While Lane and the others had been battling with the dark force possessing Ramona, the rest of the town had been enjoying the festival without any idea of what was going on. They were fucked, Carlos knew. There was no denying it. Though it wasn't really her fault, Ramona had made a mess of things. For one, Ted Magyer was lying dead on Lane Hardy's carpet back at the lighthouse, and secondly there was a huge mess at the police station. He had no choice but to call the mayor and an ambulanc

Ramona stretched, first her arms and then her legs. She yawned. Lane thought of the way a cat stretches after it takes a short cat nap. Only this isn't one of those little docile house cats, he thought. This is a big cat. This is a fucking lion. The blanket wrapped around her chest fell away to reveal her breasts. There were scars on her belly, from where glass had cut into her when the bear had dragged her through the kitchen window back at the Sterling house. Lane resisted the urge to

Moira could no longer be sure how much time had passed. The three of them had probably been standing there for only a minute or two but it felt more like ten. Her legs were shaking so bad it was difficult to stand, but she didn't dare step away from the huddled protection of Lane and Ted. For those few excruciating minutes, Ramona had given no further hints of where in the house she might be. Everyone was looking so intently at the door leading into the dining room they didn't think to loo

Yes, basically that's what he's trying to say.

The night of Oktoberfest was a cold one, but there was nothing that would get in the way of the town from celebrating the annual festival. Carlos, bundled in a thick black jacket, with the word SHERIFF labeled on the back, walked between the vendors and stalls. In his hand he held a Styrofoam cup of steaming apple cider. Everywhere he looked there were half familiar faces, the faces of people he'd grown up and gone to church with. Everyone in the police department, save Melvin the dis

Moira was sore from the weekend she’d spent in the woods; she’d learned the discomforts of camping the hard way. Trying to sleep the first night had been a nightmare. Even in the colder months the woods were alive with moving things, heard, but not seen. Moira was hyper-aware of the crunch of dry leaves - in the back of her mind she knew it was just a rabbit or some harmless animal moving through the underbrush; but every time she heard something she found herself peering frantically into th

Lane had been practicing, trying to hone his skills. He started out with candles, making them levitate through the air and spin around the room. Hey, look at this: A new magic trick. He found he could go quite a while before he began to get a headache, but discovered it wasn’t a good idea to keep going until his nose began to bleed. The day before he had pushed himself so hard his stomach was cramping painfully and it felt as if someone had caved his skull in with a hammer. But the tide was

The tourists had finally left the island of Adermoor Cove in the wake of autumn. Though there were some who would never say so out loud, of the townsfolk who lived on the island year round, many were glad to have the town to themselves. Walking up the steps of the courthouse, Carlos Santino could sense the shift: the lack of traffic, the bored looks on the faces of shop owners and seasonal sales, the change of colors in the leaves. The town had been stripped bare to its foundation, its true self

The people of Adermoor Cove vibrate with excitement in preparation for Oktoberfest. Carlos is now the sheriff of the town. Moira has gone back to teaching, when she is attacked. Lane Hardy and his friends must decide Ramona's fate once and for all. Can they save her or must they destroy her?

Nora was still up when Carlos returned to the lighthouse. She was sitting in the rocking chair where Lane normally sat, with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders and a mug in her hand. He hovered at the bottom of the steps, uncertain of what to do, what to say. She was still a perfect stranger to him. Things had happened so fast since Lane had told him who she was there hadn’t been time to process that Lane’s mother, the woman sitting before him now, was here in Adermoor Cove. “How

They were sitting together on the couch. Lane sat on the other side of the living room, in a chair. In a surprisingly calm voice Lane knew she used with her clients, Nora explained to Carlos and Moira the process of what she would be doing. Carlos frowned when she was finished, skeptical, but said nothing. Outside the house the storm continued to rage. Nora showed Lane the pendant she held in her hands. It was the same blood-red pendant she had used a year ago at the cabin in Michigan.

