When I was in denial about my sexuality I made lots of homophobic comments, and used the word gay as a general cuss word - like when something broke or didn't work properly I would say "that's gay". In fact I did it so much, that I know I passed the habit onto two of my flatmates... something I very much regret now that I have to face coming out to them. I stopped using the word in that fashion around when I came out to myself, but they are still using it. I'm led to believe that this sort of thing is very common with deep in the closet gays, and you know there's always people who say that the worst homophobes are really gay men in denial! Cheers, Neil

---- LOGIC Two South Texas farmers, Jim and Bob, are sitting at their favorite bar, drinking beer. Jim turns to Bob and says, "You know, I'm tired of going through life without an education. Tomorrow I think I'll go to the community college and sign up for some classes." Bob thinks it's a good idea, and the two leave. The next day Jim goes down to the college and meets the dean of admissions, who signs him up for the four basic classes: math, English, history, and logic. "Logic?" Jim says. "What's that?" The dean says, "I'll show you. Do you own a weed-eater?" "Yeah." "Then logically because you own a weed-eater, I think that you have a yard." "That's true, I do have a yard." "I'm not done," the dean says. "Because you have a yard, I think logically that you would have a house." "Yes, I do have a house." "And because you have a house, I think that you might logically have a family." "I have a family." "I'm not done yet. Because you have a family, then logically you must have a wife." "Yes, I do have a wife." "And because you have a wife, then logically you must be a heterosexual." "I am a heterosexual. That's amazing!.. you were able to find out all of that because I have a weed-eater." Excited to take the class now, Jim shakes the dean's hand and leaves to meet Bob at the bar. He tells Bob about his classes, how he is signed up for math, English, history and logic. "Logic?" Bob says, "What's that?" Jim says, "I'll show you. Do you have a weed-eater?" "No." "Then you're gay." --- Perhaps we should have a survey on weed-eater ownership? Cheers, Neil

I quite enjoy some of the programmes on BBC 1 in the mornings, although they are without exception all either about houses or money or both! To Buy or Not To Buy is my favourite I think And I do quite enjoy Diagnosis Murder with Dick Van Dyke that's on in the afternoons now Cheers, Neil

Hehe Chris you'll be glad to know he's only said good things about you to me You should get your own account on here so we can hear both sides! And Dave you should let him on here more often so he doesn't have to sneak on when you're not looking! Cheers, Neil

Woo! Great chapter again Dom. I'm very glad to see Quinn's finally getting a grip on himself, slowly but surely, and realising that being gay isn't the end of his world like he thought it was. I suspect most of us have been through that 'phase' - fortunately mine didn't last as long as Quinn's, and I didn't become neurotic over it And Jude has endeared himself to me more after hearing about his family, although I still find Quinn more attractive. Aw heck, who am I kidding, if they were real I wouldn't say no to either of them - in fact I'd say HELL YES! Looking forward to chapter 17 already! Hope the wait's not too long - I like this current speed of posting! Cheers, Neil

(I'm even more I'm afraid) Damn, Snow Dog, you've put that song from the South Park Movie in my head now! DISCLAIMER: I don't actually blame Canada for anything. I'm just quoting the song Cheers, Neil -

Great chapter again Conner - but just one minor editing criticism: Shouldn't it be lay instead of lied in both cases? Looking forward to the next chapter! Cheers, Neil

[DomLuka] What does Jude see in Quinn?
fatboyfat replied to Masked Monkey's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
I've been thinking about this question, and it made me think what do I see in Quinn. Personally, as much as you can be attracted to some one through reading a fictional story , I am more attracted to Quinn than to Jude. I know that lots of you (judging by past comments) are more attracted to Jude, but I don't see it that way. I think part of the reason for my attraction to Quinn could come from knowing him in much more detail than Jude, due to the story being told from Quinn's viewpoint with Quinn's feelings and thoughts. But at the same time, he is quite clearly (to me at least) a good person at heart, who can be kind and thoughtful, although he is often misguided and misled by his struggle with his sexuality. I think that Jude can see this same quality about Quinn, and that has led to his mental and emotional attraction to Quinn, beyond the purely physical attraction. At the same time, I think that a lot of attraction cannot be explained away, meaning there's no one, single, complete answer to the question! I know I find it hard to explain exactly why I find someone attractive. I just do. Cheers, Neil -
[DomLuka] TOU ch. 15
fatboyfat replied to JoleChristopher's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
Warning: very . Sorry I'm just glad I live in a country that has already legalised same-sex unions (OK it doesn't come into effect until December but the legislation has been passed). The thing that absolutely amazes me is that most (straight) people I have talked to had no idea this legislation had passed! I feel really sorry for all you Americans, especially with a president who is not only as thick as two short planks but is against same-sex unions as well! -

I think I'd better wear a condom to be on the safe side. Hugs, Conner P.S. I hate to think what might be downstream of my connection. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes you can catch some nasty viruses on the 'net. Probably a good precaution to practice 'safer surfing'. And watch out for them pesky spywares too. :2hands: As for downstream of your connection, it's probably nothing. Unless you're a NAT and then you might have a large number of clients that you service regularly. Cheers, Neil

Brilliant chapter... but what a cliffhanger! Dom, you need to apologise to the soft furnishings in my room that took a beating when I realised I couldn't scroll down any more and you had left poor Quinn in such a state! Ah well, I did eventually calm down enough to function normally - so now I'll just have to wait for Chapter 15. Please, please, please make it soon! Cheers, Neil

Well I got my copy of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince today and it's sitting unopened so far. Instead I've been re-reading TOU in preparation for Chapter 14. I'd forgotten how good the story is so far! Silly really as all Dom's works are great Now I'm looking like this until chapter 14 appears! I was going to say I'm looking like this but I think that dude just looks constipated. Cheers, Neil

Apparently the correct spelling is actually diphthong, and the word comes from Middle English, and old French among others. From dictionary.reference.com: -

To be fair to them, a couple of the words you have indicated here would be pronounced quite differently without the 'u'. Like flour to flor would be quite obviously ridiculous! OK so now I've confused myself by (almost) defending the American standpoint. Cheers, Neil -

It always strikes me that America is what you'd get if you put some bureaucrats and gun toters together in a large box for a few hundred years, whereas Britain is what you get if you put some inbred aristocrats and fresh servant genes together in a large box for a few hundred years. Perhaps that's just me and my madness. Of course this statement doesn't portray Britain in the best light so perhaps I shouldn't be uttering it here. Damn, now I know why I normally lose arguments. Cheers, Neil
