Frog Jumping Day
May 13 is Frog Jumping Day, a fun day to jump like a frog.
According to several sources, the unofficial holiday celebrates a short story named Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog by Mark Twain. In the story, a compulsive better named Jim Smiley trains a frog to jump and bets with a man that his frog can jump higher than any other frog in the town. The man dupes Jim Smiley and wins the bet. It is, however, unclear why the inventor of this day chose May 13 as the date for this “hoppy” holiday.
Frogs have great jumping capabilities and are the best jumpers among all vertebrates given their size.
How to Celebrate?
Jump around like a frog. Make sure you do not do this in a heavily crowded or trafficked area.
Go see frogs jump at your local aquarium or pond. And learn more about frogs and their habitats.
Read Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog and other works by Mark Twain.

Limerick Day
May 12 is Limerick Day. It is an unofficial holiday that encourages people to read and write limericks, a genre of humorous poetry that first originated in England in the 18th century.
Book of Nonsense
Limerick Day, also sometimes called National Limerick Day honors the birthday of Edward Lear, English poet, and author. Born in 1812, Lear popularized this form of poetry in his 1846 book called A Book of Nonsense.
It is believed that the term limerick refers to this specific genre of poetry which comes from the city of Limerick, Ireland.
5 Lines & AABBA Scheme
Limerick is a genre of poetry that traditionally has 5 lines and has an AABBA rhyme scheme. A rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhymes in a poem. To identify a poem's rhyme scheme, each line is designated with a letter. Lines that share a letter rhyme have words at the end that rhyme with each other. This means that in a limerick, which has an AABBA rhyme scheme, the words at the end of the first, second and fifth sentences rhyme, while the words at the end of the third and fourth sentence rhyme with each other.
Humorous Situations
Traditionally, the first line of a limerick introduced a person and a place and the rest of the poem described a humorous and often times obscene situation involving the subject or the place.
How to Celebrate?
Celebrate Limerick Day by reading some of Lear's limericks. Also, check out other poets' limericks as well.
Write your own limericks and share them with your family and friends.

Twilight Zone Day
May 11 is Twilight Zone Day, an unofficial holiday that honors and celebrates the Twilight Zone, an iconic and thrilling television show.
Nothing Is as It Seems
Twilight Zone was created by Rod Serling, who was also the show's host and narrator. The show is a collection of unrelated stories where nothing is as it seems and the end is usually always bizarre and unexpected. The stories on the show combined the features of science fiction, psychological thrillers, drama, horror, and fantasy and were based in the twilight zone.
The Fifth Dimension
The twilight zone according to the narrator at the beginning of each episode of the show is a “...fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge...”
Most Watched TV Show
The show made its debut in the United States in October 1959, to immediate critical acclaim, though it took a few years for it to gain popular success. Today, the Twilight Zone is considered to be one of the best and one of the most watched TV shows of all times.
No one knows who created this holiday or why they chose May 11 to honor this creepy, but fun holiday.
How to Celebrate?
Do a Twilight Zone marathon. It is also Eat What You Want Day, so get all the fun food you can eat, and park yourself in front of the TV and spend the day watching episodes of the Twilight Zone back to back.
Gather your friends and have a Twilight Zone themed party.
Fancy yourself as a sci-fi writer? Why not spend the day writing some Twilight Zone inspired fan fiction?
Did You Know…

Eat What You Want Day
Break all, but one of your dietary rules on May 11 or Eat What You Want Day. The only rule you must obey is, of course, eat what you want, however you want it, how much you want it!
In today's fast-paced world, where time is premium, diets have taken control of people to wish to live a healthy life. All of us have some kind of dish or food that they love but have to stay away from because it is not very healthy. This unofficial holiday allows people to take one day from the year and guiltlessly indulge in their favorite foods.
How to Celebrate?

