The two limousines passed through the city of Berlin, heading deeper into the country. The roads were rough was piled snow and ice so the limousines were going at a cautious pace. Skold’s group had been split between the limousines. Skold, Rebecca, and Dom sat in the first; Candestine and Maeglin were in the second. The drivers’ clearly worked for King Yaldon. Skold’s driver’s face was as impassive as a stone statue-he hadn’t said a word since they’d left the airport. He could sense Dom a

Skold and Dom in the middle of packing for the flight to Berlin when Skold heard a knock at the door. It was Rebecca. Her hair was a mess of blonde tangles and their were dark circles under her eyes but she was smiling. Before Skold could greet her properly she threw herself at him and embraced him in a bear hug. “You have no idea how much I missed you.” “Thank you.” Skold patted her back awkwardly. He couldn’t help but smile. “I missed you too. When did you get back?” “J

Rebecca sat by Twig’s bedside and watched him sleep. The blood had been cleaned off of his face but his face was still covered in black blotchy bruises. Melanie was back at the hotel catching up on more sleep. Watching Twig, Rebecca realized something: When you loved someone you never stopped truly loving them, even when your heart belonged to someone else. Such was the case with Twig and Melanie. Her heart belonged to Melanie but she still loved Twig. Once her heart had belonged to Twig a

Rebecca was so tired that her eyes stung and her mind was numb. It was a struggle just to keep her eyes open let alone form a full, coherent thought. Twig had three broken ribs, had suffered a concussion, and was bruised badly in several places. That was not including whatever drugs he had snorted/ingested in his system. While Twig was being taken to the hospital in the ambulance Rebecca and Melanie had given their statements to the two detectives in different rooms of the house. Rebecca d

Roc City’s Police Department was a mess of panicked chattering, of people trying to do everything they could to prepare the city for the attack. It took Reynolds one phonecall to Mayor Ivanka to order all civilians off the street. Multiple helicopters hovered over the city, their search lights sweeping through the streets in search of the three tanker trucks. Skold and Reynolds poured over a map of the city. The map was so large that the edges were hanging off the edge of the table. “My gu

At the end of the stairs was a large room that very well could have been a study complete with a wooden desk, a fire place, and two tall book shelves that touched the ceiling full of thick leather bound volumes. The floor was of stone. The most curious thing in the room however was the pedestal standing in the very center of the room. Sitting squarely on top of the vial was a small vial made of crystal. It was to this pedestal that Samhein went to. He picked the vial up gently almost lovingly an

Thank you. I will try to get back to that moody setting and to make longer chapters. But I am getting to about the last 15-20 chapters; guess I'm just excited about being almost finished.

Skold adjusted the sound piece on his vest; it was disguised as a pin. Surely no one would think anything of it. He climbed out of the car and entrusted the keys to the courier. The two elves standing by the double doors pulled them open and waved for Skold to step inside. Samhein was already waiting for him at the foot of the magnificant staircase. Samhein was dressed in a blue silk button down shirt lined with silver roses that must have costed a small fortune, and black leather pants;

“King Yaldon sent me here to take you into custody,” Maeglin said, his hands clasped together. He leaned back against the sofa. “He wants you to stand trial.” Skold scoffed. “For what? Surely he doesn’t think that I’m still involved with what’s going on?” “I do not know Skold. All I know is the orders that he has given me. In three nights I must have you apprahended and in Roc City for trial.” Maeglin frowned. “I’m sorry that we could not meet again under better circumstances.”

Skold watched the two guards standing in front of the Atheyx building. They wore dark uniforms, their faces shadowed by the bill of the black caps they wore. They looked human but Skold had a strong suspicion that it was just a glamor spell; he suspected that they were really furies. He would find out soon enough. “See you inside,” Skold said to Dom and Candestine. He pulled the side door of the van and climbed out. “Make sure you leave us something to kill,” Dom said. “We do

Pyrius stood on the seventy-fifth floor of Atheyx looking out at the gritty rain soaked streets of the city. He smiled and thought, Soon the world will belong to the fae again as it used to so long ago, as it was always meant to. Soon the pestilence that is the human race will be no longer. He could only imagine what the world would be like without the presence of the human race. Though humans were their genetic cousins it was impossible to take claim in their genetic conception. I can’t believe it, Rebecca thought, looking at the farmland. Everything here is so quiet. She looked out at the snowy field before her. Except from the occasional mooing of a cow she could hear nothing. It was nothing like Roc City. She wasn’t breathing in the smell of pollution or hearing the angry honking of traffic. Instead she was breathing in the fresh air. How could she not notice or appreciate this beauty at Dominyc’s cabin? Now that she thought about it, that was a no brain

By nature Reynolds was not a people person; he disliked standing in crowds even more. Especially when most of the people in the crowd were reporters. He clutched the edge of the podium trying to maintain a presence of composure, of power; he was in charge of the entire RCPD department. It was his job to make sure that every cog and wheel was polished and ran smoothely and functioned as it was supposed to. But inside he was scared, so scared that he felt sick to his stomach, and he was tire

