucked the hell out of him. Damn, his man was loud when they had sex. Not that he was all that quiet either. When you had something that huge pounding full force into your ass, you were going to make noise whether you wanted to or not. After
  16. Colton held Parker’s sleeping form in his arms. He softly stroked his boy’s hair while he memorized every feature, every freckle and every pore. He always knew that Parker was his: his to protect and provide for. What he didn’t know was that smaller man was going to become everything to him, that he would steal his heart. Parker may not be pack yet, but Colton realized for the first time that he was Colton’s pack. They were a pack of two. * * * * Parker opened his eyes when he felt move
  17. "He what?" Eli froze mid-cut. He stabbed the knife into the loaf of bread, and turned to stare at Noah. Noah nervously twisted his lips, then pushed his glasses up his nose. "I shouldn't have told you." "You're damn right. Because now I have to kill the smug bastard." "Eli--" Eli cut him off, shaking his head. He refused to hear it. The dick had gone too far this time. "No, Noah. He does not get to come to your job and threaten you." He cursed under his breath, mumbling to himself, "I shoul
  18. “Hold on!” Jed shouted. Parker yelped as Jed’s monster four wheel truck hit a hole in the rutted two-track, sending him flying forward. He grabbed on to the seat belt shoulder strap with one hand and grabbed the headrest in front of him with the other. Jed let out a rebel yell as Colton and Trey cheered him on. Another bump had Parker screaming as he nearly hit the ceiling. When Colton suggested that Parker needed “bonding time” with Colton and his friends, Parker happily agreed. He was now
  19. Parker was catching a ride with Shell to the school’s fall festival. He left the house, tucking the lanyard with his keys into his pocket. He double-checked that he had his wallet and phone, then walked next door to Shell’s house. The door opened as he rang the doorbell. “Ready?” she asked. “Yup.” They had barely got on the road before she started in on Parker. “So, how come you’re not going with your boyfriend?” she asked, saying the word “boyfriend” in a mocking, sing-song manner. “He’s g
  20. Parker pulled a stack of dishes from the cupboard and shut it. He grabbed silverware for four place settings and set it on top of the plates. “Use the nice plates, Parker.” “Oh. Right. Sure, Mom.” Parker put their everyday plates back into the cupboard and grabbed the “fancy” ones instead. He was excited about having Colton over for dinner, but he was nervous, too. He really wanted his parents to like his boyfriend. After setting the table, he stared out the window into the back yard. He had
  21. The next Monday morning, Parker was getting out of the shower when he thought he heard the doorbell ring. He wrapped a towel around his waist and walked out into his bedroom. He opened the bedroom door and peeked out into the hallway. “Mom? Dad?” The doorbell rang again. He looked back at the alarm clock on his nightstand. If it was Colton, he was really early, over a half an hour. Since his bedroom faced the backyard, he couldn’t see if it was Colton at the door. Parker gripped the towel clo
  22. Noah frosted the cinnamon rolls, humming softly as he drizzled the sweet glaze over the tops. The smell of the freshly backed pastries filled his small apartment, and brought a smile to Noah's face. The tips of his fingers stung as he picked up one of the hot rolls and set it on a plate. He blew on his fingers, then snagged three more. Noah carried the plate into his bedroom. Eli lay in Noah's bed still asleep. The sheet and comforter covered the lower half of his perfect body. Noah found him
  23. Parker couldn’t sleep. He was just too wound up after his date with Colton. Getting out of bed, he went down to the kitchen. After pouring a glass of chocolate milk, he looked out the patio doors into the backyard while he drank. Looking past the pool, he stared into the forest. The back of the subdivision bordered on a small forest. It was pitch black past the treeline. Shell was always afraid of the woods behind their houses, but Parker liked the woods. They were protected by the state, so h
  24. Jed handed Colton a can of beer before pulling his own out of the cooler in the bed of his truck. Jed and Colton tapped their cans together in a toast and drank. Colton never took his eyes off Parker as he stared at him over the rim of his can. Parker was standing with Shell and Trey and seemed unaware that he was being watched as he laughed with his friends. But Colton had been watching him for a long time now. His boy was fucking gorgeous. His big green eyes and messy blond hair. His happy sm

    Chapter 7

The chapters are now broken down more logically. There are 29 chapters, plus an epilogue. My plan is to post a chapter every couple of days. I can't do them all at once because it would overwhelm the system with updates and it wouldn't be fair to other authors if the "New Stories" list was just a list of my chapters. (Note: On Lit I posted big chapters because the people there don't seem to like small chapters.)