Clean Up Your Room Day
May 10 is Clean Your Room Day - an unofficial holiday that is bound to be any parent's or roommate's favorite holiday and perhaps every child's, teenager's and lazy person's nightmare.
Trash the Trash
Also sometimes called the National Clean Up Your Room Day, this holiday of unknown origins aims at keeping the dust bunnies where they belong - the trash. The holiday promotes clean rooms and homes and encourages people to collect their cleaning supplies, don their cleaning clothes and gloves, and spend the day spring cleaning.
Spring Cleaning
Spring cleaning is a practice in many cultures where people clean their homes thoroughly once a year on the first warm day of spring. It is thought that this practice dates back to the days when people lit fires to keep warm during cold winter months. The first warm day of spring allowed people to open their windows and doors and to get rid of all the soot and ash that collected over the winter.
Even though Clean Your Room Day falls towards the end of the Spring season in the Northern Hemisphere, and Fall (Autumn) in the Southern Hemisphere, it is a good day as any to get cracking on the dusting, scrubbing, and organizing. And who knows, you may just find that thing you were looking for forever hiding in some dusty corner of your room.
How to Celebrate?
Clean up your room and resolve to keep it clean every day.
Give away or throw any unwanted items or pieces of clothing that you no longer use.
If you have children, teach them about the virtues of a clean room. Help them organize their toys and books and reward them for keeping their room clean.
Get the family together and make cleaning a fun chore. Put on some fun music and dance while you clean. Give out rewards for milestones crossed - fastest time taken to clean, best organizer, and room with the least amount of dust.
Did You Know…
...that many cultures have a day assigned to cleaning during a year? In Iran, people clean their houses in preparation for the Persian New Year called Norooz, while in India people clean up their homes before the festivals of lights, Diwali.

Lost Sock Memorial Day
Lost Sock Memorial Day on May 9 is a day to commemorate lost socks. The unofficial holiday also encourages people to let go of all the remaining single socks they are collecting in hopes of finding their partners one day.
There are few mysteries in life that are as perplexing as the mystery of the missing sock. No matter how hard you try to keep pairs of socks together, invariably one of them ventures out into the netherworld never to be found again.
Lost Sock Memorial Day is a day to honor all those disappeared socks.
How to Celebrate
Throw out all the single leftover socks.
Use the leftover socks as cleaning cloths. Or spend the day making sock monkeys out of the socks that have sadly lost their partners to the sock blackhole.
Have a minute of silence for all the socks you have lost.

Europe Day
May 9 is celebrated as Europe Day in the European Union (E.U.) and around the world.
The holiday commemorates the day in 1950 when French foreign minister, Robert Schuman, presented his proposal to create an organization of European countries. Also sometimes known as Schuman Day, the day aims to garner continuing support for the European Union and to educate citizens in member states and people in the rest of the world about the benefits of such an organization.
How to Celebrate?
If you live in a member country or are visiting one, this is the time to visit European Union institutions. EU institutions in Brussels and Strasbourg hold open days where they organize public outreach events. Other E.U. countries and cities hold festivals, concerts, and other events to raise awareness about the E.U.
If you don’t live in an EU member state, do not despair - you can learn more about the E.U. in many other ways. Find out if the E.U. expat community in your city is having public events that you can attend. And if there is nothing going on, remember that Europe Day is at its heart a day to celebrate peace and unity, and you don’t have to be in the European Union to do that!

National School Nurse Day
The Wednesday between May 6 and May 12 of each year is National School Nurse Day, a day to celebrate and thank all school nurses that take care of children when they are at school.
The unofficial holiday was created in 1972 by the National Association of School Nurses, based in the United States. The day aims to recognize school nurses and acknowledge their role in the educational setting.
Ensure Well-Being of Children
School nurses are nursing practitioners usually affiliated with a school or an educational institution. School nurses are one of the first lines of medical professionals to ensure the health and mental well-being of school going children and young adults. They are also responsible for monitoring that children in schools are achieving their developmental milestones as well as ensuring that their lives outside the school are safe and healthy.
National Nurse Week
National School Nurse Day, also known as School Nurse Day, is celebrated during National Nurse Week, which runs annually from May 6 to May 12. May 6 is celebrated as National Nurses Day, while May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale is celebrated worldwide as International Nurses Day.
How to Celebrate?
Thank your school nurse for taking care of you.

If you have school-going children, help your children make thank you gifts or write thank you notes to their school nurse.

