Better pissed than "a bit miffed". Now that's serious...

Yes, indeed. And Sarah is in the inner circle now and can compromise everything Andrew is trying to do.

Until last week when it was struck down by the Supreme Court, possession of child porn was a mandatory minimum 1 year in jail. If the visitor you are thinking of is DT, I'd rather have him pushed out of a plane over say Mackenzie King Island in the arctic. I'd even be kind and give him a parachute. At this time of year it's darkness 24 hours a day and cold. Basically a barren piece of rock in the Arctic Ocean.

I don't know, this is Canada. Criminal defense isn't a very lucrative part of the law. Criminal trials are expensive, and few people actually have the means to pay for a drawn out trial. Generally speaking, the Crown won't be laying child porn charges without any evidence and possession is a strict liability offense. It's very easy to prove and very hard to defend. I can't see lawyers lining up to take on that client after that charge.

The Emergencies Act isn't martial law. The civilian police agencies still have the same authority as before. The difference is the government can use the armed forces to maintain order if needed (but there is no mandatory use of them) and the government can requisition private assets for its use (with appropriate compensation later) to deal with the emergency. The act does give the government great powers, but the government is still in the drivers seat, it doesn't cede control to the armed forces. The Forces are there to be used under the governments direction. It's important to remember that Parliament is still supreme and can hold the government to account, and after the emergency is over the government has to justify all it's actions to Parliament. Upon the Act being used there is a mandatory inquiry afterwards to determine if it's use was justified. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms is also still in effect. It's entirely up to the government (and the PM) to determine if the armed forces are to be used at all; and if so, how and where.

The General is still accountable to Parliament thought this, and the PM can modify his authority by an Order-in-Council quite quickly. The General could find his wings clipped quickly and severely if Will wants to.

I wouldn't want to be on the bad side of Andrew!

West's spidy sense is already tingling...

Love the mixing of Andrew Scheer and Albert Speer! So why not have Yuri appear in court via video link from a secure location? That's has been done plenty of times for high risk prisoners. His first court appearance is only going to be entering a plea anyway.

At first read, I though the guy who ran from the cabin was Yani, not Yuri. I had visions of him running through the forest in bunny slippers😀 . At first I thought there was another mole in CSIS, but then realized it was a different character - the name is too close!

As if Will doesn't have enough to deal with at the moment, now this!

Becoming PM is the easy part, staying PM and implimenting policy is the difficult part. I hope that Will is up to the task! An excellent book Topher, I have quite enjoyed this whole series. I'm very much looking forward to the next book!

Have to say I'm more of a Second Cup boy than Tims, SC's tea is better. I think the title of this chapter is game, set and match. Lisa came out all guns blazing and quickly made the PM's Kompramat a brief flash in the pan. It's yesterdays news now. I'm willing to bet the Globe's lawyers will be wishing the reporters verified their sources better. Ah the Gloat and Flail, Toronto's national newspaper....

I felt like that today. I have a cold and was fighting rust to change a set of wheel bearings on the car today. Rust makes everything so much more difficult. Bolts that should undo, don't even when hit with an impact wrench that can develop 1400 ft-lbs of torque. Then it's time for the blue tipped wrench, i.e a torch. Heat is about the only effective thing to break rust.

There is no statute of limitations on Rape in Canada, Will could go after Jenny criminally. Other thought, is even if the Governor General does approve the prorogue, that doesn't stop a leadership challenge within the party. The party could vote to change leaders at any time, and then the PM is out. That would actually increase calls for Parliament to be recalled, so the new leader can be grilled in Question Time. Which reminded me of Wayne and Shuster. Anyone else remember their "Question Time" Sketch?

If all the participants in the political system behave honourably and as they should, there is no need to test. I'd much rather have things work properly and never have the Crown's reserve powers tested. It wouldn't be a good situation if those powers ever need to be tested.

You could say it was in Australia in 1975, and in Canada in 1926.

The first two in practice, yes, in theory no. The Supreme Court justices, the PM does appoint from a short list provided to him; however, the PM has no say in who gets onto the list. The Senators and the GG are appointed by The Sovereign (or his authority vested in the GG), under advice of the Government. It would be considered a crisis if His Majesty didn't do what his PM asked him to do; but the reserve powers are there that could be used if the choice presented to the King was unpalatable or was being done as an abuse of power. The King's authority (acting through the GG) can just as easily dismiss a Prime Minister as they can appoint one... A request to dissolve Parliament has been refused by the GG before, which colloquially became known as "The King Byng Wing Ding" If the PM doesn't like the GG, the PM can't fire him/her. The PM can ask Buckingham Palace to accept a new person as The Sovereign's representative, but that approval could be withheld. Especially if it was being done for partisan reasons or to consolidate power. It's never happened yet, but it could.

Peter being Peter is so amusing.

On the GA index page for Order, it's marked as complete when this chapter came out. I had wondered the same, it seemed like an abrupt end to be a "complete" story. Perhaps it's because you have uploaded all the chapters for release it shows as complete? Even though they are not all readable yet?

Rita MacNeil could have done it singlehandedly! Father would be quaking before Rita!

Yes indeed, setting up for the end game.

If he was that drunk could he even do the deed? Lets hope it wasn't her time of the month

Wow, that's both amazing and revolting in equal measure. Simply by accident of where my parents lived, I went to one of the high schools in the city that was heavily academically focused. It was assumed that most students were heading to university and the curriculum taught with that focus. The idea of a "baby trap" is so foreign to me.

She did have a good sense of humour.
