The following week my carpenter came back with an estimate for the fire escape. I thought this was a necessity otherwise I couldn’t rent the apartment. He also talked to his painter about repainting the rooms and hallways. He said he would follow-up with the fire department concerning fire retardants and fire suppressing equipment. I asked him to ask them about fog suppressants that wouldn’t damage artwork. I wasn’t sure if they would have a recommendation or not. Then I thought about the galler

Wells think he's entitled to a little bragging. There is a lot of work bringing those apartments up to code. That is probably why the previous owner didn't want to do it.

I appreciate the comments that you all add at the end of a chapter. It's an excellent incentive for me to continue writing . And before you start to wonder, those comments that appear to be negative are important as well. We are never to old to learn.

Nah, I wouldn't write a story like the Money Pit. I think Colin and his friends on the club's Board will get involved in the approving of renters. I wouldn't be surprised if the professor doesn't get involved. Wait until he tells Mary she has to collect the rent.

I don't believe that the building would qualify for any historical designation. Armand is very careful about ensuring that the apartments won't present a problem to his gallery. Apartments on the second and third floor shouldn't be a problem for students. They can handle the steps but the fire escape will definitely be needed. I don't think Armand would charge more than 12,000 per year. That would be a saving for the students over the year. They could afford to take summer school and still live close to the school. They also can work at the club in exchange for a lower rental.

Armand has the contractors doing just that. He has converted from gas to electric for that reason. He'll do anything to protect his paintings. Bringing in the fire department as part of the retrofit, was a good idea. They can look at what is being done and make suggestions.

The apartments were part of the building that Colin bought, The first floor was a store, which Colin turned into a gallery for Armand. I think it wasn't unusual for the small apartments not to have an elevator. I think there are a lot of small business building have only stairways. By putting in a fire escape, he provides and exit system not involving the stairs, although they could be used, at least the second floor Apartment A

I think Armand agrees with you. So he will proceeded to bring the apartments up to code.

It's too early to have Thomas. But be assured he will be a key figure in future chapters. I don't think Armand knows what is in his bank account. He seems not to be concerned about money. I believe Colin is the brains in that department.

He will spend any money to keep the gallery safe. If he didn't improve the apartments, being on the floors above the gallery, he couldn't that the risk of a problem with them. It was early, Colin had left for work when Armand left for the Gallery. I think Armand thought the bid was high but he wasn't sure. He conferred with Colin and between the two of them it was decided they had enough money. Armand was still receiving money from Mrs. McNiel.