Beverage Day
Raise a glass to all your favorite beverages on Beverage Day.
This unofficial holiday is celebrated annually on May 6 and is also sometimes called National Beverage Day. While the origins of Beverage Day are unknown, we can all safely assume that the day encourages people to honor their beverages of choice and acknowledge that a humble beverage has the power to make or break many situations. A good beverage can energize you after a long, tiring day. It can also make a long, boring meal go fast, it can bring together two strangers, and it can make a party more fun.
Whether your preferred beverage is a hot cup of tea, a delicious and healthy smoothie, or a tall glass of lemonade, Beverage Day is the perfect excuse to indulge yourself by drinking it all day long.
Sit back, relax and celebrate the day with your favorite beverage. It could be anything from something as simple as water to a fancy cocktail.
Try new beverages. What about tasting the national drink of a country you have never visited?
Have a tasting party at home. Pick up a beverage you and your guests like and make or find different versions of it to taste and try. For example, you could do a beer or wine tasting party or a tea or coffee tasting party. Have each of your guests bring their favorite brand of beverage to share and serve foods that pair with the beverage of your choice. Who knows, you may just find your next favorite beverage at one of these parties!
Did You Know…

Star Wars Day
May 4 is celebrated as Star Wars Day by fans of the popular sci-fi film series, Star Wars. It is one of the two days in a year that recognizes the place of the Star Wars franchise in popular culture.
The date for this unofficial fun holiday comes from the often-quoted phrase within the Star Wars universe, may the force be with you. The expression was first used in the first film of the original trilogy, A New Hope. Characters use it to wish others good luck, usually while parting ways. Fans around the world have modified the expression to create the pun May the fourth be with you.
On May 5, fans celebrate Revenge of the Fifth, a play on the title of the sixth movie in the series, Revenge of the Sith. Some Star Wars enthusiasts celebrate it on May 6 stating that Revenge of the Sixth sounds much closer to the original movie name.
British Origins
The origin of the phrase is thought to date back to May 4, 1979. On this day, Conservatives in the United Kingdom published a newspaper advertisement to congratulate their candidate, Margaret Thatcher, for taking the Prime Minister's office. The advertisement said "May The Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations".
Galaxy Far, Far Away
Star Wars is a film series and franchise created by George Lucas. The film series follows events in a galaxy "far, far away" in the "distant past."
The other Star Wars Day celebrated in the year is May 25. It marks the release anniversary of the first movie in the series, A New Hope, in 1977. This day is also sometimes known as Geek Pride Day.
May 25 is also Towel Day, which celebrates the hugely popular science fiction comedy, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (H2G2) by Douglas Adams.
Admirers of the Star Wars franchise observe May 21 as Talk like Yoda Day to mark the first time the much-loved character Yoda made his big-screen debut in the United States.
How to Celebrate?
Dress up like Star Wars characters and have a Star Wars-themed party.
Greet everyone you meet with the phrase May the fourth be with you.
Organize marathon viewings of the saga, and participate in Star Wars trivia contests.

Herb Day
Herb Day is an unofficial holiday annually celebrated on the first Saturday of May.
Created and organized by the Herb Day Coalition, an organization of five non-profit groups, the holiday encourages people to learn more about herbs and use them more extensively in their daily lives.
The holiday, which first began in 2006 in the United States, brings together herbalists, gardeners, manufacturers of herbal products, culinarians and home cooks, and the general public. It attempts to spread knowledge about the medicinal, culinary and cosmetic benefits of herbs.
Different From Spices
Botanically, herbs are green parts of a plant that are used in food, medicine or as additional flavoring. They are usually leaves and can be used fresh or dried. Herbs are distinct from spices, which are usually dried or processed non-leafy – seeds, barks, roots, or stems – parts of a plant or a tree.
Worshiped Plants
People around the world use herbs for cooking and for medicinal purposes. Some cultures consider herbs as having spiritual qualities and extensively use them during religious ceremonies. In India for example, basil is considered to be a holy plant and is worshiped in many parts of the country.
How to Celebrate?
Learn more about different kind of herbs and their uses.
Start a small herb garden in your kitchen – herbs are easy to grow and they will make your kitchen smell nice.
Did You Know…
…that some people perceive the taste of cilantro or coriander as being soapy and like eating bugs? Studies have shown that this is because they have a special olfactory receptor gene called OR6A2, that makes them sensitive to the aldehyde chemicals found in the herb.

