Thank you for this story. Like every story of yours I've read (and I've tried to find them all), it kept me guessing the entire time. It brought me to tears, both the kind accompanied by a smile as well as the kind that made my heart ache, many times as I read. To be honest, I can't think of a single story of yours that hasn't had that effect on me at least to some degree. This story did not go the way I expected but then, I've come to expect that from you. And you seem to do it effortlessly, which I applaud. And though I shook off the chains of religion years ago, I find your take on Mr. D's "original sin" and the Maker's "reason" for casting him out, to be far more believable than what most religions claim as fact. There were two stories here and though Devin's and Luka's was foremost, Mr. D's and the Maker's was just as profound to me.
