Some good points, it was probably one of the weakest points in the book. I was approaching it more from an International Charity Organization but can see how I failed to express that in the text. I think I have fixed it now, to tighten that rather frayed story thread.

Again I can feel it. I lacked a certain skill level to get this right. I've been bashing my head on this chapter for the last few hours. I know what I wanted and was trying to say, but it's like beating a piece of metal that's been in a car crash back into shape. No amount of pounding at it is ever going to get it to look right.

Yes you are right on the mother front, fixed it. (again this was written before Micheline was an actual character of her own. So discrepancies and proto-characters that just fit when this all became a series)

This character and his #@$#%@# wife. What the heck was I thinking when I wrote these absolute miseries of people. Rafik and Farah, as I recall were two people I knew, heavily edited and kind of defined 2001-2002 for me when I was living in Toronto. Toxic people feeding into an unhealthy situation. Vampires in their own right, draining me by what they thought was friendship.

Working on it. Put this whole book down to sixteen year old me, twenty three year old me, and twenty five year old me not knowing what the heck I was doing... a whole bunch of laziness on the part of the editor... and me trusting... blindly... that no one would notice Franken-book rising from the grave and eating some of my best work for breakfast.

FINALLY fixed the beep beep beep -ing format issue. <- Lesson to all you mushroom first time writers out there. Don't edit stuff after a six hour train journey and no sleep... and copy-paste EVERYthing into a seperate word processor. I lost the first two chapters of this revision, TWICE to the evil page-back button on the mouse and the ether.

It was written first, before all the others... It's rough, some of it very very early in my writing career... Bear with me while I fix it...

I am working to fix it, it was my very first book... some of it was written when I was 16... I am 47 now... just... bear with me while I work on it.

What the hell went wrong with this... I am rereading my own work after... nearly two decades. And this book is a mess, it was edited three different times in three different ways. Clashing story elements, proto-characters... dropped ideas... Hasty revision that in places contradicts itself literally in two adjacent paragraphs... I know I was messed up when writing this... but God's I am so sorry this book still exists in this state. Not any more though, I have my word processor open, and I am going to fix this train wreck of a book. Apologies but I am 178 pages in, and like hell am I going to let this franken-book sabotage my story arc, series and work any further. Bear with me, Renovations in progress.

This one was third in the timeline, but the second to last Carter book I wrote. I remember needing something fresh, to look at things from a different lens. I had never been happy with duty, and I wanted something to expand and build on that.

The bus Station was in Ottawa, good old Greyhound upper end of downtown I want to say near James Street from my memory.

Reading into the rules and regulations for posting stories, I would be forfeiting certain rights and violating some of the site rules were I to post the series here. Considering I still get royalties from these books that are required income and that I might run afoul of the 'Bait and switch' rules as I have read and understood them, I can't release the rest of this series here at this time without talking it through with site moderators. I am sorry, these two books were published here *before* such rules existed, and I have always considered them to be free releases and happy for them to continue here as public access. But I do need to retain certain distribution rights on this series. I apologize if that is disappointing, but I intend to follow the rules of this site as written. They have been a tremendous source of support over the past twenty years of my writing, I respect them greatly, and I support their reasons for such rules.