Free Comic Book Day
The first Saturday of May every year is celebrated around the world as Free Comic Book Day. On this day, participating specialty comic book stores give out free comics to anyone visiting their stores.
The holiday has three main aims – to create new comic book readers, to show appreciation to current comic book fans, and to bring back former comic book readers by reminding them about the joy of reading comic books. The holiday also encourages people to get acquainted with the art and science of comic books and to patronize their local comic book stores.
The unofficial holiday was first observed in the United States and Canada in 2002. It has now become a popular holiday around the world.
Following the footsteps of Free Comic Book Day, German, Austrian, and Swiss comic book industry and stores started their own version of the unofficial holiday in 2010. Gratis Comic Tag as the holiday is called, is celebrated annually on the second Saturday of May.
Comic book stores in the Netherlands and Belgium celebrate Free Comic Book Day on the first Saturday and Sunday of May.
How to Celebrate?
Visit your local participating comic store and get your free copy of a comic.
If you have kids in your life, why not take this day to introduce them to the world of comic books?

No Pants Day
No Pants Day is an unofficial holiday that occurs on the first Friday of May. Celebrated mostly in the United States, it calls for participants to spend their day without wearing pants in public. Participants are encouraged to act as if not wearing pants is a normal thing to do.
It is unclear when No Pants Day began and who started it. There are accounts that suggest that the first No Pants Day occurred in 1985 or 1986, while other accounts credit the Austin, Texas-based humor organization, the Knighthood of BUH, for starting the day.
No Pants Day is sometimes confused with No Pants Subway Ride Day, which is held in the month of January. The first No Pants Subway Ride Day was held in New York City in 2002 with only 7 riders who went on the New York City Subway without their pants. The event was organized by Improv Everywhere, a humor organization. Since then the Day has been celebrated in many different cities around the world. Improv Everywhere announces the date for the No Pants Subway Ride Day a month in advance.
How to Celebrate?
Spend the day wearing no pants.
Appear in public without your pants on. If you are uncomfortable going out without your pants on, what about wearing a skirt, dress or a kilt?
Did You Know…
...that the word pants is derived from the term pantaloons, which in turn comes from pantaloun, an Italian term used to describe a man who wears tight trousers? Pantaloun in turn came from the name of San Pantaleone, a Christian saint, who survived 6 execution attempts. San Pantaleone meant all lion and later the term came to be used to refer to a foolishly brave person represented in comedy as someone wearing tight trousers.

Space Day
Space Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday of May. An unofficial educational holiday created in 1997 by Lockheed Martin, Space Day aims to promote the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields among young people.
The day also encourages the public and especially the youth to learn more about space and space exploration.
Space, also called outer space refers to the void that exists between the Earth's upper atmosphere and other celestial bodies in the known and unknown universe. While the term space might make it seem like the vast expanse of the universe beyond the Earth's atmosphere is empty, it is in fact, not empty at all. Space is full of different form of radiation and lots of debris from the formation of our solar system. Some of this debris is in the form of meteors, comets, and asteroids.
The unofficial holiday is also sometimes known as International Space Day or National Space Day.
How to Celebrate
Look for Space Day events close to you and take the young people in your life to attend some of these events.
If you do not have any events close to you, why not create one?
Visit your closest space museum and spend the day exploring the exhibitions and learn more about astronomy.
Did You Know…
...that one cannot hear any sound in space? Sound travels from one point to another by making vibrations in molecules and atoms. Because there is no air, and therefore no medium through which sound can travel, outer space is eerily quiet.

Then the farmer says, "Pull, Buddy, pull!" And the horse drags the car out of the ditch.

Batman Day
May 1 is Batman Day. The unofficial holiday celebrates and honors one of the world's most well-known comic book superhero. While the origins of this holiday are unknown, the general consensus is that the day commemorates the date in 1939 when the crime fighter made his debut in the Detective Comics
Batman is a fictional superhero created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and published by DC Comics. The superhero who made his first appearance in May 1939 is also sometimes known as The Dark Knight and the Caped Crusader. His real name, however, is Bruce Wayne, a billionaire who wears a bat costume while combating crime in the fictional Gotham City.
How to Celebrate?
Like us, most you of you probably do not need an excuse to revisit your favorite Batman comics, but if you do, today is a good day to do some marathon Batman comic reading.
Wear a cape and go to work in your Batman costume.
Watch any of the several Batman movies out there with family and friends. Maybe you could combine it with a Batman themed costume party? Tell all your guests to come dressed as a Batman comics character.
Did You Know…
…that Melbourne, Australia was very briefly called Batmania? It was named after explorer John Batman.

