It is an expression. One of admitting guilt for something. I thought the Board should have been accepting of all of Adam's ideas. But sometimes ego's need a boost and the Board wants to feel they are important.

Actually, Adam is looking forward to this trip. He will be meeting Gerry's intended.

Remember that the boys come from exceptional families and to find a wife for them will be difficult since they must also come from influential families. That won't be easy unless marriages are arranged. Adam position is rather than let it up to chance or a marriage broker, let the boys have a say in who their partner will be. I am glad that you have stated your position. I'll be sure to let Adam know. I have had male teachers and I found them to be excellent. They are able to understand boys better than my female teachers, (they related more as a mother figure, I noticed that female teachers had pets, male teachers tended to treat everyone the same) this is based on my experience. I hAve had only one female teacher in college, English. I was competing with students who were majoring in English. I was outclassed. I passed, but it took a while to understand what she was looking for in my writing.

You are right about many great women. Adam wanted a classic theme And he found it in Hypatia. She represented a very intelligent woman who accomplished a lot at a time where women weren't generally accepted. Thinking about how Adam likes themes, I think you will see why he chose Hypatia

Yes, those people where thinking about getting as much out of Adam as possible, didn't work. I thought Richard over reacted but then the relationship between them could be equated as the same as Adam's relationship to Bill. I think Richard like to be considered as co-conspirator

I did go with Marie and the children, accompanied by Billy and his family. Gerry was glad to see us, and I spent long nights with him going over his annual plans. We discussed his girlfriend.