Skold came to. He felt weak, frail. His throat was parched. Everything ached. Those were the first realizations that broke the surface of unconciousness. Everything else came slowly, gradually. Mostly he was just confused. He was laying on something soft, a bed. It was large and comfortable like his own bed at home, but somehow he knew that he was not in his own bed. This was someone else’s bed. The sheets and pillowcase was white and the blanket that was over him was dark red. Sh

The steps seemed to stretch on through the darkness for forever. Steep and without a rail Skold and the rest of the group moved slowly and cautiously. The further they went into the dark the stronger the smell of a thousand rotting bodies became; the air was cold and damp. Finally it seemed that they reached the bottom of the stairs. Just to make sure Skold cautiously stuck his foot out and set it on solid ground. He signaled for the others to wait and held out one of his Uzis before him,

The sun was just starting to rise, throwing splashes of pink and vibrant orange across the sky, when Skold came home to find the seer waiting for him. She sat on his sofa, looking out the window. Skold stopped. “Invading someone’s private property is a crime, you know?” Annabelle stood, turned, and smiled at him. “I have never been good at following civil laws. You wanted to speak with me and so here I am. Sit, let’s talk.” Skold bit back the snide comment that danced on his to

For two days Skold did not bother to check in on the progress that Gihanni was making; he wanted nothing to do with the human scientist or his human test subject. For the next two nights the group split into two teams, patrolling the city for any signs of the necromancer. Candestine and Rebecca would go in one direction and Skold and Dominyc went in another. It was on the second night at three o’clock in the morning that Reynolds called Skold’s cell. “I have something that you’re going to w

Gihanni looked up from the microscope, eyes wide. Skold tensed up frowning, ready for bad news. “What is it? Something bad?” “No. Just fascinating. The plague...Come look.” Skold hesitated. “I know nothing of science. I wouldn’t understand what I’m looking at.” “Look anyway. It does not take a genius to see what is happening.” Skold approached the microscope cautiously and peeked through the view finder. At first it made him dizzy to see all of the little red rou

“So let me get this straight,” Rebecca said. “You and this Bane used to know each other a long time ago?” Skold and Rebecca crossed the street, heading towards the Roc City Police Department. “Yes,” Skold said patiently. “And you guys used to have some sort of fling?” Skold raised an eyebrow, holding the door open for her. “Is that what you humans call it? A fling?” She blinked. “Maybe that’s the wrong term. Okay what about Faust? Does that hit a little closer to ho

Skold and Dom stepped out of the woods side by side towards the glowing lights that shined through the many windows of Samhein’s mansion. Figures floated in and out of the house, working to carry the corpses of dead casualties into the driveway. They laid them neatly side by side, wrapping them in white sheets. Samhein’s ball, the celebration of Paladin’s efforts, had turned into a massacre. And rightly so in Skold’s opinion. Already Skold’s wound had healed without a single blemish to sho

Sliding immediately into battle mode, Skold lashed out with a high flying kick. His mind knew what to do without his brain having to tell it to. His foot connected with the side of the revenant’s head, cracking through its fragile skull. He could sense that other revenants had burst through the other windows and the wards were doing nothing to stop them. He flipped out of the way narrowly dodging a stream of the black vomit barfed up by another creature. Before he landed on his feet, he

Skold climbed out of the Mustang and walked around to the other side. He was dressed in a finely pressed tuxedo, the head of a rose tucked neatly into his chest pocket; he’d brushed his hair and tied it back into a pony tail instead of leaving it in its usual state of unkempt. A long, slender arm reached out of the car, white, pristine fingers interlacing through his. “Damn these shoes,” Candestine said as her brother helped her out of the car. She wore a sparkling white dress that hugged

All Skold wanted to do was go home and shut himself away from the world. He walked with his head shield his face like a protective shield, his hands clenched into fists. He crossed the streets without looking both ways. The horn of a semi truck honked at him angrily but Skold paid it no never mind. He fished his car keys out of his pocket and was about to let himself into his Mustang when a black limousine glided up behind him and came to a stop. Skold did not turn but kept his face hidden

Reynolds held the little glass vial up into the sunlight and examined the small black crystalline shard with a deep frown. It did not look like the plague that had ravaged the world and almost eradicated the human race. He swivelled around in his chair and tossed the vial in Skold’s direction. “Careful, you fool!” Skold hissed, catching it in his hand. “Do you want to cause the end of the world?” “Sorry it just doesn’t look very...threatening.” “But it is threatening. And ju

"How is it that you're not dead?" Rebecca said. "I saw Skold run you through with his sword." "By all rights I should be dead," said Candestine. She wiped the black gore off of her blade and slid it back into her belt. "If he hadn't missed just a fraction of an inch then I would be. I suppose he did not have the heart to kill me." "You know her?" Melanie asked. "What's going on? What the hell was that thing?" "The abomination before you was once a man, girl," said Candestine, nudg