Honesty Day
April begins with a day that celebrates falsehoods – April Fool’s Day. End it with a day that celebrates and acknowledges the importance of honesty – Honesty Day.
Celebrated annually on April 30, the day was created in the early 1990s by M. Hirsh Goldberg, the former press secretary to the state of Maryland in the United States.
Speak the Truth
Goldberg created the holiday as a way to encourage people to speak the truth and to "honor the honorable."
A Rare Quality
Famous American singer-songwriter, Billy Joel once sang that honesty is such a lonely word, suggesting that honesty is a very rare quality in all kinds of relationships - personal, professional, and social.
This unofficial holiday, also sometimes called National Honesty Day, emphasizes that honesty does not need to be a lonely word and that truthfulness can strengthen relationships and make them more productive.
How to Celebrate?
Be truthful. Embrace truth and honesty.
Did You Know…
…that the phrase honesty is the best policy was coined by Benjamin Franklin?

Zipper Day
On April 29, celebrate the zipper it because it is Zipper Day.
We all tend to take for granted most things around us. The humble zipper that is holding up your pants, skirt, or dress right now is one of those things.
Swedish-American Invention
This unofficial holiday commemorates the day in 1913 when Swedish-American engineer, Gideon Sundback received the patent for the modern-day zipper.
Before Sundback came up with his tool, there were many versions of this wondrous device, without which, being fashionable today may have just been a bit harder.
World's Fair Debut
One of the first recorded versions of the zipper came in 1851 from Elias Howe - an American inventor who is often credited as a developer of the technology for sewing machines. In the late 19th century, Whitcomb Judson invented a clasp locker which made its debut at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. This invention did not catch on as well as Judson had hoped for but it did earn him the title of the Inventor of the Zipper.
How to Celebrate?
It is such a simple thing, but a zipper makes our lives so much easier. Spend the day contemplating on other similar objects that are simple, but vital to our day to day lives.
Did You Know...

World Pinhole Photography Day
The last Sunday in April is celebrated worldwide as World Pinhole Photography Day.
The day aims to encourage people to pick up pinhole photography as a hobby and profession, and to share their techniques and pictures with the pinhole photography community.
Small Hole
Unlike its more technologically advanced counterparts, a pinhole camera has no lens and usually captures images using light that passes through a small hole or aperture. The light passes through the hole and projects an inverted image on a piece of film or paper.
Make Your Own
Popularly used to take photographs of the Sun and to safely observe solar eclipses, pinhole cameras are easy to make at home and require minimal equipment.
How to Celebrate?
Learn more about pinhole cameras and photography.
Make a simple pinhole camera at home and try to take pictures with it.
Share the pictures with the pinhole photography community.
Did You Know…

Pretzel Day
Celebrate the doughy, salty snack called Pretzel on April 26, Pretzel Day.
Considered to be one of the oldest surviving snacks in the world, the humble but delicious pretzel is thought to have originated in Europe, possibly created by monks in monasteries.
Soft or Hard
The knot shape of the traditional soft dough pretzels is thought to signify folded hands during prayers.
The commonly found hard pretzels are a much more recent invention considered to have been first made by German immigrants in Pennsylvania, United States.
How to Celebrate?
Celebrate pretzel day by making your own pretzels at home. Try new flavors of pretzels.
If you don’t have time to make your own, visit your local pretzel store. Chances are, they will be celebrating the day by giving away free pretzels.

Richter Scale Day
April 26 is Richter Scale Day. The unofficial holiday honors the life and work of American seismologist Charles Francis Richter.
Born on this day in 1900, Richter was the inventor of the Richter magnitude scale that measures the intensity of earthquakes.
From 1935
Known more commonly as the Richter scale, the scale was invented by Richter in 1935. It measures the magnitude of an earthquake on a logarithmic scale of 0 to 10. Each number on the scale refers to an event that is 10 times more powerful than an event with a number before it. This means an earthquake with a magnitude of 4 is 10 times stronger, and releases approximately 32 times more energy, than an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.
Modern Replacements
The Richter scale has now been replaced by more modern scales that calculate the magnitude and strength of earthquakes around the world. Despite this, the media commonly, but mistakenly, uses the term Richter scale when identifying the device that measures earthquakes.
How to Celebrate?
Learn more about the Richter scale and how it is used to measure the intensity of earthquakes.
Visit your local space or science museum to learn more about earthquakes and what causes them.
If you live in an earthquake-prone area, why not use to the day to run some emergency earthquake drills and ensure that your emergency supplies are up to date and easily accessible?

