In going back to St. Vincent I found the following in chapter 42, George talking about Bacchante; “I think she looks rather crazed and horny,” Chartley corrected. “And she has large breasts.” They laughed again, and then Granger let his eyes move past her, to the forecastle. The snub nose of a nine-pounder poked out at them, the perfect gun for a bow-chaser. They dismounted and walked next to her on the dock. “She seems so much bigger than Belvidera,” Chartley observed. “She is 20 feet longer and five feet wider than Belvidera,” Granger said. “She is rated for 38 guns, so will carry six more 18-pounders than Belvidera does.” They walked back to the stern, where the expansive windows spread across the back of the ship. Her name was emblazoned across her stern. That would seem to indicate that Belvidera did in fact have 32 - 18pdrs., but with only 30 (15 aside) mentioned as being on the gun deck where would those last two have been located. I still don't do song and dance. So to raise this curtain of silence (no posts in 3+ days). I have been confused (not that way) from the start about how each class of ship was rated for guns. Were the bow chasers, smashers or carronades included in the count? For example, Belvidera was rated as a 32, but her gun deck only had 15 -18pdrs on each side. So were the bow chasers counted or were the carronades? I finally found something on this (click below) and I am still not sure of the answer. Can any one out there help me on this? Westie/Mark? Skill with planning and a bit of luck and the convoy is saved with a fantastic first action. Loosing Mr Grafton really shook him up even though only two dead total was remarkable. Now he has Wilcox to contend with again, truly no rest for the wicked. Great chapter, thank you.

Mark This was by far the best of the three to date. The characters, adventures and flow of the story kept me constantly looking out for the next chapter. I would enjoy it more if there was less sex involved, but that is your style. So to get what I want I'll take what you give. Bridgemont really is my favorite, thank you very much.

Command of a frigate. A chance to clear her name and shame, to make his mark as her Captain and restore her to glory. His wife now knows and still wants him. But in return he is off to India once more. He has Calvert and his old crew with him, which should give him a fighting chance. This was your best in the series, thank you ever so much.

Instrumental in getting a treaty ratified. The cherry to top off an unbelievable voyage. Influence, charm, friends in very high places and a string of successes. Mixed all together gives us a very young Post Captain and a frigate called Belvidera. A wonderful chapter, thank you.

Of course the French man would have incredibly important papers which George manages to save. Important enough to go see the President. Small world that those he and Travers saved just happen to be around. Impressive but not surprising with Granger around. Great chapter, thank you.

Humphreys his own command, Fitzwilliam with him. Calvert back aboard as 1st Lt. One more trip (but a long one) and then back to home. Sounds to easy, something has to occur. Promotion to Captain, not even twenty yet, well it is a story so why not. Great chapter, thank you.

Good judgment and fast thinking as well as luck won the day. Humphreys' assessment and quick actions were the key to this one. Taking back two prizes to boot is another feather or two in Georges' cap. This should get even Jervis to smile. Great chapter, thank you.

Fortunately George is a fast talker and turned a possible disaster with Jervis into praise and a mission. Calvert is almost healed. Humphreys is in seventh heaven with being given command of the assault. I wonder if Murphys' Law will come into play again. Great chapter, thank you.

Grandfather gives George the bitter facts of life, then as a salve, a grand house in London. Calvert dying except maybe for piss and maggots. He is off the hook and gets Fitzwilliam off also and sails off to his mission, with him in tow. Well done, great chapter, thank you.