It was going to storm again; according to the weather man it was supposed to rain for the next three days. Thunder clouds had amassed around the tower of the lighthouse as if the tower itself was an elemental magnet. The grey mass, like a bruise, only reflected the sense of melancholy that had come over Lane. He realized he was lonely, sick of the isolation. In Michigan it had been easy because he had Charlie and Charlie had been all he needed; on the road, in his car, he’d been too busy tr

Nora had forgotten how beautiful the front of the island was; from a distance it looked like something you might see in a travel brochure. Had it looked this beautiful when Craig and she had come here twenty-four years ago? Yes, she remembered it had, even more so than it did now. It had been in 1995. Craig and Nora had stood on a ferry boat just like this one, looking at the island from across the water. She remembered the haunted expression on Craig's face. His eyes had been wide and dis

Moira and Lane spoke little in the car. The mutual tension they felt was palpable as Lane drove down Donovan Road, towards a mission that could potentially be dangerous. Moira, more than anything, dreaded seeing Ramona's house. Even though it had only been a week and a half since the last time she'd seen it, it felt longer. More like a decade. She tried to distract herself, think of other things. Like how Lane had gotten this car for one, but Moira resisted the urge to ask. So she watched

Carlos laid in bed, watching the steady rise and fall of Lane's chest. The younger man was lying on his side so the sun was at his back and Carlos could see his face. His eyes were closed; he appeared to be at peace. I could lay here all day and watch him sleep, Carlos thought, stretching. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had a man in his bed - definitely not since leaving Boston. There had been plenty of men in the city, sure, most of them one night stands. Carlos had tried da

I don’t want you here. Those were the last words Nora Hardy’s son had said to her - and they stung like hell. She understood why he’d said them for she had more than earned them. But when your child spurned you, whether you brought them into this world yourself or you’d adopted them, for a mother there was no greater sense of shame. She’d spent the last ten minutes sitting in her chair, either looking at the phone sitting on top of her desk or out at Indianapolis’s skyline. When she’d

For the past decade Nora has done her best to keep Lane safe by keeping her secrets. Now, she realizes, the time has come for Lane to know the truth. Feeling a desperate need to attone, she travels to Adermoor Cove to reconcile with her son.

After what felt like an hour of travelling through the dark woods, when he was on the verge of collapsing, he managed to shove his way through the final group of trees onto Donovan Road. Across from it was another sign with another road branching off, rising into a hill: Maggerly Road, where Carlos now lived in the house Enzo had left him. Lane allowed himself a moment to look up at the night sky; he felt he deserved it. The storm had stopped moments ago. The clouds were in the process of

Moira was sitting on the couch in her studio apartment, getting ready to down her second shot of Captain Morgan when Suzanne Salander showed up at the door. Without the twins, Moira noted with interest. It was rare when Suzanne didn't have the twins in tow. "I tried calling you before I came over here," said Suzanne. "I was getting worried." "Sorry," said Moira. She wasn't really sorry, not this time. Her mouth and mind were on autopilot. "I was prepared to kick the door down

Moira was more than a little surprised when Anne Sterling called to ask if they could have lunch together. "Just you and I," she said. The occasions when Anne was not following Scott around playing Stepford Wife was rare. Perhaps she needed consolation after her daughter had gone missing. Moira accepted more out of curiosity than a desire to connect with her mother-in-law. They met at The Pine Tree Cafe, just off of Central Avenue. Anne hugged Moira when she saw her. "Oh Moira, it's so goo

Someone was at the door. Lane sat up, throwing the blanket on the floor. He’d been napping on the couch when he heard the doorbell ring. He’d yet to move into one of the bedrooms. For the moment he was perfectly comfortable sleeping in the living room. He’d been sleeping a lot, exhausted from making arrangements for his late great aunt’s funeral as well as getting his car back from the lot. Cursing, he got up and went to the door. Standing on the porch was Annabelle, the waitress w

The receptacle was surprisingly very heavy. Made of ceramic, Carlos Santino had to hold it in his lap with both hands. In front of him his father’s name was engraved into the material, along with the date he was born and the date he’d died. It’s heavy because there’s a whole human being in there, he told himself. My father’s in there. And it seemed right that it should be heavy, burdensome. Enzo Santino had died a very painful death. Carlos would be making payments for the rest of the year

Reeling from the events of Part 4, Lane and Carlos deal with the consequences in their own way. Having accepted Aunt Vanessa's legacy, Lane has officially settled into the lighthouse, Lane discovers his presence in the town is not welcomed.

Is there any changes I should make to tbe scene that would make it more accurate or plausible?