DNA Day
Observed every year on April 25 since 2003, DNA Day celebrates and recognizes the importance of genetics and the scientific advances made in the field.
DNA Day was instituted as a one-time celebration in the United States by a proclamation of the US Congress in 2002.
Double Helix
April 25 was chosen as the day to acknowledge the contribution of genetics because on this day in 1953, scientists James Watson, Francis Crick, and their colleagues published the double helix structure of DNA in the journal, Nature.
Worldwide Celebration
While DNA Day was first commemorated in the United States in 2003, it is now celebrated around the world. In the US, the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is at the helm of organizing celebrations for the day. Universities and scientific organizations around the world also celebrate DNA day by organizing scientific conferences, educational outreach, online discussions and essay competitions.
The holiday is also called International DNA Day and World DNA Day.
How to Celebrate?
Attend scientific lectures to learn about the advances made in genetics.
Learn more about DNA, its structure, and its components. Read up about how it affects our daily lives.
If you have kids in your life, make a 3-D model of DNA with them. Get creative – use materials you can find at home or in your kitchen.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day
Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in April.
The day, now run by Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation, encourages parents to take their children to work so that they can understand the meaning of work-life balance and pride in one's work.
Without Gender Limitations
According to the Foundation’s website, the day “encourages girls and boys to dream without gender limitations and to think imaginatively about their family, work and community lives”.
The day is celebrated on a Thursday so that kids can share their experiences in school the next day.
First for Girls
The day was first created by Gloria Steinem and the Ms. Foundation for Women in 1993 as Take Our Daughters to Work Day in recognition of the fact that young girls were often excluded from certain professions and had limited job opportunities.
The unofficial holiday aimed to give girls the opportunity to see different workspaces and environments. In 2003, boys were also included in the celebration of the day.
How to Celebrate?
Take your child to work.
If you do not have children, maybe take your niece or nephew or a friends’ kid to work. Make sure you inform your employers that you will be bringing a child to work so that your colleagues can make the workspace child-friendly. Have exercise and activities ready for the children, so they don’t get bored.
Did You Know…
… that according to some studies, birth order can explain what professions children will choose when they grow up? Firstborns tend to take on professions that require higher education while the youngest kids prefer artistic careers.

Take a Chance Day
Take A Chance Day on April 23 is the perfect excuse for you to play with some odds and venture out into unchartered territories.
The origins of Take A Chance Day are unknown, though we think the creators of the unofficial holiday wanted people to put away their inhibitions and their fear of failure and do something bold and risky.
Might Fail
In the English language, take a chance is an idiom that refers to doing something that has a high likelihood of failure. Usually, when people take a chance they are risking the possibility of failure or misfortune. In mathematics, the word chance has a very specific meaning - it refers to the possibility of the occurrence of a certain event.
The holiday is also known as National Take a Chance Day in the US.
How to Celebrate?
Take that leap of faith and do something big.
Overcome your fears and do something adventurous. What about bungee jumping or learning how to fly an aircraft?
Since today is also Lover’s Day, why not take a chance in love and tell that special one how much they mean to you?
Make Swedish pop group, ABBA's song Take a Chance on Me, your anthem for this day.
Did You Know…
…that if you were in a group of 23 people, there is a 50% chance that you will meet someone who shares your birthday?
Fans of the British science fiction television series, Doctor Who, celebrate April 23 as Impossible Astronaut Day.
The unofficial annual holiday celebrates the day in 2011 when the first episode of the sixth season of the series was aired in the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada.
Most Watched
Doctor Who is a sci-fi series that first aired on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in 1963. The show follows the adventures of the Doctor, a time-travelling alien, who travels through time and space in a time machine and spacecraft called Time and Relative Dimension in Space or TARDIS. The TARDIS looks like a London police box from the 1960s.
Called The Impossible Astronaut, the episode became one of the most appreciated and watched episodes of the series.
Tally Marks
Whovians, as fans of the show like to call themselves, draw tally marks on their bodies to observe the day. The tally marks come from the episode when the main characters draw on their bodies to remind themselves about encounters with monsters called the Silence.
How to Celebrate?
If you have never watched the show, what about starting the show on this day? Who knows, by next year, you may be a Whovian yourself!
If you are a Whovian, make tally marks on your body to celebrate the holiday.

