    Chapter 6

You're right. It may be part of the general tone I was going for when I wrote the original story about ten years ago. Adventurous, suspenseful at times, but still lighthearted. It was actually the first story I have ever written. I think the sequel is a little darker in that regard.

    Chapter 6

Valid questions. Not too long until we will find out. There are 9 chapters total.
  3. Jahna came out from the kitchen, carrying the main course. The bull we slew had been turned into a flavorsome roast, now resting on a silver platter in her arms. “Out of the way! Why are you standing here like an idiot? Shall the guests die of thirst?” Well, given the amount of wine already consumed, that danger was rather low. I made room for her to pass, which was harder than I thought in the narrow corridor. Both because of the dimensions of the plate and the dimensions of its carrier
  4. A crag lay to our left, in whose shade we had been traveling for the last fifteen minutes. My fear of having to travel on camelback once more, albeit in an upright position, proved to be unfounded. Instead, we were sitting on a small cart, being pulled by two horses. A cloth roof provided much welcomed shade. All in all, the ancient equivalent of an air-conditioned coach. Only there were no walls. The cart was open on all sides so the hunter could look out for prey. There wasn’t anything to
  5. It was already late evening when Manu returned from a session at court. “I will take you with me soon, once you’re settled in here” he assured me. So I stayed at the house, surveying the surroundings from the roof terrace. Surprisingly, I was able to approach the railing without any warnings from my VI. The heat up here was somewhat bearable as long as you stayed under the shade-offering linen. The heat subsided as it got later anyways. Unfortunately, the linen didn’t reach all the way to th
  6. It was already light when I woke up. The first thing I felt was the sting of sunburn on virtually all body parts and a pounding ache in the back of my head. Only now I realized what the painkillers had spared me yesterday. Elisa greeted me with a nice pop-up. 12th August 1443 BC. Time 6:12 AM Temperature 80° F, Humidity 49%. In case time-travel was abandoned, she would make a good weather station. I wasn’t feeling as groggy as yesterday, albeit my thirst was still not quenched
  7. Where the heck was I? This wasn’t Lübeck. It certainly wasn’t Germany. It wasn’t even Europe. But it obviously was a desert. My geography didn’t help either with determining my location. Deserts existed on pretty much every continent except Europe. Given such an extreme deviation in space, it seemed like a miracle that I didn’t re-appear in the earth’s core or on the dark side of the moon. Also, it made me wonder if the time-coordinate had suffered deviation as well. These questions woul

    Chapter 1

I get it, I would have looked it up, too 😁 However, I have to disappoint you. I have no idea who might live there. I picked this spot because according to an old map it was a forest back in the time Phillip intended to travel to. So it was close to the city yet secluded enough.
  9. The guard greeted me briefly but friendly, as I entered the security lock. “Good luck!”, he added after the biometrical scanner confirmed that I was indeed Phillip Marten and had the required access level. “I hope I don't need to depend on luck,” I said, smiling, and continuing my way through the maze of subterranean hallways. However, the calm and worry free tone I tried to give my voice did not reflect my true feelings. I was actually quite nervous and looked forward to what was about
  10. Phillip was chosen to be the first person to travel back in time. However, things don’t go quite as planned and he ends up somewhere he’d never expected, starting the adventure of his lifetime.
