Where am I? It was the first thought that registered in Harry’s mind as he drifted towards semi-consciousness. The unfamiliar warmth was matched only by the unfamiliar texture of Alex’s chest. “Hey.” Harry opened his eyes, blinking repeatedly as if barely believing what he saw. “Hey…” Alex leaned in for a kiss, landing a couple of quick pecks before Harry turned away with a blush. “What’s wrong?” “I need to brush my teeth!” They both giggled as Harry tried

I think you've got a pretty good read on Jill there, Arran. Has Jill actually done anything to spook Harry, or is Harry just a 'worst case scenario' kind of thinker? I guess you'll just have to read Chapter 8 and find out
-
These are all valid questions. All I can say is, if you have access to a man's phone in this day and age, you have access to virtually everything. Side note: You can disable an account without actually deleting it...

It didn't end up on the page, but she has access to his social media accounts via his phone. Access the phone and you can access the apps. (This is why you don't use your birthday as your pin code!) And yes, Alex has figured out that Harry is worth fighting for. You'll understand why that realization is important over the next few chapters. I can at least promise that they won't end like Romeo and Juliet!

Chapter 8. That's all I'm telling you 😛

Thanks for joining us, weinerdog! (I think this is my first time responding to you?) Harry and his mother have some difficult conversations ahead in Chapter 8. But will it be as difficult as Harry expects? Also, you'll be meeting Alex's dad soon. Is he an ally or a foe? Time will tell...

Don’t wake up. Don’t wake up. Don’t wake up. Harry snuck past his mother’s bedroom door on his way to meet Alex out front. Every step felt like a thundering herd of elephants, coupled with a symphony of creaking floorboards, as he made the perilous journey down the hall. Eventually, he unlocked the world’s loudest deadbolt and stepped onto the front porch. There he found Alex, clad in dark jeans and a black sweatshirt. “What are you doing here?!” Harry kept his voice low, pet

I should have named one of my characters 'Peter'. That really would have messed with the readers' heads, wouldn't it? I must admit, I've never read a new author based purely on their name, but whatever draws people in, I guess!

Thank you again for the kind words, Talo! I kinda pride myself on my dialogue, and I've avoided using 'he/she said' to make sure it flows the way I want it to. There are some difficult conversations ahead, so hopefully it continues to flow in the difficult moments, and not just the light/fluffy ones. As for my nom de plume, Peter is a real person. Without giving too much away, he's somebody who helped me realize something about myself. Now I write this story for him

Jesus, I wish. I'm just a boring 9-to-5 worker who tinkers with half-finished creative projects in his spare time. So many unfinished projects...

I think Jill knows her son well enough to know that the truth needs to come out at his own pace. Interested to hear about your own sleepover experiences though, drpaladin. Tell me more!

I think there are some things that are best said in person, NimirRaj. Especially when you're saying them to a boy with Harry's emotional sensitivities. There are other practical obstacles you'll learn about in Chapter 7, though. The reaction of Harry's friends is going to be a theme over the coming chapters, as well. It's a certain type of teenage boy who has female best friends, but what about the added complication of dating an 'insta-famous' boy they're familiar with? Is Alex even ready for people to know about that aspect of his life? Alex's real character arc is only just getting started.
-
Not a bad guess, Arran. The fact that Jill's waiting for Harry to open up doesn't mean there won't be a showdown with Jennifer later on, though I'm curious to know why my name piques your interest, as well. Tell me more!
-
It's a fair point you raise here, drpaladin. Is Jill holding back because she's waiting to hear the answers from Harry herself, or is she afraid of the truth Jennifer might reveal? Side note: Jill and Jennifer yet haven't crossed paths in the story. Read into that what you will...
-
I think it's fair to say Jill has very strong suspicions at this point. What's holding Harry back, though? Does he genuinely believe Jill will reject him, or is it just his 'worst case scenario' brand of overthinking? Chapters 7 and 8 will reveal more.
-
I think Harry's the sort of kid who overthinks everything. Perhaps his character arc is him learning let go of some of those neuroses? Also, there'll be plenty of talking in Chapter 7. Plenty of other things, as well

“She killed her husband.” “No way.” “Did you not watch it? She clearly killed him.” “Where’d she hide the body then?” “She fed it to the tigers!” Chelsea and Bridget continued to debate the Tiger King subplot as they shared a plate of fries in the school cafeteria. Next to them sat Harry, barely paying attention. “What do you think, Harry?” “Huh?” “Did Carole Baskin kill her husband?” “Who’s Carole Baskin?” Both girls looked at Harry, incredulous. “Jes

Thank you for the kind words, Talo! Dramatic chapters like this one are much more 'in my wheelhouse', so to speak. Hopefully the dramatic scenes coming up will be equally to your liking. I've also focused more on screenwriting over the past couple of years, so I'm finally getting used to showing little details like Jill and the dirty cup. Anyway, hope you continue to enjoy

Very good points. Without giving too much away though, homelessness and emancipation aren't really themes that I'll be tackling in this story. You'll start to understand the broader themes as Chapters 7 and 8 unfold. That's awful. I've been through my own experiences of being 'kicked out', though mine were with a homophobic landlord in my late 20s. Can't even imagine dealing with that sort of stress in my teens. I hope your friend has come out the other side okay?

NimirRaj isn't the only one who hit on a point here What do I mean by that? Come back for Chapters 6 and 7 and find out

Jennifer is a woman used to getting her own way. When things don't fit her best-laid plans or perfect image, she overreacts. It's an interesting point you raise about Alex's modeling, as well. Jennifer *does* love the clout that comes with having a successful son. Can that clout play a part in negotiations between Alex and Jennifer about how to move forward? As for Christopher, he might just have an unexpected role to play in resolving all of this...
-
'Unexpected direction'? Well I'm glad it's not predictable! The relationship between Alex's parents is a complex one, and it'll be touched on more in later chapters. As for Alex being set up with various daughters, that's more of an image thing that anything else. What use is an attractive son if you can't pair him off with someone else's attractive daughter? Especially in an environment where you can parade the golden couple at your beloved 'charity' events.
-
'Legal help'. Now there's an interesting thought. How much legal help is available to a teenager who is fed and clothed and housed but forbidden from being in a relationship? It's unfair to react the way Jennifer did, but is it illegal? As for Harry, he probably feels like he has something to be ashamed of. Something to apologize for. Perhaps the confidence disparity between Harry and Alex isn't just around body image.
-
While I don't think Alex expected the severity of the reaction (he wouldn't have invited Harry over otherwise), he most certainly knew what type of image-obsessed person his mother was. Will Jennifer change for the better, or will Alex learn to adapt? As for Jill, we'll come to learn more about her suspicions in Chapter 6.
-
Thank you, Brayon! While both parents aren't around enough, you'll come to learn that it's for entirely different reasons. As for Harry learning to trust people, he's about to have some confronting conversations in Chapter 6...