Lover's Day
April 23 is Lover's Day, a day to celebrate your significant other and let them know how much they mean to you.
While the origin of Lover's Day is a mystery, some sources believe that the unofficial holiday is based on St. George's Day, a religious holiday celebrated in many parts of Europe.
Other Versions
Some countries have their own versions of Lover's Day. Brazilians for example, celebrate Lover's Day, also called Dia dos Namorados, on June 12.
Lover's Day is also known as National Lover's Day in the US.
How to Celebrate?
Missed Valentine’s Day? No worries. Now, you have a chance at a do-over. Here are some ideas on how you can make your lover feel special on Lover's Day:
Do something thoughtful and special for your loved one. Maybe do their errands for them or make their favorite dish for dinner.
Since Lover's Day has not yet been taken over by commercial interests, you can celebrate it in your own style without the pressures of having to go all out. For example, make them a handmade gift, clean up their closet, watch that movie you hate but they love, write a poem, take them out dancing, go to the carnival, throw a party in their honor, surprise them with a weekend getaway.
It is almost spring in the Northern Hemisphere, so what about surprising your loved one with a spring picnic? Pack some bubbly, some of his or her favorite candy and let the romance bloom!
If you are planning on getting married soon, choose April 23 as your wedding date. It certainly is less clichéd and common.
It is also Take a Chance Day on April 23, so why not take a chance on love and let that special someone know how much they mean to you?
Did You Know...
...that in some countries women can propose marriage to their significant others only on a Leap Day?

9 Warm-Weather Jokes for Summer
1. Past Lives On a family vacation one summer, we crossed Wyoming and noted several historical points of interest. The children were especially interested because they enjoyed the computer game "Oregon Trail," which gives players a taste of the hardships the pioneers endured. We stopped at the famous South Pass to look at the wagon tracks still visible in the dirt. Squinting out over the desolate, wind-swept landscape, my daughter nodded and said grimly, "This is where my oxen always die."
2. Mr. Summertime We all grew up in a town on the New Jersey shore and spent our summers at the beach, swimming, surfing, hanging out with friends. One of my friends loved the season so much, we began calling him Mr. Summertime. "What happens when summer is over?" someone asked. I thought for a minute, then said, "In September he becomes the Fall Guy."
3. Wishful Thinking My two-year-old cousin scared us one summer by disappearing during our lakeside vacation. More than a dozen relatives searched the forest and shoreline, and everyone was relieved when we found Matthew playing calmly in the woods. "Listen to me, Matthew," his mother said sharply. "From now on when you want to go someplace, you tell Mommy first, okay?" Matthew thought about that for a moment and said, "Okay. Disney World."
4. Moving Forward The summer after college graduation, I was living at home, fishing in the daytime, spending nights with my friends—generally just hanging out. One afternoon my grandfather, who never went to college, stopped by. Concerned with how I was spending my time, he asked about my future plans. I told him I was in no hurry to tie myself down to a career. "Well," he replied, "you better start thinking about it. You'll be thirty before you know it." "But I'm closer to twenty than to thirty," I protested. "I won't be thirty for eight more years." "I see," he said, smiling. "And when will you be twenty again?"
5. Sounding Off I was with a friend in a café when a noisy car alarm interrupted our conversation. "What good are car alarms when no one pays any attention to them?" I wondered aloud. "Some are quite effective," my friend corrected me. "Last summer, my teenager spent a lot of time at the neighbors'. Whenever I wanted him home, I'd go out to our driveway and jostle his car."
6. A Perfect Fit For her summer job, my 18-year-old daughter arranged interviews at several day-care centers. At one meeting, she sat down on one of the kiddie seats, no simple task for most people. The interview went well, and at the end, the day-care center director asked the standard question, "Can you give me one good reason we should hire you?" "Because I fit in the chairs." She got the job.
7. Tag Sale Special I was getting ready for a tag sale one summer day. Since it was so humid out, I decided to stay inside my air-conditioned house and mark the special stickers I had bought for the sale. Then I slapped them on my blouse, ran outside, stuck them on the appropriate items and rushed back inside. I did this until every item was labeled. Later that day a UPS man came by the house with a delivery. I noticed that as I was signing for the package, he seemed ill at ease. It was only after he left that I noticed there was one sticker still attached to the front of my blouse. It read "Make me an offer."
8. Clowning Around Before heading on vacation, I went to a tanning salon. I was under the lights so long the protective eye shades I wore left a big white circle around each eye. Gazing at myself in the mirror the next day, I thought, "Man, I look like a clown." I had almost convinced myself I was overreacting -- until I was in line at the grocery store. I felt a tug at my shirt and looked down to see a toddler staring up at me, "Are you giving out balloons?" he asked.
9. Hotter Cooler On a recent vacation at a resort with my in-laws, we planned to spend an afternoon at the pool with our kids. We wanted to bring our own drinks, but were unsure of the hotel's policy. My brother-in-law called the front desk, and assuming everyone was familiar with the brand of ice chest he had, asked if it was all right if he brought a Playmate to the pool. After a pause the clerk asked, "Does she have her own towel?" -- Tina M. Digiovanna 10. Forcast Vacationing in Vermont, I picked up the local paper to check out the forecast. It read: Today: Sunny, 76. Tonight: Not so sunny, 55.

