Memories - 1. Chapter 1
Memories
Of things that happened,
Good or bad
Or something in between...
I cherish them all.
Like the stories I heard when I was still little,
Which I never seem to forget
No matter how long ago it has been.
Memories,
Like that song a once famous cat sings,
Although usually cats can't
Just as surely as they can't talk
Wield swords
Or change into human form.
Or is it the other way around?
But those are different stories altogether.
So many things that happened in the past,
Things that sometimes I wish I can forget
Or relive.
There are memories I've shared to just a few
Because they are too precious
To be told more than twice,
A secret of sorts.
Although they're not.
First crush, first kiss, first love,
They are forever embedded in my mind.
They are easy.
Happy memories usually are.
But there are those which fill you with dread
Like the first time I heard my beloved cry
As we lay side by side in bed
With the lights off.
If I can go back in time,
I will not go back to right my mistakes
Because life would be meaningless
Without bad memories to remind me
That I'm not perfect.
Instead, I'll go back to my favorite moment
That was when I first met my love
My happiest moment.
Sometimes I get sad
For forgotten memories
Because they cannot be enjoyed
By those who need them the most.
Do memories remain?
Or do they simply cease to exist?
Condemned to a fate worse than death,
To be forgotten.
Like a jigsaw puzzle
Memories are the pieces
That make up my life.
Sometimes they don't seem to fit,
But if I step back
And look at the big picture
That which seemed wrong
Was right all along.
Memories...
I want to fill my life with so many of them
So that when I'm grey and old
I can look back
And remember
And everything will be fine
Because I will know that I lived a full life
And I will have memories to share with the one I love.
In the end
I'll just be a memory,
A little grain of sand
In the vastness of the universe.
But I hope
That somehow I'll be remembered
As a person who loved and was loved in return
And as a person who remembered.