A fellow walked into a drugstore and headed to the back to speak with the pharmacist. "Do you have anything for hiccups?" he asked.
Without warning, the pharmacist reached over and smacked the man on the shoulder. "Did that help?" he asked.
"I don't know," the startled man replied. "I'll have to ask my wife. She's waiting in the car."

Jelly Bean Day
April 22 is Jelly Bean Day. It is an unofficial holiday that honors the sugary bean-shaped candies that are hard on the outside and gel-like on the inside.
Popular during Easter and Halloween, jelly bean candies come in a variety of flavors and colors.
Cherry and Popcorn
According to Jelly Belly, a popular jelly bean manufacturer, the most popular jelly bean flavors include cherry and buttered popcorn.
Food historians believe that Turkish delights or lokum, a chewy candy from Turkey, inspired the creation of the jelly beans, though it is unclear who invented them.
Presidental Favorite
Some sources suggest that jelly beans were popularized during the American Civil War when people were encouraged to send the candy to soldiers in the field.
Jelly beans are equally loved by children and adults alike. President Ronald Reagan was known to be a big fan of this delicious chewy candy, so much so that about 3 tons of red, white, and blue jelly beans were used during his inauguration as the 40th President of the United States in 1981. It is said that his favorite flavor was licorice.
How to Celebrate?

Look Alike Day
If you have ever been told that you look familiar or look like someone else, then Look Alike Day on April 20 is the holiday you should be celebrating.
Look Alike Day is a fun holiday invented to celebrate identical twins, clones, copycats and anyone else who you look like or who looks like you.
Dress Alike
The unofficial holiday with unknown origins encourages people to dress up and look like someone else. This person could be someone you look up to or a celebrity you are a fan of.
How to Celebrate?
If you know your look alike, spend the day with them. Dress up identically and copy each other's mannerisms, and have fun with people struggling to tell you apart!
Find out what celebrity looks like you. Dress up like them, talk like them and walk like them. If it is a singer you look alike sing their songs the whole day long. If it is a author, then read out lines from their books every time you speak with someone.
If you are on social media websites change out your display picture and replace it with your look alike's. Make sure you take permission from the owner of the picture before you do so.
Did You Know…
…that it is said that there are at least 7 people in the world who look like you?

My diminutive aunt Flora, just four feet, nine inches tall, accepted an offer to visit a health club for a free session. After being greeted heartily, she was shown where she could change and told an instructor would soon be with her.
Having changed her clothes, Aunt Flora went back to the exercise area. Along one wall she noticed a silver bar that was not in use, and decided to try her hand at chin-ups while she waited. She jumped up, barely reaching the bar, and managed to strain through two chin-ups before the instructor came to her side.
Smiling politely, the instructor said, "If you want to let go of the coat rack and follow me, I'll be glad to help you get started."
